A Slow start for the MEGA BETS
The Big Book of Guesses 2.0 had an OK week. Especially in light of it being week 5-6 before you can really get a bead on teams. The MEGA BETS came out of the gates slowly this year going 1-2 as:
Minnesota -3 @ Middle Tenn St - The week started out nicely when Minnesota, as expected, struggled against an MTSU team without its QB and best player. Minnesota scored 10 unanswered points in the 4th quarter to pull out a 24-17 win and covered the 3 points. WIN

UConn +3 @ Michigan - Then the BBofG made its worst pick of the week as Michigan manhandled UConn winning
30-10 easily covering the 3 point spread. With Nick grinning from ear to ear, our least favorite team played the best it has ever played under DRod. Not sure what Randy Edsall was thinking when his offense played out in the shotgun but it played right into Michigan's hands. Hopefully Edsall has called off his real estate agent in Jacksonville. That was the worst I have ever seen UConn play. LOSS
Northwestern -5.5 @ Vanderbilt - With the difference between a winning and losing record for the MEGA BETS on the line - Northwestern started out great jumping to a 10-0 lead. But Vandy hung around and stymied the Wildcat's offense. NW got a touchdown with 4:39 left to grab a 17-9. And just as I was about to grab a victory cigar Vandy scores a TD with 2:25 left and got a back door cover. Crap LOSS
Overall, the BBofG went 20-17-2. Betting a phantom 1,270 quatloos returned 1,095 after the spiff but not including -
A win on the Point whore parlay!
Purdue's QB Marve - a transfer from Miami (FL) ran for a 23 yd TD on 4th in 1 early in the 4th quarter to bring the Boilers within 8, 20-12. But his Spielman-esque leap into the endzone was called for an unsportsman like penalty and Purdue struggled for field position throughout the rest of the game. An ND FG with 4:30 left gave the Irish an 11 point lead equaling the spread (obviously I must have played a ties win parlay card).
Then came the BBofG 2.0's best pick of the week. An underrated Utah State team spotted OK 21 points midway through the second quarter but then scored 17 straight points. The Aggies kept hanging around and scored a late TD before losing 31-24 easily covering the 34 point spread.
The finale was one of the more exciting games of the week on Sunday night. Texas Tech was cruising and got up 28-7 early in the 3rd quarter when SMU finally got the Run and Shoot going. TT and SMU traded TD's and TT led 35-14 late in the 3rd. SMU then rolled off 13 unanswered points to get within 8. SMU had one last chance to go into OT when they got the ball for the final time with 4:52 left but were stopped at the 50 yd line as TT won 35-27. No
matter - SMU covered the 14 point spread and cashing in the card.
This weeks Mega Bets are:
GT -14 @ Kansas. It takes teams two weeks to prepare for the Ramblin Wreck Triple Option Kansas doesn't have that luxury as they were too busy losing to Div 1AA North Dakota St 6-3. GT took care of their cupcake Jax State 41-10. The Jackets will roll.
Oklahoma St -13 vs Troy. Oklahoma St destroyed a lousy Wash St team 65-17 while Troy needed a last second field goal to beat Bowling Green 30-27. Cowboys win their second of the season big.
For the first week of the NFL season I'll go with GB -3 @ Phildelphia. Philly starts the Kevin Kolb era going against a tough GB defense. GB has the best road record ATS over the last 5 years. Aaron Rodgers has Packertown forgetting the annual retirement escapades of Farve while Philly will be pining for McNabb.
For the Point Whore Parlay I'll take-
Virginia +20 at USC (going against the PTMZA)
Kent State +17 at BC
Bowling Green +16.5 @ Tulsa
Last week’s Pat Time Zone Angle went 3-2 as
Toledo getting 16 lost to Arizona 41-2 - Loss
UNLV getting 20.5 lost to Wisconsin 41-21 - Win (by a whisker)
Alabama giving 37.5 beat San Jose St 48-3 - Win
Fresno St giving 2.5 beat Cinn 28-14 - Win
Va Tech getting 2.5 lost to Boise State 33-30 - Loss (by a whisker and great game too)
This weeks PTZA has another 5 on tap as
Wisconsin (again) giving 37.5 to the other Spartans of San Jose St
Army giving 3 to Hawaii
Southern Cal giving 20 to Virginia
Washington giving 13.5 to Syracuse
Tenn gets 12 from Oregon
