It was the Doofus' birthday recently. Mike and Mrs Mike took me out for a great time at a nice wine based restaurant. Since they were buying I tried my hand at far too many varietals. My finely tuned, whiskey based, barrek aged digestive system paid the price the next day. But it was well worth it.
The conversation ranged far and wide but a particular favorite was the recently announced NFL schedule. Mike has partial season tickets the the Packers. He gets to go to all home games except two. The so called Gold games. This year the Gold games were the Monday night game versus Kansas City - fair enough, it's Monday night, The second was versus the Lions. Mike was pissed. Why do they always make the second game versus the Lions? Why not the Bears or Vikings? They are bigger rivals for the Pack. We ordered him a Pinot and he settled down a bit.
My attention was focused on the line up for the Go Jumbo trip. I was going to need some of that Pinot too. Not only are the Lions part of the Gold package but they are idle for the Go Jumbo trip. Seems like every other year they sit home while we go to Vegas.
Pat was actually relieved. He used to clean up betting against the Lions. Now they are competitive making a easy bet a thing of the past.
The other teams staying home this year are Kansas City and Seattle the two teams involved in the NFL Mega Bet win last year, Arizona, Detroit's opponent last year; Baltimore and Houston. That are some pretty solid teams not playing.
Which means the line up is scarce on good games. This year's line up starts on Thursday night with Cleveland @ Cincinnati. Chris might get excited but that looks like a yawner.
On Sunday the games are:
Green Bay @ Carolina
Washington @ New England
Tennessee @ New Orleans
Jacksonville @ NY Jets
NY Giants @ Tampa Bay
Atlanta @ San Francisco
Denver @ Indianapolis
and for the Sunday Night game
Philadelphia @ Dallas
Two games stand out, The Denver Indy game could be huge. Last year, this was a week 1 premier match up as Peyton was facing his replacement in the Circle City. Peyton won that game but Andrew Luck got his revenge in the playoffs. Who goes 1 game up in this rivalry?
From a betting perspective, take the Colts. They are 6-0 against the spread during the regular season against Denver over the last 10 years.
The Sunday night match up should be a dandy too. Philly and Dallas split their games last year with the visitors winning each game. This game could have huge playoff implications.
Bruce will be looking forward to Atlanta heading cross country to the Bay Area. The Niners should be in total melt down mode by then. The front office botched it with Harbaugh - much to the delight of the Wolvies. Now they continue to screw things up in free agency. Expect a couple blunders in the draft too.
The rest of the games look like snooze fests. Mike will be rooting on the Pack, as will the gang, as they root against Carolina. Not much to excited about in the rest of the games.
There is one angle from a betting perspective though. While the Tennessee Vols have never won ATS during the Go Jumbo weekend , the Tennessee Titans have never lost ATS during our annual Vegas trip. This year they should be a dog against New Orleans. If you like betting on trends - take the points.
Here are all the NFL games this year including the times, networks and head to head records against the spread for the last 10 years. I'll be updating this during the year.

Pete has his fall back plan in place in case the NFL games suck this year. The Elvis exhibit opened this weekend at the Westgate. Pete will be packing his best Elvis outfits and heading over.
The Sax Man went to the Green and White game this weekend taking the Doofus grandson. He was bummed he forgot to bring something for Coach D to sign. H was really bummed when I said that he should have brought the football that he had signed back by coach Bobby Williams when he was about the same age. That would have been a cool start to a family tradition. Maybe next year.
Remember - the Go Jumo trip is Nov 7th at the Westgate resort. The Westgate has been updating thier sales prices and are up to September. Won't be long now
