Every college football season has one. The Saturday when the College Football Playoff is thrown into total disarray. Saturday was that Saturday.
Teams ranked 2 (Clemson), 3 (scUM), 4 (Washington), 8 (Texas A&M) and 9 (Auburn) all lost.
For A&M that's two losses in a row and three of their last four.
And it was fun watching NarDog's Pitt Panthers take down Clemson with a walk off FG
But the best was (and will always be) seeing Iowa steamroll the vaunted scUM defense. They must have been looking at the MSU tape pretty closely to see how you can rip open holes in that DL.
The down side, if there is one, is that now a State win in the last two games either helps Penn State or scUM. It's that age old dilemma - do you root against State if it helps Michigan. Simple answer NEVER! My love for State will always be greater than the hate for Michigan. Anyone who tries to argue the reverse is an idiotic moronic dolt not worth the air they breathe.
Now if State were to lose both games the Playoff Committee could end up with tough call. Should the Buck Nuts beat Michigan too, they could end up in the playoffs without making the Big Ten Championship game.

The Coaching Carousel had a couple of moves this week.
Georgia State fired Trent Miles after starting out 2-8 this year. Miles was 9-38 overall. Last year he made it to a bowl, the first ever for the Panthers. But a sluggish start, including going 0-5 out the chute cost him his job. That, and Georgia State approving $58 million to buy the Ted from the Braves and convert it into new football stadium. New stadium means new HC
Florida International went down a slightly different route. They had already forced Ron Turner and named Ron Cooper as interim HC. On Sunday, Butch Davis was named HC.
Butch was last seen at North Carolina where he was fired in 2011 after the administration "lost confidence in our ability to come through this (meaning NCAA investigations) without harming the way people think of this institution." There were lots of allegations regarding improper player benefits and inappropriate academic assistance.
Ellis is a big fan of Butch saying that he has a perfect record at North Carolina - lots of allegations, no convictions. If Ellis is any example, players could use all the academic assistance they can get.

Of course, now that it’s not for real the Doofus has a profitable week. The Advanced Betting Metrics for Week 11 were:

4. On spreads from 10.0 to 13.5 take the favorite if it’s home otherwise pass
Central Florida -12.0 vs Cincinnati – UCF 24 Cincinnati 3 WIN

UNC Charlotte -10.5 vs Rice – Rice 22 UNC Charlotte 21 LOSS
UCLA -11.0 vs Oregon State – UCLA 38 Beavers 24 WIN Bruins got a pick six with 2 minutes to go to get the cover
Georgia State -12.0 vs UL Monroe – UL Monroe 37 Ga State 23 LOSS
Florida -11.0 vs South Carolina – Florida 20 South Carolina 7 WIN
Texas A&M -10.0 vs Ole Miss – Ole Miss 29 Texas A&M 28 LOSS

Texas A&M -10.0 vs Ole Miss – Ole Miss 29 Texas A&M 28 LOSS

5. From 14 to 20.5 take the home dog otherwise pass
Hawaii +18.0 vs Boise State – BSU 52 Hawaii 16 LOSS
Arizona +16.0 vs Colorado – Buffs 49 Arizona 21 LOSS
So, 7-6 Not bad. 54% enough to squeak by the spiff and return a small profit. It was really good on the spreads up to 10 but above that, the bad teams didn’t cover.
Overall, the BBofG went 31-25-1. It ignored the Advanced Betting Metrics twice and went with the Sheriff – losing both times. The Sheriff is in a bit of a tailspin lately. More on the below. If I would have followed the ABM instead of the Sheriff, the BBofG would have gone 33-23-1 or 59% - outstanding

The Doofus also had a winning week (finally) going 2-1 on the Mega Bets:
Wyoming -7.5 @ UNLV – Wyoming couldn’t handle the UNLV rushing attack. The Running Rebs won 69-66 LOSS Would have made a great over pick. Hurdle was 64.5
Central Florida -12.5 vs Cincinnati –The ABM came through. Cincinnati couldn’t hang on the ball turning it over 3 times as the Knights rolled 24-3 WIN
Seattle +7.5 @ New England – That last play should have been offensive interference. Refs need to make that call a lot more often. Seattle hung on to win outright 31-24 WIN

The ABM likes a ton of picks this week.
1. Take the visiting favorite if the spread is from 0 to 3.0.
Kent State -3.0 @ Bowling Green
Ohio PK @ Central Michigan
Northern Illinois -3.0 @ Eastern
Tulsa -2.0 @ Central Florida
Miami (FL) -3.0 @ NC State
Northwestern -2.0 @ Minnesota - Bruce is excited
Kansas State -2.0 @ Baylor
Marshall -2.5 @ Florida Intl – The ABM doesn't like Butch apparently
Hawaii -2.5 @ Fresno State
Georgia Southern -3.0 @ Georgia State – Nor any HC change for that matter
2. On spreads from 3.5 to 6.5 take the favorite if it’s the visitor otherwise pass
Oklahoma -3.5 @ West Virginia
Texas Tech -3.5 @ Iowa State
Southern Miss -5.5 @ North Texas
Middle Tenn State -4.0 @ UNC Charlotte
Utah State -6.5 @ Nevada
3. From 7.0 to 9.5 take the underdog if it’s the visitor otherwise pass
Arkansas State +8.0 @ Troy
UConn +7.5 @ Boston College - the ABM is flaunting the Big Al Rule
Duke +8.5 @ Pitt
Texas State +9.5 @ New Mexico St
4. On spreads from 10.0 to 13.5 take the favorite if it’s home otherwise pass
Georgia Tech -11.0 vs Virginia – Both of Bruce’s teams are ABM picks
Nebraska -13.5 vs Maryland
5. From 14 to 20.5 take the home dog otherwise pass
Tulane +15.0 vs Temple – another Bruce favorite
6. Take the favorite on spreads greater than 40.0
No spreads at 40.0 or above this week
That's a full 22 selections this week. There's going to be a long line behind me at the betting window.

. Laying the short points hasn't been the best strategy using the ABM but what the heck - I'll go with the following Mega Bets:
Northwestern -2.0 @ Minnesota - That scream you heard was Bruce wondering why I would jinx his Cats. Well, just seems like a good pick. Northwestern's offense has taken it up quite a few notches since the beginning of the year. Last week the racked up over 600 yards of offense led by WR Austin Carr, one of the 10 finalist for the Biletnikoff award.
Minnesota may have won four straight before gagging against Nebraska but who did they beat? Illinois, Purdue, Maryland and Rutgers. Not exactly murderers row.
The Cats have covered 5 of their last six ATS. The Goofers are 1-5 at home ATS. I'll go with those trends

Navy -7.5 @ East Carolina - Win this and the Middies are in the AAC championship game. ECU is a train wreck losing 6 of their last seven. The problem? The run defense which has let up over 600 yards rushing over the last two weeks. Not exactly good news when facing Navy's option attack. Navy's aerial attack has some pop too with QB Will Worth completing 64% of his passes.
The Pirates are turnover prone giving it over to their opponents 22 times (116th) while Navy is tight with the pigskin losing it only 8 times (5th) The trends favor Navy too as they are 14-6-1 ATS while ECU is 1-6-1

New England -11.5 @ San Francisco – Laying nearly 2 TDs? Sure if it’s a pissed off Tom Brady. The best team in football (if my future bet on the Super Bowl is correct) is coming off a tough loss to Seattle. Now they are facing the worst team in football. Yup, worse than the Brownies, who are at least competitive.
The Gronk is probably not going to play but it won’t matter. Martellus Bennett will pick up the slack and LeGarrette Blount will have a field day against a pathetic Niner run defense.
Kaepernick is an idiot and the Hooded One will have him confused all night leading to several turnovers. With a short field, Brady will show the wold that last week was an aberration.
I’ll go with some mini megas this week starting with:

Kansas State -2.0 @ Baylor – Remember when Baylor used to be good? Their demise couldn’t happen to a better team. Except for Penn State that is. The Bears were struggling before they lost QB Seth Russel. Now they will be starting a freshman at QB Zach Smith. He was awful last week going 6 for 15.
Southern Miss -5.5 @ North Texas - Southern Miss has the 5th best offense and yet has lost 4 of their last 5. Why? Not the defense, its solid, Nope turnovers. The Golden eagles are dead last in the turnover margin at -17. They are -3 in fur of their last six games.
So why take such a bunging team? Because North Texas iis equally inept. Not becasue of turnovers. They are just bad. And now they are going without their starting QB. USM will hang onto the ball and roll the Mean Green.

Va Tech +1.0 @ Notre Dame – The Hokies are wildly inconsistent, beating good terams like Miami (FL) and North Carolina and yet losing to Georga Tech and Syracuse. The win when they want to . THey'll want this against th struggling Doners.
I'll also go with a Point Whore Parlay with

Massachusetts +29.0 @ BYU
Buffalo +35.0 @ Western Michigan
