It was a great Thanksgiving at the Doofus household. Full of family friends, food and, of course, football! Mrs Doofus cooked up her annual fine feast and sewspite the ravenous horde there were still plenty of leftovers. We then huddled together to watch a Lions win followed by more football.
On Saturday, I went to an Old Fashioned Hate with the Sax Man, Saxy Lady and a Doofus Daughter. The tailgate was fun but for such an intense rivalry, the game was actually quite boring. Niether team seemed really into it. Georgia jumped out to an early 7-0 lead and then.... nothing. The Dawgs got a couple more field goals. In the fourth quarter, Tech cut the lead to 13-7 which got the home crowd excited but the Jackets sputtered after that. Georgia held on to win 13-7.

After the game we headed over to a local Spartan watering hole to watch State take on Penn State. WIn and they were in the Big Ten championship. We were geeked. So was the bar. With each score the crowd got loudeer. By the end of the 55-16 rout, the place was rocking.
Which sets up a Spartan-Hawkeye Big Ten Championship. MSU is plating in their 3rd championship game in five year - facing off against the only team to have a winning record against Dantonio - Iowa. The spread is a tempting 3.5 but I learned my lesson in Vegas. I'll take MSU but no quatloos.
Why State? Well, the obvious reason is that I always take MSU. But even from a strict bettors perspective, taking MSU and laying the points is the way to go.
Iowa may be undefeated but who have they played? The Big Ten West was a disappointment. And the Hawkeyes didn't play any of the Big Ten East powerhouses - scUM, OSU or State. So who is their signature win? The most impressive win was over a fading Northewestern 40-10. The rest of the big games were one score wins - a testament to the winning attitude this team has but it did demonstrate a key flaw. The defense is tough but the the offense is one dimesional. Iowa can throw a little but overall they have to rely on the running game. A bad matchup against a Spartan D that is peaking at just the right time. State eats up one dimensional offenses.
The State offense rides on the arm of Connor Cook. He's healthy again and will find Aaron Burbridge on the patented back shoulder fade. And with LJ Scott and Gerald Holnmes carrying the rock, State will be more than Iowa can handle.
The winner will go tho the playoffs. It's State's turn this year.
The Spartan game is at 8pm Eastern which means there are plent of warm up games to watch. Nothing stands out this week worthy of a Mega bet but there are some great games starting with:
ACC Championship - Clemson -5.5 vs North Carolina - Sorry Ellis, I'll be rooting for the Heels but my money is on Clemson. I still remember how pissed off Ellis was after blowing it to South carolina. He was ready to throw in the towel on the season. Man, have they taken off since the with UNC going undefeated. The offense was superb as expected but it was the defense under new DC Gene Chizik that showed marked improvement this year
But just like Iowa - what is the signature win? A 26-19 @ Pitt is probably the best. And as good as the defense was - it's nowhere near the Clemson defense. The offenses are equalt but tthe Tigers can stop the ball better. I'll root for UNC but I'll pick Clemson to cover the less than a TD spread.
PAC 12 Championship USC +4.0 vs Stanford - This is a rematch of Stanfords 41-31 win back on week 3. Since then USC has replaced their head coach and played much better. The Cardinal are still the better team but I'm going to rely on "It's tough to beat a team twice in one year" mantra and take the Trojans. Sorry Mrs H.
American Chamionship Houston -6.0 vs Temple. - Temple's offense is too one dimensional to keep up with Houiston. Temple QB PJ Walker will be behind early and need to pass to stay in the game. He can't. Houston, with a rookie head coach will win the first ever AAC championship game.
Mountain West Championship San Diego State -6.5 vs Air Force - Two very tough discipline dteams face off in the Mountain West. Normally I would take the points but I got a feeling the Aztec RB Donnell Pumphrey will take off in this game. He has 12 straight 100 yard games. Make that 13 in a row.
SEC Championship Flirda +17.0 vs Alabama - Going to assume that Florida gets a lucky TD somehere during the game. The Gator defense should keep them in the game. But the offense? I don;t know. They couldn't score at all last week against FSU and they struggled to put away a bad Florida Atlantic team,
This week the Gators come with their A game and get a back door cover.
CUSA Championship Southern Miss +7.5 vs Western Kentucky - This should be the funnest game of the weekend. Are there two hotter teams in the CUSA than WKU or Southern Miss? I doubt it. Southern Miss has scored 56 or more points in every game in November.
WKU just blew through the CUSA. In a high scoring game I'll take the Golden Eagles and the hook. Keep plenty of popcorn ready cause if you go to microwave some more you'll miss a couple of scores.
And here are all the games, spreads, picks and much much more.
