Mrs Doofus and I had a great weekend at the beach with Nick and Mrs Nick. Saturday was phenomenal. Nick and I spent Saturday at rather large tiki bar by the beach drinking Monk in the Trunk beer watching college football. Nick had picked the beer because he said the monk bore a striking resemblance to someone he knew. For the life of me, I couldn’t make the connection.
By the time we had cleaned out the stash and had to switch to another local brew, I was cleaning up on the college picks going 9-5. The barkeep finally threw us out, so we went to Nick’s room to have some Old Forester’s. Nick had bought it for losing our quadrennial World Cup bet.
It was the last bet of the night, a mega bet no less and it wasn’t going well. Stanford was giving 2.0, was down 3.0 with less than a minute to go when this happened.

Stanford recovers the fumble, ties it with a FG as time expires and wins it in OT. A miracle finish. About time the turnovers started going my way (Stanford had a scoop six and a pick too)
I was way up for the weekend. But as Pat texted, I only half listened to Mom. I had overloaded on the NFL.
Sure enough, on Sunday we lounged at the beach, went to a trendy arts district (a price for getting to watch football all day Saturday, I guess) and had dinners and salsa lessons in Lil Havana. All the while I was getting crushed in the NFL losing all but one bet including 2 Mega bets.
Lesson relearned. Dial it back in the NFL.
So this week I’m going to pass and just watch the big games, OSU Penn State, Stanford Notre Dame and the Dan Mullin bowl – Mississippi State Florida. The spreads are about right.
But I will go with these, toss them out, just for fun quatloo bets:
North Texas -7.0 vs La Tech – Hmmmm, go with the team that blew out Arkansas or the team that hung tough with LSU? I’m on the Mean Green bandwagon. They are breaking out the retro Mean Joe Greene unis and unretiring his number 75 for one game. They will be pumped at home, have a coke and cover.
Eastern Michigan -3.0 @ Northern Illinois - The Huskies are dead last in offense and all I have to give is a field goal? Hurons, victors over Purdue, can do that.
Indiana -16.5 vs Rutgers - Rutgers hasn’t figured out how to play college football. Indiana has the weapons to make this another skewering of the Scarlet Knights.
New Mexico -6.5 vs Liberty - Yeah, Liberty rolled Old Dominion in week 1 but that was when they were brand spanking new to Div 1A. Since then they have been getting rolled by everyone. The Lobos are off a bye week and get their starting QB back.
Colorado -9.5 vs UCLA - Chip’s return to college ball has been a resounding dud. He’ll get it going again but not on the road against this Buff’s team that leads the PAC 12 is sacks and tackles for loss.

USC -3.5 @ Arizona - As long as Sumlin keeps trying to make Khalil Tate a pocket passer, I’ll keep betting against the Wildcats. JT Daniels has found his groove and torches the Zona secondary.
UT San Antonio -10.0 vs UTEP – UTEP battled New Mexico State last week to see who was the worst team in Div 1A. UTEP won, I mean lost, 27-20. Bad teams don’t recover on the road.
Oregon -3.0 @ Cal - Going against the Sheriff here and it’s a pure bounce back bet. Oregon was putting a beat down on Stanford last week and then blew it. They won’t blow it this week.

No Mini Megas this week. They’ve been a disappointment to say the least. But I’ll will go with two Megas:
Oklahoma State -17 @ Kansas – I hate giving this many points. Just hate it - and on the road no less. But Okie State is going to be playing out of their minds after last week’s face plant against Texas Tech.
Kansas got more than their normal amount of wins by beating two sisters of the poor, Central Michigan and Rutgers, and got back to the Jayhawk way losing to Baylor 26-7. If the Bears can win by 19 then the a Cowboy team on the rebound can win by 17.
The Poke’s 11th ranked offense has enough firepower to have the cover by half time. Just got to hope the keep the petal to the metal in the second half.
Purdue -3.5 @ Nebraska – The Boilers finally got off the schneid. After being oh so close against Missouri, they went out and left skid marks all over a good BC team.
Scott Frost is finding that the turnaround at Nebraska is farther away than he imagined. Your favorite team’s third string would do better than Nebraska did last week against Michigan.
Nebraska is home for their first Big 10 game while it’s Purdue’s first away game. The Huskers will play much better but Purdue is about to go off on their best game yet.
It’s been two straight Point Whore Parlay wins. These will make a three-peat.
BYU +17.5 @@ Washington
Tennessee +31.5 @ Georgia
Syracuse +25.5 @ Clemson
I’ll tone it down in the NFL and limit it to one Mega Bet:

Cleveland +2.5 @ Oakland – The Browns have an underrated defense. They made Drew Brees and Big Ben struggle. Now they have uncorked Baker Mayfield.
Oakland is still looking for their first win as the continually blow it in the fourth quarter. Derek Carr is rumored to have had a falling out with Chucky.
Cleveland should be favored. The points are a gift.
I’ll also go with a mini mega (got have one) on:
Chicago -3.0 @ Tampa Bay – Fitzmagic is kaput. He’s regressed to his mean. Chicago’s defense with Khalil Mack is among the best. The Bears will overcome Mitch Trubisky miscues and win it late.
The Sheriff continues to struggle but hopes to get back with
Washington State (PK) vs Utah - Right now, graduate transfer Gardner Minshew is the best QB in the PAC-12 and Wazzu should be able to beat the Utes easily in Pullman.
Cal (+3) vs Oregon - The Bears are coming off their bye week whereas the Ducks lost a heartbreaker to Stanford in OT. Thanks for the points Vegas, but the Golden Bears win this game outright.
Purdue (-3.5) @ Nebraska - Hard to believe we live in a world where a 1-3 Purdue team can be a favorite on the road against Nebraska, but that is the world we find ourselves in. Scott Frost calls this a “winnable game”. We shall see. The Sheriff will pour himself a White Russian while enjoying this game on Jackie Treehorn’s big screen TV and savoring the 2000 miles between Malibu and Lincoln, Nebraska. Go Boilers.
