Mrs Doofus invited Doofus Daughter #1 and The Doofus Grandkids down for a weekend. I told her “OK, but you are in charge of entertainment – I’m watching football”
One of the kids leaked out and joined me on the Doofus Deck. I was appalled. Not at joining me. That was fun.
No, I was appalled at his lack of football knowledge. Granted, he knew the basics. But he was nowhere near what a high school freshman should know.
I was about ready to call child services for a severe case of football neglect. Then I figured I might get wrapped into the investigation so I let it ride.
We spent the the afternoon having fun cheering on my favorite teams. As a neophyte, he had no ponies in this race so I got to pick who we were rooting for. At the same time I was trying tried to get him within a couple of grades of his age group for football knowledge. Can’t go through High School without knowing football for crying out loud. You would be better off wearing an "Give me an Atomic Wedgie" T-shirt
I looked at the schedule and said “Let’s switch to the Central Michigan game. Your Mom went there”. He was pumped. It was an exciting game with Central hanging around for a possible huge upset.
I went to DD#1 and and told her about the game.
“Coooool” in that tone one uses to brush someone else off with fake interest. I might have as well said “I tied my own shoes today”
No matter. We knew it was a great game
With 4 seconds to go Okie State had the ball, 4th down. They decide to drop back, burn some clock and then heave it into the stands.
"That was pretty smart way to kill the clock DGK#1." I was impressed. He was impressed that I was impressed.
But then - penalty on OK State - intentional grounding
DGK#1 was punping me for more info
What's going on?
I feigned some knowledge and in a very professorial tone said "Well, you see, there was a penalty and you can't end the game by committing a penalty." I was winging it but it seemed right.
And then this happened

Central makes the miraculous Hail Mary and wins the game.
We were going nuts. I ran to DD#1 and said "Central wins. Central Wins. You won't believe what happened"
"Cooooool" in a tone half a pitch higher. Guess I was able to button my own shirt too. Total not caring.
Now I know why DGK#1 is so far behind.
No matter. We had a blast watching the games. especially because....
The Doofus was on fire this weekend!
The Big Book of Guesses was just slightly below average again on the College games going 22-24-0. But on the NFL it was fantastic going an amazing 12-4 against the spread.
And the Doofus went 2-0 on the Mega Bets and 3-0 on the Mini Megas. Too bad we weren’t in Vegas this weekend!
Appalachian State -20.5 vs Old Dominion – Any time you have a great weekend with your picks you need some breaks. I caught a break on this one.
App State was dominating as expected but not covering. They were up 24-7 and got the ball back with 5:15 to go. The Mountaineers went on an 11 play drive and punched it in with 57 seconds to go. Nice drive and a nice meaningless score to get the cover. WIN
Tampa Bay +3.0 vs Atlanta – After an early interception that put Atlanta up 10-3. Bruce was texting me some grief but I blew it off. Atlanta got a lucky score. It won’t last.
It didn’t. Tampa Bay scored on their next possession to tie and the just rolled the Falcons. Late in the 3rd quarter the Bucs were up 31-13. The held on to win 31-24 for the cover and a WIN

I'm geeked for the upcoming weekend. Well, maybe not geeked. More like hesitant. I had a great weekend but these things can turn in a heartbeat so I won't go nuts this weekend
Last weekend I went heavy in the pros and taking the points and it paid off. This weekend I don't see so many easy bets so I'll swing back to the college games and give the points with
Ohio State -1.5 @ Oklahoma - Don't need a whole lot of analytics on this one. All you need is one key fact. bob Stoops doesn't show up for the big games. In week one he is an 11.5 favorite to Houston and he loses. Last year he was a 3.5 point dog in round one of the playoffs and got slaughtered 37-17.
The bigger the stage - the bigger Stoops falls.
If you want analytics – how about this. Ohio State has won an amazing 18 in a row on the road – the longest streak in the nation. The BuckNuts are 2-0 ATS this year while Sooners are 0-2. And Suburban is 14-8 on the road ATS while Stoops is a middling 15-16 at home.
Western Kentucky -17.5 @ Miami (OH) – The Redskins are a miserable team. There best game is a 24 point loss to Iowa. Last week, they lost to a Div1AA Eastern Illinois.
They are about to get there doors blown off by a the high scoring PillPoppers stinging from a loss to Bama last week. WKU is 9-3 ATS as a favorite and 7-2 when laying double digits.
Last year Western KY rolled Miami (OH) 56-14. Expect a similar score this year.

Tampa Bay +6.5 @ Arizona – Another week, another underrated Tampa Bay getting points on the road.
Conversley, Arizona is overrated as shown by their loss as a favorite to New England last week without Tom Brady.
No Bill Belichck is not an amazing magician. He just took down a Cardinal team struggling in the secondary. Famous Jameis will find Mike Evans for plenty of yards.
Carson Palmer seems a bit off too. He nearly through four picks last week. Now his OL is banged up. He’ll be feeling the heat.
The Cardinals had a great season last year yet were 3-5 as a home favorite.
I’ll go with some Mini Megas too with
Maryland -9.0 @ Central Florida – Maryland has destroyed two bad teams so far this year. Make it three.
North Carolina State -21.5 vs Old Dominion – Fading the Moarchs is a winning strategy. I’ll stick with a good thing.
San Diego State -10.5 @ Northern Illinois – The Huskies are one of the biggest disappointments so far this year – losing to a bad Wyoming team and getting crushed by South Florida. SDSU just beat Cal. The winning streak continues.

Washington State -28.0 vs Idaho – WSU will be fired up after losing a close one to Boise. Idaho is going through the paces until they drop to Div1AA.
Carolina -13.5 vs San Francisco – Don’t let that Monday Night win fool ya, the Niners are a joke.
Now they face a fired up Carolina team coming off a tough loss to Denver. The Panthers have had 10 days to stew and play a west coast team playing a 1:00 game. In fact, the same thing happened last year. The 49ers won a late Monday nightgame, traveled across the country on a short work week to play a 1 p.m. Eastern game against a good team coming off a Week 1 loss. The Steelers throttled the 49ers, 43-18.
I usually don’t like laying a ton of points in the NFL but this game has blow out written all over it.
Since I like giving the points this week, I'm not going with a Point Whore Parlay. But I will do an over/under parlay with
Houston @ Cincinnati - Over 64.5
Texas @ Cal - Under 81.0
Vanderbilt @ Georgia Tech - Under 42.5

2016 Week 3 Bettors Guide |

The Sheriff went 1-2 last week with the Dofus warning him about the two losses. But did he listen….?
He weighs in this week with:
Nebraska (-3) over Oregon. The Sheriff hates to bet against his beloved PAC-12, but Oregon has looked uninspired in its first two games this year against UC-Davis and Virginia (not to mention the fact the Ducks didn’t cover the number against Virginia). Nebraska, on the other hand, looks revitalized under Mike Riley after two impressive wins. Look for that sea of Red to swallow the Ducks.
Doofus: I’m not so sure. This has an interesting angle in that Mike Riley of Nebraska was the Oregon State HC. At OSU he went 0-7 vs the Ducks. Ducks are 9-0 ATS on the road. Riley is 4-10 ATS at home
UCLA (-3) over BYU. The Sheriff still likes the Bruins to win the PAC-12 South, even after their disappointing defeat at Texas A&M. Josh Rosen got humbled by the Aggies (he threw two awful picks), but he still has the best arm in the country. The Bruins will be facing some angry Mormons in Provo, but UCLA will win this game and enter PAC-12 play next week 2-1.
Doofus: Again – not so sure. Bruins 0-4 as underdog. Mora is 2-8 in his last 10 non-conference games. BYU is 4-0-1 as home favorite. I’ll pass
Stanford (-8.5) over USC. The Condoms beat a lackluster Utah State team 45-7 last week, but USC still has big problems. Backup QB Sam Darnold has actually looked better than the starter Max Browne, but until Clay Helton makes a switch he is going to have a quarterback controversy in Trojanland. And Max Browne has not played well, nor has the offensive line (which was supposed to be one of the team’s strengths). Stanford’s QB Ryan Burns, on the other hand, looked great against K-State, completing 14 of 18 passes and looking like the next Kevin Hogan. The Cardinal will pound the Condoms in Palo Alto.
Doofus: Now you are on the right track. Trojans are 2-8 as a visiting dog. The Tree is 9-4 as the home favorite. Good pick
