The Doofus takes full responsibility for the lousy bets
“They got a name for the winners in the world
 I want a name when I lose
They call Alabama the Crimson Tide
Call me Deacon Blues”
                  Steely  Dan

When Winston Churchill had his bouts of depression he called them his Black Dog days. I had a Deacon Blue weekend.

Take that Week 4!!
The Big Book of Guesses was just miserable this weekend. Overall it went 28-38 (23-34 on college and an unusual 5-4 winning record on the pros). As bad as that was – the Doofus was worse as it returned a mere 1,174 quatloos on 1,730 wagered.  Oof!

These types of weekends occur every once in a while. Hopefully I got mine out of the way before VEGAS BABY Weekend.

The Mega Bets went 1-2 as:
North Carolina -2.0 @ Rutgers - The BBofG actually started out the weekend not too bad as it went 15-13 in the Noon and 3:30 games. In a 3:30 game - North Carolina got a TD late in the third quarter to finally take the lead on Rutgers 14-10. The teams then traded field goals. With 2:34 left Rutgers had the ball at the Heels 34 yd line but went 4 and out as the Heels held on to win 17-13 -  barely covering the 2.0 spread. The shaky win was an ominous sign. WIN

Oklahoma -13.5 @ Cincinnati - Starting at 6:00 - Oklahoma was cruising past Cincy and led 24-15 early in the 4th
quarter - when OK threw a pick at the Cincy 36 yd line. Cincy went on to outscore the Sooners 14-7. The Bearcats ultimately fell 31-29 but easily covered the 13.5 point spread. LOSS

The rout was on. For the rest of Saturday the BBofG went 8-21. Ouch!

Green Bay -3.0 @ Chicago - Hoping to recover most of my phantom losses on Monday night and in the plus column for the day on Sunday - I was getting excited as Green Bay jumped to an early 10-0 lead on Da Bears. But then things went south as Chicago scored a TD with 26 seconds left in the half. From then on it just went down hill. Green Bay went on to commit a franchise record number of penalties including a holding call which overturned a TD. Devin Hester scored his first punt return for a TD in 2 years for Chicago. And with 3:59 left in the game with the
score tied at 17-17, GB completed a pass to the 50 -  the receiver then fumbled the ball which hugged the sideline and stayed in as Chi recovered. Chicago milked the clock, drove the the GB 4 yd line and kicked the winning
field goal with :04 left. Pathetic. LOSS

Meanwhile, continuing last week’s trend and in line with the overall weekend results the Point Whore Parlay went 0-3 as:
Kansas jumped to a 35-7 lead by the end of the 3rd quarter and held on to win 42-16 to cover the 23 point spread over New Mexico St. LOSS
Missouri returned a fumble for a TD on Miami (OH)'s first play and roared to a 44-0 lead. Mizzou destroyed Miami (OH) 51-13 to cover the 17.5 spread. LOSS
Florida finally found its offense. RB Trey Burton set a Gator scoring record going off for 6 TDs (on only 3 receptions, 5 runs and 1 pass) as Fla mauled Kentucky 48-14 LOSS

Picture
I think Pete's been using a laser hat for his picks
The PTZA went 1-1 as Stanford crushed ND 37-14 in South Bend and covered the 4.5 point spread LOSS
While Mississippi beat down visiting Fresno State 55-38 easily covering the 2.5 point spread WIN

The Big Flippy snuck out for some play time and went 2-1 by taking Oklahoma WIN; Cincinnati WIN and Green Bay LOSS.

Meanwhile, Pete, after a slow start in the Spartan Mag pool has gotten red hot going 31-18-2 against the spread over the last two weeks. He is currently in 4th place out of 50. Too bad the Executive Committee could not change Pete's mind about coming to Vegas.

For this week’s Mega Bets I will take:
Northwestern - 5.5 @ Minnesota. Tim Brewster's train wreck at the Gopher Hole will continue. Minny has the 113th
worst defense against the pass with NW coming into town with the 3rd best passing offense efficiency. Cats Roll

NC State +4 vs Va Tech
. NC St QB Russell Wilson is the real deal. He leads the ACC in offense with 11 TDs to 1 interception. Meanwhile the Pack defense is solid. I like taking the home dog in this one.

For the Pro game I will take Atlanta -6.5 vs San Francisco. Atlanta is a hot team having just beat the defending Super Bowl champs in their crib. Meanwhile SF is in disarray having fired their OC. Add the fact its a
West Coast team coming to EST for a 1:00 game and you get an easy cover.

For the Point Whore Parlay I'll take:
Fla ATL +21 @ South Florida
Navy +10 @ Air Force
East Carolina + 13 @ North Carolina

Picture
VEGAS BABY is near!!!!
The PTZA has 4 games on the docket:
Colorado +4.5 vs Georgia
Toledo -3.5 vs Wyoming
Western Michigan - +3 vs Idaho
Air Force -10 vs Navy

Two weeks to Vegas Baby
GO JUMBO!!!!
