The wait is over!!
The Doofus Deck is going to have a shake down cruise tonight as Ellis and the gang come over to watch North Carolina play at South Carolina. We may also put Wake Forest hosting Presbyterian if Rock makes it over.
And if Dobby sticks around long enough we will watch Rutgers play at Fresno State. The Scarlet Tights faded down the stretch last year while Fresno State is 13-3 against the spread over their last 16 games.
Ellis returns the favor Friday night as I will heading over to his place to watch the Spartans take on Western Michigan. Dwink plans on showing up to in the hopes that Elis will put on Morgan State at Army during the commercial breaks. Maybe - depends on how good the commercials are.
And then the big weekend. The Doofus Deck will be showing at least 3 games at a time (more if Chris brings over a cable box) with plenty of great games on tap. It's my 2nd FFDY!!
For Bruce and me - there's Elon vs Georgia Tech at Noon and Northwestern travels to Cal at 10:30. Will new Cal HC Sonny Dykes have his new offense up and running in time to take on a dark horse Big 10 favorite. And how will the long travel and late kick off affect the boys in purple. Should be fun as Bruce gets to root against The Sheriff of Malibu's favorite team.
For Chris there's Purdue at Cincinnati and Buffalo at Ohio State - both at Noon. And the night cap when a denizen of the hot seat Lane Kiffin takes his USC team to Hawai'i. Both teams are starting new QBs, For Hawai's it's Ohio State transfer Taylor Graham. Matt Barkley is now playing on Sundays but Kiffin said he won't name his replacement until the teams gets to the Pineapple State
Mark is going to be a no show but we will be watching Temple at Notre Dame anyways. Rooting against the Domers is always a hit on the Doofus Deck.
A huge game with Va Tech taking on Bama at 5:30. Will the Tide be looking to make an opening game statement like last year (what a great game Bama 41 scUM 14) or will the be caught looking ahead to Texas A&M in two weeks? Va Tech slipped last year going 7-6. Prior to last season the Hokies had won at least 10 games for 6 straight seasons. Was it an aberration or has Beamer started to lose it?
Perhaps the best game of the night is Georgia vs Clemson at 8:00. It's only week one and already we have a game with national championship impact. Clemson made a miraculous come back to beat LSU in the Chik-Fil-A bowl last year. Now they are in the hunt not only for the ACC championship but maybe for all the marbles. Georgia was 10 yards from playing for it all last year but Bama held in the SEC championship and then went on to bitch slap ND. With this being a huge game - the Mutts won't be caught looking ahead will they? They play South Carolina next week.
Here are all the games this week. For first time readers - the spreadsheet shows every FBS game, time, TV network, spread, Over/Under, result from the game last year (revenge games are excellent betting opportunities), record against the spread this year (everyone is going to 0-0 in week 1 obviously), Sagarin rating and much more. Check it out!

As for the Week 1 Mega Bets - this is always a hard time to pick. Just way too many variables. New head coaches and schemes, replacing players, suspensions all play into the havoc.
Still there are angles that will be in play. Teams that are on a mission from a let down last year. Intact teams ready to take the next step. Pathetic teams with new head coaches that are going to play even slightly better than last year. Or teams on the way down, lost a great HC or starting talent.
With that in mind I'll venture out to start the 2013 Mega Bet Campaign with
LSU -4.5 @ TCU - If it weren't for Alabama it might be the Bayou Bengals with multiple crystal footballs in the locker room. This year the are felling dissed after being voted number 12 to start the season.
The last we saw of TCU the were losing to Sparty in the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl. TCU struggles against a great defense in that game and now that face another great defense in LSU. TCU wins games by relying on their defense too but will be missing suspended DL Devonte Fields.
LSU won't be looking ahead to next week as they host UAB - so they will be fully focused on putting the beat down on an up and coming brand name TCU squad to jump start their hunt for a BCS bid.
Going to put a few quatloos down too on the under of 49.5
BYU -1.5 @ Virginia - Virginia struggled last year going 4-8 half the win total from the year before. That put HC Mike London firmly on the hot seat. So he did what all toasty bun HCs do and brought in new coordinators. New for the offense are former Colorado State HC Steve Fairchild and former BC and NC State HC Tom O'Brien. Neither was known for their high powered offenses.
These two will be looking to start a red shirt sophomore QB David Watford. Watford will has his hands full as BYU brings in the returning number 3 defense from last year. They probably won't be that good again but the D will still be stout this year. .
Virginia is 1-7-1 against the spread versus non ACC foes while BYU has gone 14-8 on the road. I'll give the measly 1.5 points
Northwestern -6.0 @ Cal - Sonny Dykes will get Cal's offense up and running eventually but not now and not against a solid defense like the Purple Haze. Tyler Scott returns as the nations leading sack master from last year and will be camped in the Bears backfield. He will be chasing down a true freshman in bear QB Jared Goff
Northwestern running game will pick up where it left off last year as both QB Kain Coulter and RB Venric Mark return. Cal has three new starters on the DL so the figures to be plenty of holes.
The Cats were 12-1 versus the spread last year and 6-0 as a favorite. The trend will continue - at least to start the year.
For the Week 1 Point Whore Parlay (taking dogs of at least 10 points on a parlay card) - I'll go with
Wyoming +30.0 @ Nebraska
UL Monroe +22.0 @ Oklahoma
New Mexico State +43.0 @ Texas
Remember the GO JUMBO weekend is Oct 26th at the LVH hotel
