The Michigan State Miracle!!
MSU went with the Hail Mary play called Rocket to pull out a miracle. Maybe the best ending for an MSU game ever. Right up there with the last second win over Michigan (thanks Spartan Bob) back in 2001. And if you can't get enough of the play here it is Rocket Man
Johnny E called the next day to congratulate the Doofus. He's looking forward to a rematch in Indy in the inaugural Big Ten Championship game. Same here. Get by the Huskers this week and our ticket is all but punched.
The Big Book of Guesses had an OK week going 39-35-1 including a great 10-2 on the over/unders (of course the only two I missed were the ones on the parlay - that's what kind of week it was) But apparently I used up all my luck on the Rocket play as the Mega Bets went 1-4 as:
Week 8 Mega Bets Recap:
West Virginia -14.0 @ Syracuse: The last time I was in the Carrier Dome - A pathetic Syracuse squad upset a 12 point favorite Louisville team. Should have known better than to bet against the Orange on a Friday night in the dome. Syracuse's defense put constant pressure on WVU's QB Geno Smith and the Orange running game pounded away. WVU tried to make a game of it getting a TD midway through the 2nd quarter. But Syracuse took the kick off return to the house and the rout was on. Final score Big Orange 49 Moonshiners 23 LOSS
Arkansas -15.5 @ Mississippi - Tough to cover 15.5 when you get down 17 points. With Arkansas sleep walking - Ole Miss got out ahead 17-0 with 6 minutes left in the first half. Arkansas then awoke scoring 29 straight points. Looking like I might get my cover after all - Ole Miss went on a 5 minute drive to close the score to 29-24 with 1:23 left to seal the cover. To rub it in - Ole Miss recovered the onside kick but threw a game killing pick with 0:32 left. With the loss, the Rebs set a new record for SEC futility by losing 10 straight conference games. Final Hawgs 29 Lil Miss 24 LOSS

The Doofus got smoked last week!
Washington State -3.0 vs Oregon State - And then the bottom fell out for the day's Mega Bets. Oregon State is rebounding at just the wrong time for the Doofus. The Beav's offense was unstoppable rumbling for 551 yards. How bad was the Wazzou defense? OSU didn't punt until there was 90 seconds left in the game. Final OSU 44 Bougers 21 LOSS
Green Bay -8.5 @ Minnesota - Green Bay struggled a bit early but by the end of the 3rd quarter were comfortably ahead of the spread leading 33-17. Still ahead after the Vikes opened the final stanza with a FG but Minny got the back door cover with a TD with 7:49 left. crap! Final score Green Bay 33 Bronson Vikings 27 LOSS
New Orleans -14.0 vs Indianapolis - Now that's the way you get a cover. New Orleans jumped out to a 21-0 first quarter lead and just kept going. By the times they were done the Saints had tied for the most points scored since the AFL NFL merger. Total blow out! It also saved the Mega Bets from a total washout for the weekend. Final New Orleans 62 Geldings 7 WIN
The Big Flippy got its first winning week in awhile going 3-2
West Virginia -14.0 @ Syracuse - Loss
OSU +3.0 vs Washington State - Win
Arkansas - 15.5 @ Mississippi - Loss
Minnesota +8.5 vs Green Bay - Win
New Orleans -14.0 vs Indianapolis - Win
The Sax Man also had a winning week going 2-1 as:
Michigan State +7.5 vs Wisconsin - Still grinning over this one - Final Sparty 37 Bucky 30 NY Jets +1.0 vs San Diego - Final Jets 27 Dolts 21 WIN
Green Bay -9.0 @ Minnesota LOSS
The Big Guy is terribly upset with his picks as he actually lost one this week as:
Penn State -4.0 @Northwestern - Final PSU 34 Mildcats 24 WIN
Michigan State +7.5 vs Wisconsin - And still grinning WIN
Georgia Tech +3.0 @ The Hurricane - Final Miami (FL) 24 Bumbling Bees 7 LOSS.
I got to pick the brain of the Big Guy on our 9 hour trip to Baton Rouge. Sound strategy - but he won't let me use it as I would jinx him. Who am I to argue? The only loss on my point whore parlay was the LSU Auburn game we attended. The only game he lost was the one we were listening to as we were driving - the GT @ Miami (FL) game. So without the benefit of the Big Guy's picks - here are the
Week 9 Mega Bets:
Arkansas -10.0 @ Vanderbilt - Yea, I know. I lost a Mega Bet on Arkansas last week. But I'll treat it as an aberration by the Hogs. Vandy's defense is better than Ole Miss but it won't matter. Arkansas will be focused from the start and put away the 'Dores. Arkansas almost pulled off the cover last week. This week they get it done.
Baltimore -14.0 vs Arizona - The last time Baltimore was in a bounce back situation they blew out the Rams 37-7. Different opponent but same results. Arizona is better than the Rams but not by much. The Ravens will be fired up after the embarrassment on national TV. Add to that is the Malone Time Zone Angle - Arizona is coming east to play an early game. By the time they wake up it will be all over.
New Orleans -14.0 @ St Louis - I love betting against the Rams. They stink whether are home or away. They stink during the bye week. Hell, Bye would lay points against the Rams. New Orleans doesn't mind running up the score. Check out the fire bombing they laid on Indy last week. Dresden looked better afterwards.
New York G Men -10.5 vs Miami - Miami is just awful. They couldn't beat Tim Tebow even though they were up by 15 with 2:44 left. That's bad. If the Rams were playing the 'Fins - the NFL would cancel the game rather than expose young children to football pornography. New York gets Justin Tuck back to shore up the run defense shutting down Miami's only hope to keep it close.
The Mini Megas this week are: Last week's Mini Megas saved a total washout for week 8 by going 3-2. Let's hope they can be in the winning column again.
Michigan State +4.0 @ Nebraska - The only reason this isn't a full Mega is the jinx factor. That and the Big Guy called dibs on the game. MSU is better than the Huskers. They weren't intimidated in the Horsehoe and Lincoln won't phase them. On to Indy!
Clemson -3.5 @ Georgia Tech - Couldn't go with a full Mega Bet here as I will be at the game and the jinx factor would be in full play. Add to that my fellow tailgaters would likely do unseemly things to my food. Clemson is rolling. Tech is reeling. The Bees defense has gone south. The offense did too last week. GT will get the offense going but not enough to keep pace with Clemson
Syracuse + 3.5 @ Louisville - Louisville plays great defense but it's offense plays just good enough to lose. Syracuse is getting it's mojo back from last year. I'll take the points in a close game.
UL Lafayette +3.0 @ Middle Tennessee St - One of these weeks ULL will get me a win. They are still up there with Arkansas State as the best of the Sun belt. MTSU is more middle of the pack. The Ragin Cajuns ran into a buzz saw last week as Western Kentucky was trying to erase an 18 home game losing streak. One loss in the Sun belt and now ULL is getting points? I'll take the gift.
Boston College @ Maryland Under 52.0 - The highest scoring game Boston College has played this year (excepting 1AA UMass) was 50 and that had Clemson. Maryland is no Clemson. The Eagles play good defense but horrible offense. Maryland is sporadic. Both are recipes for a good under
For the Over/Under Parlay I'll go with:
Clemson @ Georgia Tech - under 63.5
Texas @ Kansas - under 64.0
South Carolina @ Tennessee - under 43.5
And the Week 9 Point Whore Parlay is:
Kansas +28.5 @ Texas
NC State +19.5 @ Florida State
Washington State +35.0 @ Oregon
The Sheriff of Malibu pouted all last week after the Cal loss - and refused to come out of his room to make a pick. He's calmed down now and is going with:
Houston (-27) over Rice: Houston will run the table and finish 12-0. Case Keenum will get an invitation to NYC for the Heisman Trophy Presentation (not that he will win, of course) in December. If Boise St loses a game, Houston will get a BCS bowl bid.
Georgia Tech (+4) over Clemson: I know GT has lost its last two games on the road, but they are a different team at home and Paul Johnson will have them ready to play. The expectations and pressure of being undefeated will cause Clemson to play tight. Tech wins this game outright.
The Big Flippy hopes to continue its win streak with:
Vanderbilt +10.0 vs Arkansas
Arizona +14.0 @ Baltimore
New Orleans -14.0 @ St Louis
New York Giants -10.5 vs Miami
The Sax Man has a bit of a win streak going too and likes:
West Freakin' Viriginia -7.0 @ Rutgers - WVU is gonna be looking to make up for their loss at Syracuse last week.
Detroit -2.5 @ The Fightin' Timmy Tebows - Two weeks ago this pick would have been a no-brainer. Still, I think the Lions will cover.
Dallas +3.5 @ Philadelphia - No one seems to want to win the NFC east this year. I like the Dallas run game against the Eagle's D.
Of course - the above is just so much noise. Everyone is wants to know what the Big Guy's picks are:
Michigan State +4.0 @ Nebraska
Georgia +3.0 @ Florida (Neutral Party Field)
Oklahoma -13.5 @ Kansas State
And as always - here is the Week 9 Bettors Guide
Green Bay -8.5 @ Minnesota - Green Bay struggled a bit early but by the end of the 3rd quarter were comfortably ahead of the spread leading 33-17.
