A real face plant by the Doofus last week
Ooof - that was ugly. The Big Book of Guesses went 30-42-1.
The Mega Bets were just as bad going 1-3 as:
Week 6 Recap:
Western Michigan -10.5 vs Bowling Green - Western continues to perform for the Doofus! The Broncos rolled for 278 yards in B slapping the Falcons. BGSU tied it at 14 all midway though the second quarter. But it was all Brown and Gold after that. The Broncos reeled off 31 straight points in the beat down winning 45-24. WIN
Arizona -2.0 @ Oregon State - A tough loss. ASU spotted OSU a 27-6 lead but climbed back to trail 30-27. But, with 5 minutes left the Beav put the final dagger in the heart of the Bum Devils with a TD - to go up 37-27. With their backs to the wall at home - OSU fought hard to win. A lesson I was to learn again on Sunday. To top it off, Arizona fired HC Mike Stoops this week. Apparently, the Wildcat brain trust respects a good Mega Bet and was furious for Stoops not coming through for the Doofus. You other head coaches better be listening! LOSS
Texas A&M -8.5 @ Texas Tech - This game was typical for the week for the Doofus. A&M was trading TD's for TTU FGs and built a 15 point lead early in the 4th quarter. WIth 2:55 left and the score now 45-33 (TT got a FG that bounced off the upright and went through - ugh), A&M punted to the TTU 9 yd line. Playing against a soft defense, the Red Panty Raiders drove 91 yds for a TD to get the cover 45-40 with 31 seconds left. Good thing the Doofus was alone in the Man Cave - the profanities were curling the hair on the dog. In fact, I'm still pissing and moaning about that one. Crap! LOSS

Tennessee +3.5 @ Pittsburgh - Never bet against good teams with their backs to the wall at home. Pittsburgh played with passion and scored TDs their first three drives to pummel the Bite-ems. Just to rub it in, with the game already in the bag and leading 31-17 with 2:39 left, Pittsburgh throws a 40 TD bomb toembarrass Tenn 38-17. Repeat - never beat against a good team with their back to the walls at home LOSS lesson re-learned the hard way
The picking wasn't entirely bad - the Big Book of Guesses was pretty good on Sunday going 8-5 on the NFL games (plus 2-0 on overs).
The college games were just pathetic though. Good thing I wasn't in Vegas. I would have probably packed my bags and gone home after Saturday.
The Big Flippy was perfectly awful going 0-4. For whatever reason the Big Flippy has been choosing pretty closely with the Big Book of Guesses. Over the last 2 weeks it has gone the same as the Doofus on 5 of 7 picks. Not a good strategy this week (or ever for that matter). The only pick it made different was the only one the Doofus got right (i.e The BF picked BGSU to cover against Western)
The Sax Man was also terrible going 0-3 as:
Air Force +14 over Notre Dame - Final ND 59 Flailing Falcons 35 LOSS
Tennessee (+1.5) over U(sic)GA - Final UGA 20 Day Glo Orange 12 LOSS
Tampa Bay (+1.5) over San Francisco - Final SF 48 Former Day Glo Orange 3 LOSS - the new worst pick of the year.
But at the other end of the spectrum the Unknown Picker was fantastic again going 3-0
Penn State -3.5 vs Ohio State - Final PSU 13 Buc Nuts 3 WIN
TCU -3.5 @ San Diego State - Final TCU 27 Spaztecs 14 WIN
Georgia -1.5 @ Tennessee - UGA 20 Still Day Glo Orange 12 WIN
The Unknown Picker adopted the nom de plume of Big Guy. With those picks - its deserved! The Big Guy has yet to get a pick wrong - going 7-0 so far this year. Forget all the research and analysis - I'm just going to wait for the Big Guys picks and take those as my own.
Then again - his streak has to stop sometime
We'll see - as for the Week 7 Mega Bets I'll go with:
Week 7 Mega Bets:
Alabama -25.0 @ Mississippi: This week I'm going to take a few more really good teams to cover larger spreads. Probably the best team in College football takes on one of the worst in the SEC when the Tide rolls into Oxford MS. The Rebs offense has been stuck in red clay all year - ranking 114th overall. Bama's defense has been phenomenal coming in at number 3 and allowing 39 yds per game rushing. The Rebs may not even score a point in this game. Meanwhile, the Tide's lowest scoring output for the season was 27 points against a very good Penn State defense. Bama will be methodical and have the cover early in the third quarter.
Clemson -8.0 @ Maryland - I watched Maryland last week, They are not good at all. They rallied and got the cover against Georgia Tech last week after their starting LG went down with a horrendous leg injury. ESPNU refused to replay the injury it was that gruesome - think Joe Theisman. The Terps were trailing 21-3 before the injury. Shortly thereafter the got a 77 yd TD from back up QB CJ Brown (the starter had been benched for suckiness unbecoming). Not sure why GT went into stall mode in the second half but Clemson won't. The Purple and Orange are 18th in offense and averaging 35 points per game. There was a bit of hesitancy on this pick after Tiger QB Tajh Boyd was helped off the field last week with a hip injury. Reports are that he is practicing and will start for the game.
Western Michigan -1.0 @ Northern Illinois - Sticking with a good thing here. The other Broncos won a Mini-Mega and a full Mega over the last two weeks. To beat Western you have to have a pass rush. NIU doesn't. Western QB Alex Carder was efficient with his passing game last week in controlling the clock for 35 minutes and passing for 212 yds and 3 TDs. With time to throw against NIU he should match those numbers. Western will revenge last year's loss to the Huskies as they march to the MAC title game.
Green Bay -15.0 vs St Louis - The best team in the NFL takes on the worst team at home - and they are only laying 15? This is going to be a romp. Unless the Meat Packers coast - they should win this going away. I don't think they will coast when everyone will be licking their chops to do a Lambeau Leap. St Louis is getting ready to tank the season. They tanking will get a good push this week.
Just missing the cut this week and going with Mini-Megas are:
Wisconsin -40.0 @ Indiana - The Badgers can name their point total against the Loosiers. Nothing is going right in Bloomington and now the Badgers arrive in town. Last year Wisconsin put 83 buckies up on the scoreboard. This year's offense is even better and may try to outdo last years squad. HC Bret Bielema is going for style points scoring 49, 59 and 48 points the last three weeks on teams better than IU.
Boise State -32.0 @ Colorado State - Boise is a machine - just plain steam rolling everything in their path. Last week they jam piled Fresno State 57-7. Next up is a hapless Colorado State squad coming off a bye. Prior to the bye the Rams lost to a sad team from San Jose State. Boise State is in their usual mode of trying to impress the BCS and will pile on the points against the Lambs
Utah State -3.0 @ Fresno State - Fresno State used to be the Boise State of years gone by. Now they are a pale imitation of themselves losing to the real Boise State 57-7 last week - at home no less. This week they host a surprisingly good Utah State Aggies squad. I watched Utah State beat Auburn thoroughly for 58 minutes. The Aggies can play on the road. And they are coming off a 63-19 total dismemberment of Wyoming. You shouldn't play teams based on the last weeks performance but I will here and lay the three.
Oklahoma -36.0 @ Kansas - Another great team meeting a terrible one and laying big points. Oklahoma may have a let down after a huge WWF type smack down of Texas. But Kansas won't let them. They JayBalks let up 66 points to Georgia Tech. Oklahoma can match that if they want. I say they go for style points too and roll Kansas.
Hawaii -6.0 @ San Jose State - I said I wouldn't take the Rainbow Warriors on the mainland again but this is just too tempting. San Jose State is improved but not enough to hold off a Hawaii team that is rolling on offense. SJSU will be pumped up for a national TV audience and will stay close for awhile. Hawaii is coming off a bye and got their bone head week out of the way. The Warriors will roll late.
The Big Flippy is going with:
Mississippi +25 vs Bama
Clemson -8.0 @ Maryland
Western Michigan -1.0 @ Northern Illinois
Green Bay -15.0 @ St Louis
3 out of 4 the same - still hanging tight with the BBofG - hope it works out better this week
The Sax Man has weighed in with
Georgia Tech -7.0 @ UVA: Georgia Tech has not played up to their potential the past two weeks. This week Paul Johnson lights a fire and Tech finally wins by a bunch.
Wake +7 vs Virginia Tech: I really like this match-up for one of the hottest teams no one is talking about. Wake has a strong defense against the running game (102 ypg) and will stack the line against a terrible passing offense. Wake may not win this one, but VT won't win by more than 7 on the road.
Chicago -2.5 vs Minnesota: The Vikings finally got their first win of the season last week, a trouncing of a terrible Arizona team. Chicago, meanwhile, is coming off a national embarrassment at the hands of the Detroit Lions. Da Bears are gonna come out hungry and run up the score on the worst team in a surprisingly very good NFC North.
A picker from the Left coast that will need to adopt a moniker is going with:
My pick of the week is Cal (+3) over USC. Cal has two excellent receivers (Keenan Allen and Marvin Jones) and if our young QB (Zach Maynard) can just calm down and make the throws he made during the first month of the season (he just got rattled last week against Oregon), we should be able to score a lot of points against a very suspect Trojan defense. I look for a high scoring game tonight with Cal winning 41-38 and the Golden Bear faithful storming the field at AT&T Park. Keep in mind that I hate USC with the intensity of 1000 suns so I might not be totally dispassionate in my analysis. Going with your heart is a dangerous strategy - I hope it works out
Finally the undefeated Big Guy is going with:
Michigan State -2.5 vs Michigan
The Ohio State +3.5 @ Fighting Illini
USC -3.0 @ Cal
Our newest picker is going against the unblemished Big Guy - this will get interesting
For the Over Under Parlay I'll go with
San Diego State / Air Force over 59.0
Purdue / Penn State under 41.0
LSU / Tennessee under 43.5
And for the Point Whore Parlay I'll take:
Eastern Michigan +13.0 @ Central Michigan
Iowa State +15 @ Missouri
Buffalo +20.5 @ Temple
And of course - here is the Week 7 Handy Dandy Bettors Guide
