Wadda Game!
We were saying that a whole lot this weekend.
Ellis hosted a get together on his deck for the afternoon and night games and there was plenty of excitement.
The day started with the Granddoofusses and me watching MSU obliterate Indiana. Dantonio and the team got the message – no let ups. After a couple of defensive miscues in the first half State was trailing 17-14 late in the second quarter.
They started kicking ass. State took only three plays to score and take a 21-14 lead. A lead they never relinquished. Indiana went three and out and MSU drove 68 yards to go up 28-14 to close the half.
It was all State in the second half with 4 more TDs while holding Indiana to 22 yards total. Message received. Never let up.
After the game the press wanted to talk about this week’s game against Michigan. The coaching staff and team would have nothing of it. They wanted to celebrate Dantonio’s 100th game and 70th win!
After the game, I left the granddoofusses with Mrs Doofus and headed over to Ellis’ Ellis was kind enough to tape Georgia Tech vs North Carolina while I headed over.
When we got together we were already excited about a couple upsets earlier in the day.

When we got together we were already excited about a couple upsets earlier in the day.

Kansas State 31 Oklahoma 30 – After trailing most of the game – the Sooners drove to the KSU 4, 1st and goal. Three runs by star RB could only get it to the Wildcat 1. The FG unit comes out. The kick is up and NO GOOD! Michael Hunnicutt missed the chip shot.
Earlier in the fourth, when Oklahoma scored a TD the extra point was blocked. It proved to be the difference in the game.
Wadda game we were saying.
West Virginia 41 Baylor 27 – While the game was not that dramatic, the impact on State’s chances to get into the inaugural playoff could be. Baylor tied the game 27 all to end the third quarter. It was all Neers after that.
WVU put together back to back TD drives of 68 and 72 yards to take a 41-27 lead. The high powered Baylor offense was held scoreless for the rest of the game. They did get to the WVU 10 but a 4th and goal pass from the 18 was broken up.
Nice game but the real action was yet to come.
Now the beauty of taping a game is that you can catch up to real time during commercials and watch another game live and set it to pause and catch up again.
That was what we were doing. We started with the Tech Carolina game and then did look ins on the FSU Domer game when that one started later.
The Tech game started out with some exciting back and forth action. Tech jumped out to a 10-7 but Carolina went ahead 21-10 on back to back TD drives. We decided to check out the Domer game that was just starting.
We weren’t going to check back on Tech for quite awhile – the FSU game was that exciting. Usually the big hyped games turn out to be yawners. Not this one. It lived up to the hype.

The teams were feeling each other out in the first quarter until ND went on a nice 6 minute 84 yard drive to go up 7-0.
FSU immediately countered with a quick TD drive of their own to tie it. This was going to be a tight battle.
ND interecepted a pass on FSU opening drive of the 2nd quarter – getting the ball at the FSU 31. Winston was looking a little shaky in the first half and ND pounced. Two plays later they were in the end zone. 14-7 ND.
Once again FSU countered but this time for a FG to make the half time score 14-10 ND.
But like any championship caliber team, Notre Dame made the most of their chances. With just under five minutes left in the 2nd, the Domers burned off all but 39 seconds and kicked a FG. 17-10 ND. It looked like there would be another big upset this weekend.
At the half we went back to the Tech game. Ellis was in heaven. North Carolina was turning it on – taking a 24-21 deficit into a 42-31 lead midway through the fourth quarter. Over a half hearted objection from Ellis we decided to switch back to the Domer game.
It was a great decision. Jameis got his mojo going in the second half. He took the ‘Noles 70 yards on the opening second half drive. TD! FSU amd ND were tied 17 all.
ND was not intimidated. Golson had his mojo going too. He countered with an 83 yard scoring drive. ND 24-17. Wadda game!
Jameis was not done yet either. He took the Noles on a 75 yard scoring drive. The game was tied again 24-24. This is a hella of a game!
All the fireworks of the 3rd quarter were just an appetizer for a fantastic fourth.
ND opened the scoring with a FG to lead 27-24.
And once again, FSU countered. This time with a TD. FSU 31 ND 27. It was the first lead for the ‘Noles.
The teams traded punts which set the most dramatic ending of the day
After a short FSU punt, ND had the ball first and ten at midfield - 2:53 left. Golson was determined to burn off as much clock as he could but he needed a TD. A FG would do no good.
The drive did not start out well. A sack on 3rd and 12 pushed the Domers back to the ND 43 – 4th and 18.
Golson hits WR Corey Robinson for 20 yards – First down! Holy crap – this is a great game.
Golson works the clock and the field with precision getting the ball to the FSU 8 – 1st and ten – 26 seconds left. Time out.
We were on the edge of our seats – hootin’ and hollerin’

And this exciting finish
Yes, that was offensive interference. Too bad – they won and lost the game on the same play. The penalty set them back fifteen yards. Too far for anything but a Hail Mary heave.
But Wadda game!
And in the middle of all that excitement I glanced at the rolling scoreboard. I turned to Ellis – did you see the NC GT score?
Nope
Well, time to put the recording on. It’s a hell of a game
While we were watching the FSU Domer game, UNC had rallied to take a 42-37 lead. Tech had the ball on their 25 with 3:20 left when this great play happened.

Wadda game – Tech 43 UNC 42
But the fun was not over
Carolina takes the ball over at their 25 and go on a clock killing 3 minute drive punching it in from the 2 to win the game 48-43
A hellova ball game.
We caught our breath and switched over to the end of the Texas Iowa State game. The Cyclones had the ball at their 25 and had driven to the Texas 11. QB Sam Richardson drops back and TD! ISU ties it 45 all. Great game!
Texas gets the ball back at their 28 with 24 seconds left. This game is headed for OT
Or is it? Texas hits for a 39 yard pass play to get it to the Cyclone 4 – 7 seconds left. They hit the chip shot FG to win 48-45.
Wadda game!
We were exhausted. Three great finishes in a matter of minutes.
And while the games were great the picks were awful
Week 8 Mega Bets Recap
Kentucky +10.5 @ LSU – I never had a chance. LSU steamrolled Kentucky rushing for 303 yards while keeping the Wildcats to 71. Kentucky got a FG to cut the lead to 17-3 at the half vut LSU kept blasting away outscoring Kentucky 24-0 in the second half. Final score LSU 41 Kentucky 3 LOSS
Washington +20.5 @ Oregon – The Huskies at least had a chance. They cut the lead to 42-20 on a TD with 5:22 left. Oregon countered with a FG to go up 48-20. Crap. Still a TD and two point conversion could get the back door cover.
Nope – Washington goes nowhere on their last drive. Final Score Oregon 48 Huskies 20 LOSS
NY Giants +6.5 @ Dallas – Betting against a hot team is always dangerous. Dallas is a hot team right now,
But the Giants tried to make a game of it. Trailing 28-14, Eli Manning hit on a 5 yard TD pass to cut the lead to 28-21 with 5 minutes left.
Dallas then drives and gets a FG with one minute left. 31-21 Dallas
OK Giants – the FG doesn’t hurt. Granted a win is out of the question but get a TD and we have the back door cover. Manning hits Larry Donnell over the middle and fumble! Crap. Dallas recovers. Ball game
It was Donnell’s second lost fumble. The first led to a Dallas TD
Final score – Cowboys 31 Giants 21 LOSS
Last week I would have gone 9-1 if I had gone with the home teams. So what do I do this week? Take all visitors and go 0-3.

The Sheriff fared no better going 0-3 as well with
Minnesota (-12.5) over Purdue. – Purdue is making improvements during the year. The actually led this game 38-29 late on the third. The Gophers rallied to win it 39-38. LOSS – The Doofus was right on this one – take the points.
Baylor/West Virginia OVER (79.5). The Neers actually played a little defense in this one – Final WVU 41 Baylor 27 LOSS
Wyoming (+1.5) over San Jose State. The other Spartans scored a FG with 52 seconds left to force OT. They then scored on TD in the first OT and held the Cowboys to win 27-20 LOSS
Time to start turning things around.
But first, who cares about betting quatloos on the Mega Bets. The big game is Michigan State vs scUM.

But first, who cares about betting quatloos on the Mega Bets. The big game is Michigan State vs scUM.

MSU -17.0 vs scUM – For all the talk about State’s great defense holding UM 48 yards short of break even rushing last year, and the Wolvies wanting to establish the run – it’s State’s offense that is running the show this year. MSU has a balanced offense and will control the clock against an improved UM defense.
The scUM offense is bad. Real bad. Ranking 108th in scoring. Gardner will make his usual bone headed plays and State will be playing from a short field. It won’t be a blow out but State should get the win.
Bruce wants to Mega Bet the Spartans on this game but I have put a hold on Mega Betting the Spartans after the Sheriff’s earlier jinxes.
Pitt -3.5 vs Georgia Tech – Tech is coming off back to back losses. The offense is humming along just fine. As usual, the Wreck is running the ball all over the field ranking 5th overall. And the passing game will burn you if you put too many men in the box. Tech only throws it 15 times a game but average 19.2 yards per completion
But the defense has gone bye bye. They’ve let up 79 points in the two losses.
Pitt? There is no figuring out this team. One week they are losing to Akron then the next they are beating Va Tech.
This will be Tech’s first trip to the Steel City since 1920. The Golden Tornado (as they were known then) lost their third straight to Pitt that year
Bruce wants to Mega Bet the Panthers. Go ahead. Mega Bet against your own damn team. I’ll stick with Tech but no quatloos. These teams are too unstable for me.
USC -1.0 @ Utah – #19 Utah host #21 USC in a key PAC 12 matchup. USC has rallied from a hail mary loss to Arizona State by beating Arizona and then blowing out Colorado. Utah has rallied from a loss to Washington State by beating UCLA and Oregon State on the road.
These teams are very similar and the excitement will be high at Rice Eccles as the home team will be in black out mode.
Lesson learned – I’ll lean with the home team.

Week 9 Mega Bets
West Virginia PK @ Oklahoma State – OK ‘Neers, can you back up a huge win last week over Baylor at home with a win on the road. The talent is there but is the focus?
WVU Head Coach Dana Holgorsen was the OC at Okie State before moving to Morgantown. Now he returns to Boone Pickens where he was last seen guiding OSU to an 11-2 record back in 2010.
WVU’s defense was masterful in limiting Baylor to 318 yards last week. Now they take on a Cowboy offense that is struggling after losing QB JW Walsh to a foot injury. Backup QB Daxx Garman was awful last week in a 42-9 blowout loss to TCU. He threw for a meager 132 yards and failed to complete a pass in the second half.
Holgorsen will keep his team focused and spoil homecoming for the Cowboys.
Ole Miss -3.5 @ LSU – The Rebs are on a roll. They have won their six of their last seven games by at least 15 points. And the 15 pointer was a result of a meaningless TD on the last play by Texas A&M.
The Ole Miss defense has been outstanding this year leading the nation in points allowed at 10.6 per game. This week they face an LSU team with a young QB Anthony Jennings. He is completing only 50% of his passes but he’s not making mistakes – throwing 7 TDs to only 3 picks.
LSU is a very up and down team. They were blown out by Auburn 41-7, looked mediocre in a 30-27 win in the Swamp and then exposed Kentucky last week, winning big 41-3.
Ole Miss is not Kentucky and are a lot better than Florida. QB Bo Wallace will start out slow but turn it on in the second half. And the Land Shark defense will contain the Tigers.
Detroit -3.5 vs Atlanta (London) – The Falcons are bad. They are on a four game losing streak – all by double digits. The Atlanta defense was expected to struggle and they have, ranking 27th. But the offense is now struggling. They have put up only one TD in each of the last two weeks and is 30th in points scored and yards gained.
Now Atlanta offense missing 4 starters on the OLine will try to find its groove again against the a Lions team that is 3rd in sacks and 1st in defensive efficiency. Not going to happen.
If Calvin Johnson plays this game will be a romp. But he is questionable and Reggie Bush is doubtful. No matter, Joique Bell will have a field day against a Falcon defense that has allowed an average 140 yards rushing over the last four games.
The favored teams have won every London game. The streak will continue. And get up early – game time is 9:30 AM eastern
Indianapolis -3.0 @ Pittsburgh – Andrew Luck is off to a great start this year. Under his leadership, the Colts are number 1 in passing and overall offense. Indy has won five straight and Luck has passed for over 200 yards in each game.
And the way to beat a great QB is to put pressure in his face. Pittsburgh can’t do that. They have only four sacks in the last four games.
Meanwhile, the Colts defense is much improved. They are tied with the Lions in sacks and rank just behind them in defensive efficiency.
For the Mini Megas I’ll go with
Minnesota -5.5 @ Illinois
Nevada -3.0 @ Hawaii
Green Bay -2.5 @ New Orleans
Baltimore -1.0 @ Cincinnati
All visitors again. Some Doofusses never learn.

The Sheriff is going with
After going 0-3 last week, the Sheriff is crawling back to the PAC-12 with his tail between his legs. If this were a prizefight, it would be called (“no mas, no mas”), but he’s coming back for more abuse.
Utah (+1) over USC. This is the game of the week in the PAC-12. Utah has an excellent defense with a tough, physical front seven and a great field goal kicker in Andy (“Automatic Andy”) Phillips who is 13-15 in FG attempts this year. I expect the Utes to dominate the line of scrimmage and punch the Condoms right in the mouth. Utah’s one weakness is at QB where they have been platooning Travis Wilson and Kendal Thompson for the last two games, but Kyle Whittingham is a great coach who has prevented that from becoming a distraction. Utah also has the best running back in the PAC-12 in Devontae Booker, who is averaging 6.2 yards per carry. The entire state of Utah is coming out for this game Saturday night.
UNDER (55.5) Utah/USC. I don’t know if the Doofus will allow two bets on the same game, but if he will I’m taking the UNDER. Utah’s strategy in this game will be to dominate time of possession with their great RB Booker and keep the potent USC offense off the field. I expect a low scoring game with great special teams play and lots of hitting.
The Doofus abides and will allow two bets on the same game.
Oregon (-17.5) over Cal. Hate to bet against my Bears but Oregon is starting to put it all together after hammering Washington and UCLA in back-to-back weeks. Cal is a gutty team and you never know how many yards/TDs Jared Goff will accumulate, but they are simply outmatched in this game. The Ducks will roll and cover easily.
Doofus – The Sheriff had this pick in on Weds. Cal went for two late in the game and missed. Final Score Oregon 59 Cal 41 – WIN Feels good
And for all the games, spreads, picks and much much more – here is the Week 9 Bettors Guide
