Your husband is over in the LVH Sports Book
A couple of weeks ago all the Div 1A teams announced their schedules. The holdouts were the Big East and MAC when Temple made a last minute move from the MAC to the Big Least. So now the complete schedule for every week including the all important week 8 (Saturday October 20) are out.
But first, a recap of all the moves in the world of Div 1A college football. The biggest were the additions of Missouri and Texas A&M to the SEC (ending one of the best rivalries in college football – the Turkey Day treat of Texas versus Texas A&M). The Big 12, in a move to stay relevant added TCU (from the Mountain West) and West Virginia (Big East). The Big East was now in a world of hurt as it now had lost one of it best football programs and was going to lose Syracuse and Pitt to the ACC in 2013. So they went on a real acquisition spree adding Temple this year - who they kicked out of the Big East after the 2004 season – plus Central Florida, Memphis, Houston and SMU from CUSA in 2013, and Boise State and San Diego State from the Mountain West in 2013 as well as Navy in 2015.
The Mountain West retaliated by stealing Boise State (apparently as a one year loaner), Nevada, Hawaii and Fresno State from the WAC. The WAC was then forced to drop down to Div 1AA promoting Texas State and Texas San Antonio to the big time – sort of. Also promoted to Div 1A this year are South Alabama to the Sun Belt and Massachusetts to the MAC. And to top it all off – there are strong indications that the CUSA and MWC conferences will merge after 2013.
Whew! Lots of moving pieces and I don’t think they are done yet. Don’t be surprised if the Big 10 makes a move after this year.

I recapped the head coaching changes back in January but there was one more move last week. Arkansas fired Bobby Petrino after he was crashed his motorcycle. On board was his 25 year old girl friend. The girl friend had been given a $20,000 plus a cushy job in the football program and was the fiancé of one of his assistant coaches. What a total jerk. Good riddance! Arkansas got what the deserved – The Hogs hired Petrino from the Atlanta Falcons in mid season. Petrino announced his departure with letters taped to the lockers of the Falcon players.
No replacement HC has been announced yet. Assistant Head Coach Taver Johnson is in charge and has asked the staff, including Bobby’s brother Paul, to remain through the end of spring practice. That has to give you a warm and fuzzy about your job.

Step away from the trophy sir ...... veeeery sloooowly
Word from Tuscaloosa is that a father of a current player got his foot caught on a rug that sits beneath the championship trophy display - smashing the crystal trophy to bits. Bama fans are not worried - claiming they will just win another one this year. Auburn knows how to handle their championship trophy. It was behind armored glass when I went to see it. The Doofus’ reputation for agility and coordination is well known down on the Plains.
So what does the football slate look like for the Go Jumbo weekend? For all the weekend’s games, results from last year and the head to head record against the spreads over the last 7 years check out the spreadsheet click here. And for the entire years Div 1A schedule and records click here. I will be updating these throughout the year including the 2012 record against the spread!
Some real interesting games this year. Of course, the biggest will be MSU going for its fifth straight win against Michigan in Ann Arbor. The Drunken Bums will be rootin’ on their Spartans loud and proud to victory - much to the annoyance of the rest of the Sports book crowd.
The weekend’s action will start on Thursday night for the real early arrivees when Oregon travels to Arizona State. I usually don’t like siding with the Ducks especially on the road. But they will be taking on Todd Graham – another Petrino class jerk – he left Pitt in the lurch after one year at the helm. Looks like a good game for the over. I’ll hit Big Pam up for some cash. She likes taking the over.
Friday night could be difficult as UConn travels to the Carrier Dome to take on Syracuse. The Big Al will be in effect after a one year hiatus. So far it is the only game scheduled for that night which means our betting will be restricted to baseball playoffs and early NHL and NBA action. The Doofus cleaned up last year on the NHL so maybe that won’t be so bad after all.

Woz had the entire sports book taking the half time under!!
Then the fun really starts with FFDY!!
For the Doofus progeny – Georgia Tech will be hosting Boston College. I’m sure Bruce will give my seat away to a worthy whiskey swilling replacement. And Auburn will be traveling to Vanderbilt. War eagle!
Ellis will be cheering on his Tar Heels as they take on their hated rivals Dook. Last year we were rooting against UNC in the Carrier Classic (Miiiiss iiiiit!!!) but this year the Doofus will be siding with the Carolina Blue.
Dobby’s Rutgers team will be heading to Philly to square off against Temple in Big East play. Chris will be in a pickle as his two favorite teams Purdue and Ohio State play against each other in C Bus. Dwink’s Army squad will be traveling to Ypsilanti to blast away at Eastern Michigan -while Rock’s Wake Forest team will be in Charlottesville to take on the Cavaliers of Virginia in ACC action. And as Bruce watches GT from the stands his beloved Purple Haze from Northwestern will be hosting Nebraska. This year we will be trying to get Bruce’s brother Andrew to come and watch his favorite team Cal take on their hated rivals Stanford. Lots of good rivalry games this year!!
Lots of good revenge matchups too! Texas will be looking to avenge last year’s loss to Baylor. The boys in the Longhorn motor pool have been grumbling all year about that game. I’ll be siding with the Longhorns as Baylor will be without RGIII and WR Kendall Wright - a definite first and potentially first round draftee. The Purdue Ohio State matchup is also a revenge game as OSU lost in OT to the Boilers 26-23. I’ll be laying the points and taking OSU. Back in 2009 Purdue beat OSU 26-18. The next year, OSU covered a 23.5 spread annihilating Purdue 49-0.
But the biggest revenge matchup will be Oklahoma State hosting Iowa State. Last year OSU was stunned losing in double OT 37-31 to the Cyclones - playing the day after their Women’s basketball coach was killed in a plane crash. The loss ruined the Cowboys chances to play in the National Championship setting up the dreaded all SEC game.
Some other interesting games on the slate include a Morman Catholic smack down as BYU travels to Notre Dame to look for the missing golden tablets under Touchdown Jesus. South Carolina heads to Gainesville to take on Florida in a key SEC East matchup.
Tennessee has never won against the spread on GO JUMBO weekend. This year the will be taking on Alabama. Sounds like that streak may continue. Unfortunately the two remaining undefeated on VEGAS BABY weekend teams are not playing - Arkansas and Missouri. There goes that parlay.
Might have to hit Big Pam up for another potential over game - Rice heads up to Tulsa in what is usually a high scoring affair. Over the last 7 years these games have averaged 72.7 points.
Just tons of interesting games and the season is still over 4 months away!
In the next update I will go through the NFL matchups which were released Tuesday.
Remember – the GO JUMBO weekend is October 20, 2012. We will be staying at the Las Vegas Hotel (formerly the Las Vegas Hilton)
