Nick wanted to win back the bottle of bourbon he lost on the World Cup so he took Europe in the Ryder Cup.
By Saturday I texted him that it was over faster than a teenage virgin his first time. The USA got smoked.
Fortunately I was watching my picks have a great weekend. Following Pat's advice (always a tricky proposition) I bet heavily on College and toned it down on the pros.
Unlike previous weeks, in the college games the picks were so so but the betting allocation was great. I went 5-6 on the quatloo bets but 2-0 on the Mega Bets. Very profitable.
In the Pro games I won the Mini Mega but got hosed on the Mega Bet. The Browns were up 8, getting 2.5 with less than 2 minutes to go. Cleveland had forced Oakland to use all it's time outs and made a first down. All tehy needed now was to go in the victory formation.
But the play was close so they reviewed it. The announcers were going that no way was it going to be overturned. In fact, they thought, if anything, the refs shorted the Browns a bit on the spot. I agreed.
It went to New York where they reviewed the Big Book of Guesses update, saw I had the Browns, and told the refs to overturn the call. No measurement or anything. Just 4th down. Cleveland had to punt.
Of course Oakland scores a TD, gets the 2, forces OT and wins on a FG.
Goodell owes me one.

This week I'm going to buck last week's trend and go wit a ton of quatloo bets and just one Mega Bet.
The quatloo bets are:
Spreads are updated with some picks deleted due to line moves and a heavy dose of sobriety. Also added ULL @ Texas State.
Cal -2.5 @ Arizona – Using the comparative technique, Cal beat BYU in Provo, BYU beat Arizona in Tucson. Oh, and it’s a revenge game for the Bears too.
Last year, Tate ran for 137 yards in a wild 45-44 firefight. So far this season Tate has rushed for 69 yards in five games. Sumlin is an idiot for the way he handles Tate.
Auburn -3.5 @ Mississippi State – The other MSU went into SEC play and got nowhere. They scored a combined 13 points against Kentucky and Florida. They won’t get that much more against the Auburn defense.

Cincinnati -7.0 vs Tulane – The Green Wave have yet to put the show on the road — they’ve lost at Ohio State, not bad but lost to UAB - ouch. Fickell’s team is not getting much respect. They’re the best 5-0 team you haven’t heard of.
NC State -6.5 vs Boston College - The BC offense centers around RB Andy Dillon who suffered an ankle injury last week. The Wolfpack offense revolves around QB Ryan Finley, who is on fire
This is a payback game for the future NFL starter after coming up with his worst game of his 2017 by far, completing just 14-of-33 passes in last year’s 17-14 win at BC.
Northern Illinois -2.5 @ Ball State - The Huskies have dominated the Cardinals for nearly a decade, taking them down in nine straight meetings dating back to 2009. There were only two times NIU didn’t cover in that stretch, and both of those came prior to 2012.

Ohio -12.0 @ Kent State – Ohio is coming off their best offensive performance so far this season. Kent State can’t stop anyone. The trend continues.
LSU -2.5 @ Florida – That’s what LSU fans have been looking for from QB Joe Burrow. He completed 18 of 25 passes for 292 yards and three scores while adding 96 and a touchdown on the ground against Ole Miss.
The last four games have been decided by four games or less. This will be a defensive slugfest with the better running team winning. Advantage LSU.

USF -15.5 @ UMass - The UMass defense has been awful, ranking close to the bottom of the country in just about every defensive category. They surrendered 58 points against Ohio last week. The Bulls will pour on the points.
The only thing the Minutemen have going for them is a strong passing game - the USF pass defense ranks 13th in the country.
Georgia Southern -11.5 vs South Alabama – The Jaguars are struggling on defense too - they have surrendered more than 50 points on three occasions - including twice in a row following last weekend’s 52-7 loss to App State.
Georgia Southern’s option attack is rolling - blowing past the 300-yard mark on the ground in three of the four games with the miss coming against Clemson.

Colorado -2.5 vs Arizona State – Going against the Sheriff here. ASU is the talk of the town under Herm. But the success he’s had in the desert has yet to transfer outside of Arizona. The Sun Devils lost by a touchdown at both San Diego State and then No. 10 Washington
Buff QB Steven Montez has completed 75.2 percent of his passes for 1,092 yards and nine scores with only two interceptions. The trends favor Colorado. The home team is 5-0 ATS in the last five meetings and the underdog is 1-8 ATS in the last nine games between the teams.
Texas A&M -6.0 vs Kentucky -Going into College Station and beating the Aggies is no easy task, even Clemson escaped by a whisker.
Kentucky’s turnaround is the real deal but Wildcats defense will be without standout middle linebacker Kash Daniel for the first half of the game. He was ejected for targeting last week. That’s good news for RB Traveon Williams, who will have a much easier time navigating the run gaps.
And QB Kellen Mond’s dual threat abilities will be too much for the Wildcats defense. He lit up the Clemson defense up at home for 430 passing yards and three touchdowns. A defense that was only allowing 263.6 yards of total offense a game.

Central Florida -24.5 vs SMU – SMU’s defense has issues. The Mustangs have given up at least 27 points in every game this season and 406.2 yards per contest in total offense. That’s a bad matchup against a UCF team that has averaged 545 yards of offense and scored at least 38 points in every game this season. There are just way too many weapons for SMU to try and contain.
North Texas -27.0 vs UTEP - UTEP’s offense has been awful this season as they are dead last in scoring in Dic 1A
That’s a bad matchup against North Texas, who are in the top 25 in scoring defense. The Mean Green has an explosive offense that can move the ball quickly and easily through the air.
North Texas is rebounding from a loss and will be fired up. UTEP has lost 17 straight. They’re used to it.
UL Lafayette -3.5 @ Texas State - Both teams are 1-3 but ULL lost to Mississippi State and Alabama on the road. Texas State lost to South Alabama and UT San Antonio. Ragin Cajuns get the needed win.

And for the one and only Mega Bet this week I’ll go with:
Syracuse -3.5 @ Pittsburgh - Syracuse had #3 Clemson on the ropes in Death Valley but couldn’t hold up late - giving up the winning score with 41 seconds to go.
Pitt's lines are awful. They are the main reason the Panthers are 2nd to last in the ACC in both offense and defense.
Syracuse has a pretty good DL. They are tied for 1st in the nation with Clemson with 17 sacks on the year.
Last season, the Orange fell apart after defeating Clemson. This year will be different. They come out fored up and take down Nardawg.
The trends favor the Cuse. Pitt is 1-4 ATS overall and 1-4 ATS on grass. Syracuse is 4-0-1 ATS overall and 6-0 ATS on grass.

In the NFL I'll go with 2 Mini Megas since Goodell is squashing my Mega Bets:
Philadelphia -3.0 vs Minnesota - The Vikings defense is overrated. It was torn apart by a middling rookie Josh Allen and a one legged Aaron Rodgers. The reason is the LBs inability to cover in space.
They are especially vulnerable to the play action. In last weeks loss to LA, of the 465 yards given up, 326 came off play action.
The Eagles will also pressure the overrated Kirk Cousins. (Sorry Spartan fans) as the OL is known to be a liability.
Meanwhile Carson Wentz continues to improve after coming off a knee tear. He will replicate last year's 38-7 beat down of the Vikings in the NFC Championship.

For the Point Whore Parlay (whic went 2-1 last week) I'll go with:
Florida State +12.5 @ Miami (FL)
Maryland +17.5 @ scUM
San Diego State +14.5 @ Boise State

The Sheriff finally got a winning week last week and this week goes with:
Wisconsin (-20) vs Nebraska - The Sheriff can’t resist rubbing a little salt in Scott Frost’s wounds as Nebraska goes 0-5 for the first time since 1945. Wonder if he thinks this is a “winnable game”?
Arizona State (+2.5) @ Colorado - Herm Edwards may be the Coach of the Year in the PAC-12. The Sun Devils played Washington tough up in SEATTLE two weeks ago, and the Sheriff is predicting an upset in Boulder.
Washington (-21) @ UCLA - More bad news for Chip Kelly and his Bruins as the first place Huskies come to the Rose Bowl on Saturday. Washington has recovered from its season-opening loss to Auburn and appears to be hitting its stride. The last place Bruins will offer little resistance.
