OK - I have finally gone off the geek end. You know you are too deep into it when you start coming up with questions that the professional
writers hadn't come up with. In going over the new HCs for next year I saw that Mark Hudspeth was appointed HC for the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns. Mark was passing game coordiantor at Mississippi State and prior to that was HC at Div II North Alabama (where he was replaced by Terry Bowden).
The question that no one seems to know is whether he is related to former Detroit Lions HC Tommy Hudspeth. Tommy was HC at BYU when in a flash of foresight stepped down so his assistant Lavell Edwards could take over. Great move for BYU.

Tommy bounced around in HC circles finally ending up as Director of Scouting for the Lions. When the Lions went 1-3 to start the 1976 campaign they fired HC Rick Forzano and appointed Tommy. Imagine appointing your Director
of Scouting as HC midseason today! That's the Lions for you. The move was supposed to be a short term fix as Billy Ford was trying to get Chuck Knox from the LA Rams. When that failed he re-upped Tommy for a 3 year gig. He
was fired less than a year later going 11-13.
This is week one of trying to get an answer. The writer for Rivals.com didn't know. I am waiting to hear from the SID at ULL and from the beat writer at the local paper Times of Acadia.
Week 21 Results:
Chicago/Green Bay under 43.5 - The under looked in danger early on when Aaron Rodgers led the Pack on an 84 yd opening drive. He went 4 for 4 and scored the TD on a beautiful naked bootleg. But it takes two teams to score to get the over and Jay Cutler and the Bears offense were just plain horrible. Cutler was eventually pulled (supposedly due to injury) midway through the third quarter for Todd Collins who was even worse.
Lost in all the media overhype about Cutler's toughness is whether Todd Collins will play again for the Bears (or any team for that matter). Collins was given a very short leash (i.e. two three and outs) before he was pulled (due to just plain sucking) for the third string Caleb Hanie.

Hanie led the Bears to a TD to open the final quarter narrowing the lead to 21-14. But the under still looked well in hand until - Packer DL B.J. Raji intercepts the ball and lumbers into the end zone with seven minutes to go. Raji must have set the record for the largest waist size to go for a pick six in NFL history.
With the Pack up 21-7 the Bears go into the hurry up and score a TD on a 4 play 60 yd drive. All of a sudden 2 TDs were scored within 47 seconds! Now I was in a pickle. If the Bears score another TD the score will be tied at 21-21 and unless the NFL adopts the CFL rouge rule - no way could the tie be broken without getting to an over.
After Green Bay goes 3 and out on three running plays to use up Chicago's time outs - the Bears get the ball back at their 29 with 3 minutes left. Hanie proceeds to dink and dunk his way down the field until its 4th and 5 at the Packer 29 with 37 seconds left. With my heart pounding - Hanie drops back to pass and PICK!!!Green Bay's defense saves the day 21-14. I didn't start breathing again until the second quarter of the Steelers-Jets game. WIN

Since the NFL is not playing a real game this week - I am not going to make a real pick. The NFC is favored by 1 but who cares.
