Who's that with the Video camera??
My 2-a-days are done! I have completed - not only the Handy Dandy Bettors guide for VEGAS BABY weekend (see attached) - but for every week of the season!!. Check out www.BigBookofGuesses.com under the tab 2011 Bettors Guide for every 2011 NCAA Div 1A and NFL matchup, record against the spread and lots of other cool info.
But first - you guessed it - a trivia question.
Who had the best record against the spread in 2010 in Div 1A and who had the worst? (answer below)
Friday night's festivities (that's 11/11/11) start with South Florida traveling to Syracuse. For the stat guys - Skip Holtz is an impressive 27-10-1 as an underdog including 16-6 ATS as a road dog.
Skippy may want to watch the sidelines during practices. That's because Syracuse University has hired Steve Scarnecchia -- former video director of the Patriots, Jets and Broncos -- to be the Orange's video coordinator this fall. Scarnecchia is best known for his run ins with the NFL.
As a video director for the Patriots in 2007, Scarnecchia was involved in the infamous "Spygate" scandal in which the Patriots were found to have illegally videotaped signals of New York Jets coaches in 2007. He was later fired by the Broncos after it was discovered he videotaped a 49er's walk through prior to the teams' contest in London in 2010. The NFL fined the Broncos and head coach Josh McDaniels $50,000 each for the violation.

The Bulls will be bringing a hero to their sidelines, however. Back in February, OL Danous Estenor was heading to the school’s campus when across the parking lot, he saw a man trapped under a car. Two men were struggling to free a tow truck driver who had gotten caught under the rear wheel of a 3,500 pound Cadillac.
"I just see his legs,” Estenor recalled. “The car is crushing him. He’s not moving. I’m thinking, ‘Oh, God, this guy is going to die." “I tried to lift the car, and when I first tried, it didn’t budge. I backed up. I don’t know. But I felt this energy come, and I lifted it. I don’t know how, but somebody pulled him from the car.” A true hero.
For the second time in GO JUMBO history - the Big Al rule will not be in effect as Connecticut has a bye week. Also not playing during VEGAS BABY weekend are North Carolina (Sorry Ellis), Indiana and Ball State. Sounds more like a good basketball tournament.
The Tar Heel gridders may be taking the week off but theirs cagers will be taking on MSU Friday night atop the USS Carl Vinson. The crew from the Vinson are the same ones who splashed Bin Laden this spring. Lots of heroes on that ship!
All the teams with perfect VEGAS BABY weekend records will be playing this year.
6-0 Missouri hosts Texas. Texas HC Mack Brown revamped his coaching staff, including adding OC Bryan Harsin from Boise State, after a subpar 5-7 2010 season. Meanwhile, Missouri loses 2 top ten draft choices (DE Aldon Smith - 49ers and QB Blaine Gabbert - Jags) but return 17 starters.
Also on tap, VEGAS BABY weekend winless Colorado, newly arrived in the Pac 12 and sporting a new HC to boot, entertains Arizona in Boulder. Arizona started out on fire going 7-1 in 2010 only to lose its last five including an ugly bowl loss (as predicted correctly by the Doofus) to OK State in the Alamo Bowl.
Finally, The highlight will be when two teams with perfect VEGAS BABY weekend records go at it. Undefeated Arkansas hosts winless Tennessee. Guess I'll have to take Arkansas regardless of the spread.
Speaking of spreads - believe it or not but the Golden Nugget already has some lines for week 11. Nothing like jumping on some action real early
Visitor Home Line

OREGON STANFORD OREGON -1
TCU BOISE STATE BOISE STATE -14.5

Hmmm... Arkansas giving 13 - that's a bunch but gotta go with it - the trend is your friend!
And Georgia giving 9 against Auburn?? Lots of teams are looking for paybacks against the War Eagles but I'm not sure the Dawgs are up to giving 9.
Another bit of info I came across - Cantor Gaming who recently took over operations of the Sports Books for the Venetian and Palazzo, has set up lines for every NFL game for 2011. Of course, having some free time lately, I loaded all the lines into my spreadsheet. Check out the Big Book of Guesses website under the tab 2011 Bettors Guide for all the match ups and spreads. Some pretty interesting lines for the VEGAS BABY weekend!
Trivia Answers -
Hawaii rebounded from a mediocre 2009 to go 10-4 in 2010 and 11-2 ATS. Close behind was Virginia Tech at 10-2 ATS.
Buffalo continued to struggle after losing Turner Gill to Kansas - going an abysmal 2-10 straight up and 1-10 ATS (they won a non lined game against Div 1AA Rhode Island). Also turning in miserable results ATS were Northwestern and Rutgers - both going 2-8-1. Dobby, Bruce and the Doofus are expecting much better next year.
Remember - The fun starts Friday Nov 11 at the Las Vegas Hilton
