The gang is off to VEGAS BABY!!
Its GO JUMBO Week!!
After all the analysis, reading and practice picks – it’s time to see the if the Doofus can take back some money from VEGAS BABY!!
Week 7 - the final tune up weekend - started out nice enough. The Sax Man joined the Doofus in heading over to Ole Miss to watch the Rebels take on Auburn. Prior to the game we strolled over to the Grove. We had a great time with some friends at their tailgate. Reb fans like to say that no matter who wins the game – they always win the tailgate. It’s true! The Grove is awesome. Tons of tents, lots of food, barrels of adult beverages. I’ve been to plenty of tailgates but they are minuscule compared to the Grove. If you ever get a chance – go to an Ole Miss tailgate. Great time
But that was to be the highlight of the weekend. At the game – Auburn crawled back from a 14-0 deficit to tie it 17 all at the half. Going into the 4th quarter the War Eagles trailed 27-20 and had stopped Ole Miss on 3rd and long (or at least they thought they had) when this play happened R U kidding me? The bottom fell out as the War Eagles were outscored 17-0 after that play.
As I was walking out of the stadium I regained cell coverage – only to find out that MSU had lost to Iowa 16-13 in OT. Crap.

Take that Week 7!
And as other results poured in – it became apparent that the Big Book of Guesses would have a losing week too. Overall it went 35-41-1 The Mega Bets had its first losing weekend since week 1 going 2-3 as:
Kent State 31 Army 17 – Despite pleas from Dwink to change the pick – the Doofus held firm and correctly so. Even though KSU was outgained 457 yards to 367 - the Golden Flashes held Army scoreless until late in the third quarter. Meanwhile, the Flashers had built a solid 17-0 lead. After a FG by the Middies the KSU came right back with a TD to go ahead 24-3. Kent State got one more TD in the fourth quarter winning 31-17 - easily covering the 2 point spread. Sorry Dwink WIN
Toledo -14.0 @ Eastern Michigan – Getting the 14 point cover was looking good as Toledo built a 21-10 half time lead. Then all hell broke loose as the Rockets and Eagles each scored 4 TDs in the third quarter. The Eagles were not done as the outscored Toledo 14-7 in the fourth quarter still losing but getting the cover. Once again the Doofus was done in with a 10 to 15 point cover. When will I ever learn? LOSS
Oklahoma State -27.5 @ Kansas – In the driving rain neither team scored in the 1st quarter. The game was delayed at the end of the first quarter due to lightning. When the teams came back on the field over an hour later Okie State caught fire – taking a 20-0 lead early in the 4th quarter. But the Pokes ran out of steam as Kansas rallied for 2 TDs in the final stanza. They still lost but blew up my pick LOSS
Oregon State 42 BYU 24 – Sometimes when you blow a pick you really blow it. OSU QB Cody Vaz played like he had been starting these last two years – throwing for 322 yards and 3 TDs. The 37.5 under was blown with 3 minutes left in the third quarter when BYU rallied to tie the game at 21 all. And the teams kept going - scoring another 24 points in the 4th quarter. Bad bad LOSS
Florida State 51 Boston College 7 – The last Mega Bet was the best. Florida State covered the 27.5 point on their first drive of the 3rd quarter taking a 38-7 lead. The Noles took the foot off the gas coasting for 13 more points in the rest of the game. Easy WIN
Good thing I didn’t make any NFL Mega Bets as the BBofG went 5-9 on the pros.
The Under/Over Parlay followed suit with the Mega Bets having it first losing week since week 1 going 1-2 with:
South Carolina @ LSU - under 40.5 – Final LSU 23 Cocks 21 Cocks scored a TD with 1:41 left in the game to blow the under. Damn Cocks LOSS
Stanford @ Notre Dame - under 44.5 – Final ND 20 Cardinal 13 – Almost blew this one in OT when Stanford got jobbed by the refs. Refs miscalled the tying TD. Must be where the replacement refs from the NFL ended up. WIN
Louisville @ Pittsburgh - Under 48.5 – Final Louisville 45 Pitt 35 – Another Bad Bad LOSS
This one’s for Bruce and his Wildcats. The defense hit the Goofer so hard his decal came off The Decal
So now it’s time for the picks that count!! No more practice picks – It’s GAME TIME!!
I’m finishing up Part one in the LVH Sports Book – Yeah Baby!! I’m sitting in the lounge chairs, cigar in hand, whiskey by my side (blended – it’s free – what are you going to do?) and getting ready for some FOOTBALL!! Life is good.
Week 8 - The Ones that really count Mega Bets – Part 1
Two College games and one pro game tonight. Nothing sticks out for a true Mega bet. I’ll have to wait until Saturday (No bets on Friday since the only game is UConn and the Big Al rule is in effect!). I will make some bets on tonight’s games though:
Oregon -8.5 @ Arizona State - Under 69.0 – Spread is too high for me. Oregon is in a true road game for the first time this year. The Sun Devil fans will be sporting their black out gear and the place will be rocking. Still, I am not about to bet against the Quack Attack. I’ll take the Ducks and the under. Oregon’s defense is often overlooked due to their high powered offense.
Houston -4.0 @ SMU – SMU QB Garrett Gilbert is truly awful. Much more was expected when he transferred from Texas (where he sucked) to be tutored by June Jones. Didn’t work. So far this year he has 7 TDs and 11 picks. He just lost to Tulane for crying out loud. You lose to Tulane – you suck. No way he is going to keep up with Houston’s potent offense.
Seattle +8.0 @ San Francisco - Over 37.5 san Francisco won’t lose two in a row at home but 8 oints is a lot to give to a solid Seattle team. This is going to be a hoard hitting cose game. I was going to take the under but Woz talked me out of it (he’s been here since noon the degenerate). If this game goes under it’s Woz’s fault
