Any one need a light for their cigar?
The Doofus Deck (Mike nominated the Doofus Den – I like it and tweaked it just a little) was overflowing with football fans on Monday as we partied through chilly windy conditions and tons of exciting football. We had so many partiers I was afraid Fire Marshall Bill was going to show up.
The Big Ten took it in the shorts again going 1-3 on the day. But the Spartans carried the day with a great defense and timely special teams. I have never seen an over time where 1. The team that through a pick on the first possession still won 2. A team missed two field goals and 3. had a triple OT with no TDs. The deck was rocking all through the game!!
Penn State started out the day by getting blown out by the Houston Cougars 30-14 followed by South Carolina giving a wedgie to Nebraska by an eerily similar score of 30-13. Wisconsin capped off the Big Ten beat down losing to Oregon 45-38. Unlike last year – I went against the Big Ten on New Years and was rewarded by ending up in 4th place in a 200 person pool by the end of the day. The success was short lived when Michigan paid off the refs and jobbed Va Tech on Tuesday dropping me to 9th and no chance to get in the money. F#%k the Blue.
Overall the Mega Bet win streak continued in week 18 as

Week 18 Mega Bet recap:Houston +2.0 vs Tennessee – Houston QB TJ Yates went down with a separated shoulder in his first series. Next up - Nixon era Jake Delhomme. A see saw battle ensued. With 1:49 left in the game and trailing 23-15, Houston recovered a fumble at the Titan 36 yd line. 6 plays later the Texans were in the end zone. But, rather than go for the tying extra point, Houston elected to go for two- EXCELLENT!! -either way I win. If its good I get the win and if they don’t the still get the cover. Usually I’m on the other side of this situation. Houston failed but I got the cover. Final Tennessee 23 Texans 22 WinPittsburgh -7.0 @ Cleveland - Pittsburgh continues its domination of the Browns winning their 16th out of the last 17 but not by enough. Steeler RB Rashard Mendenhall went down on the last play of the 1st quarter only to be replaced by Isaac Redman with a fresh case of fumblitis. Leading 13-9 in the fourth quarter Redman put the ball on the carpet on two successive drives killing any chance of getting the cover. Far as I know he dropped the soap three more times in the shower. Final Steelers 13 Brownies 9 Loss
South Carolina -2.5 vs Nebraska - Nebraska jumped out to a 13-9 first quarter lead but it was all Cocks after that as South Carolina scored 21 unanswered. Final USC wannabe 30 Cornshuckers 13 Win
Oregon -6.0 vs Wisconsin – Games can be really exciting when teams don't know how to play defense. The game was the antithesis of the MSU Georgia contest as Oregon and Wisconsin put up a record number of points in the Rose Bowl. In a rollicking back and forth game that had 7 different ties and lead changes - Oregon was up 45-38 as the Badgers drove to the Duck 25 with 2 seconds left. QB Russell Wilson spiked the ball but the clock ran out leaving Bucky shaking their cheeseheads. Final Oregon 45 Bladders 38 Win by the skin of my teeth.
Oklahoma State -3.5 vs Stanford – Got my payback from Vegas in this one. In another barn burner - Stanford missed a game winning chip shot as time expired. In OT Stanford missed yet another FG (their third miss of the game - someone's scholarship is in jeopardy). Okie State then scored a TD only to be overruled and placed at the half yard line. Rather than for for the TD the Cowboys center the ball and go for the FG. crap! The FG is good, Cowboys win and I miss the cover. Go for the TD next time Gundy! damn hook! Final OK State 41 Robber Barons 38 Loss
The post Vegas Mega Bet record is now 15-6 nice This week will be huge with the BCS national championship game and the opening of the NFL playoffs. Plenty of good football left in the season!
Week 19 Mega BetsDenver +8.5 vs Pittsburgh - This line is way too high. Without Mendenhall and a dinged up Roethlesburger, Pittsburgh does not have enough offense to lay 8.5. Add to that LaMarr Woodley is nursing a hammy and S Ryan Clark out with sickle cell conditions - the defense is a shell of its former self. Meanwhile after a couple of sub par outings, fans are bailing off the Tebow bandwagon faster than a van load of illegals at a police check point. And in the things that make you go hmmmmm.... 70% of the money is on Pittsburgh but the line has moved down from 9 to 8.5 and even to 8 in some places. The sharps are taking the Broncos. Bad division winners have a way of winning against favored wild cards (anyone remember Saints Seahawks last year??) I'll take the points in a wild game in Mile High.
Denver vs Pittsburgh Over 33.5 - For the same reasons above I'll take the over. The public is going overboard on the Steelers and their defense and discounting the Broncos at home.
LSU +1.0 vs Alabama - LSU is getting a point in their backyard? People are putting way too much on the old line "its tough to beat a team twice in a season" Well consider this - there have been 6 rematches in the SEC championship game. The winner in the regular season has won 5 rematches (although I'll concede the one rematch winner was Nick Saban at LSU ironically). Meanwhile, since their first matchup LSU has improved on offense while Bama has stagnated. In a matchup of great defenses and conservative offenses - special teams will rule the day. LSU has much better special teams. I'll take the point and toss it aside. LSU will win in the Super Dome.
