Follow the Doofus as he picks every NFL and College game against the spread
Welcome to the Big Book of Guesses!
A site where I pick all the NCAA Div 1A (no FBS, FCS bs for me) and NFL games against the spread.
HISTORY OF THE BIG BOOK OF GUESSES - Several years ago, while hoisting adult beverages on my boat, my buddies and I (aka the Drunken Bums) were discussing what to do in place of our annual canoe trip. We were getting tired of spending our yearly get togethers getting wet and sleeping three sheets to the wind in the dirt. I mentioned that I had always wanted to go to Vegas and just watch and bet on football all weekend. Big smiles came across all our faces - toasts were given - and with that the Annual GO JUMBO weekend was born (see the Glossary for a definition of various terms that have sprung up over the years).
Having watched lots of football but never really having bet on the games, I decided to practice by picking games against the spread and see how I did. Pretty soon I was picking all the games and keeping track of the results. One year, I brought my spreadsheet of all my picks plus articles and analyses on all the teams - all neatly organized in a large 3 ring binder. As I proudly showed off my handwork, my buddies laughed and dismissed it was nothing more than a Big Book of Guesses.
Well, the Big Book of Guesses track record wasn't too bad - winning enough to cover the house's spiff and make a small profit but in analyzing my results I found out that a few large bets determined the outcome for the trip more than the overall record. It's how you bet 'em more then how you pick 'em! So I decided to practice my betting by sending 3-5 MEGA BETS via email - along with other sometimes humorous commentary on all things football - to the gang every week. Losing a few quatloos in Vegas is nothing compared to the scorn and ridicule from friends over some bad picks.
Now you too can follow the Doofus as he makes his picks every week and use the Big Book of Guesses database to help with your own.
Under the tabs "Latest" and "Previous Mega Bets" you can see my write ups on my big picks for since 2010, the results and other football related topics.
Under the tab "The Database" is a spreadsheet showing every Div 1A and NFL game since 2005, the spread and results against the spread. There is also a pivot table to pull out the data as you please.
Under the tab "2021 Bettors Guide" is another spreadsheet showing every matchup for 2021, time and broadcast network for every game, the results of the teams against each other (against the spread naturally) since 2005, up to date Sagarin ratings for every team and the score from last year (revenge games are great betting set ups).
