The Doofus Deck was sporting rally hats!
Only one more week until GO JUMBO!! Can’t wait!!
And the Doofus deck was rockin’ again last Saturday as the gang gathered together for an all day (and deep into the night) football watching party. Ron was initiated into the Whiskey Swilling Cigar Chomping Football Society with Ellis’ classic “You want to go camping?” joke.
And lots of good football was to be had. We donned our rally hats as Michigan State came back from a 27-14 half time deficit to win 31-27. Phew! That was too close.
The rally hats backfired on Bruce though as Penn State scored two TDs in the last 2:30 of the game to win 39-28. Sorry Bruce – we were looking forward to another rendition of the Wildcat strut.
The hats backfired on Rock too when Maryland scored the winning TD with 5 minutes to go to beat Wake. Rock can’t blame the rally hats too much though - their kicker missed two FGs bringing his season record to 2 for 6.
Everyone else went away bagging a victory. North Carolina got a huge win over Va Tech 48-34. Rutgers pounded UConn 19-3. But the biggest cheer went out when Army scored a TD with 45 seconds left to beat BC 34-31. Great game.
On Tuesday, after blowing another 4th quarter lead (a 47-31 loss to Clemson) Georgia Tech fired their DC Al Groh. It marked the third straight game the Wreck gave up 40 points. In fact, after starting out 6-0 last year, the Jackets were outscored 48-14 in the fourth quarter over their last seven games. Can’t disagree with that decision. The Jacket defense has been just plain awful with missed assignments, poor tackling, blown coverages…. But it also sounds of desperation. GT continues to slide after winning the ACC two years ago. Paul Johnson is now officially on the hot seat.
Sounds like Kansas HC Charlie “Front Butt” Weiss has given upon the season. Earlier this week he didn’t practice the seniors – having them lift weights instead. He used the practice day to “develop the younger players for the future”. Talk about a morale booster. Weiss is an idiot.

The Doofus is pretty satisfied with the season so far
Fret not though - the Doofus hasn’t given up on the season! The Big Book of Guesses reverted back to form going 34-39-1. But the Doofus racked up another winning week going (yet again) 2-1 with:
Kent State 41 Eastern Michigan 14 – This one was like shooting fish in a barrel. The Flashes totally dominated this game both on the scoreboard and in the stats. Yards – KSU 467 EMU 200; First downs KSU 27 EMU 7 (wow). How bad was he Eagle offense? They went 0-9 on third downs. Guess they needed to play GT’s defense. Kent State easily covered the three points in another gift from Vegas. Thank you Vegas! I’ll be there to see you next week! WIN
Seattle +3.0 @ Carolina – As expected, the Seattle defense thoroughly dominated Cam Newton and the Carolina offense. The Panthers were held to 190 yards of offense. The game would have been a blow out but Seattle kept stalling in the red zone – settling for 3 FGs. Seahawk QB (and former Badger) Russlel Wilson threw an awful pick 6 too keeping the game closer than it needed to be. But Seattle got the win while getting 3 points. WIN
Pittsburgh 16 Philadelphia 14 - This game is a perfect example of why it’s tough to give points in the NFL. When Pittsburgh got the ball trailing 14-13 in the fourth quarter you just knew they were going to go for the FG rather than a TD. Sure enough, the Steelers went on a beautiful 70 yard drive milking the remaining 6:33 off the clock - winning the game with a walk off FG from the 18. Nice win but crap - needed a TD to get the 3.5 cover. LOSS
The point whore parlay had another great week going 2-0-1 with:
New Mexico State +9.5 @ Idaho – Final Idaho 26 NSU 18 (got the back door cover when the Aggies scored a TD with 1:55 left) WIN
UNLV +27.0 @ La Tech – Final La Tech 58 UNLV 31 (another late score helped the Doofus as UNLV got a TD with 1:33 left) TIE
Washington St +15.0 @ Oregon State – Final OSU 19 WSU 6 (the two QB’s were terrible going for a combined 1 TD and 7 picks) WIN
Seeing how I went with a “Ties Win” parlay card, the Doofus got his third point whore parlay win of the season. That brings the record for the point whore parlays to 12-5-1 Nice
The Mega Bets season record now stands 11-8. Just need the winning streak to keep up for two more weeks!
This week I’ll start preparing for the GO JUMBO by going with 5 picks. Got to start stepping it up before the big weekend!
Week 7 Mega Bets
Kent State -2.0 @ Army – Jamie, the young Doofus padawan, likes this one. The Master does too. Kent State is 4-1. Army needed a last second TD to beat an equally inept BC squad for their only win on the year. KSU just put up 86 points over the last two games. Army ranks 110th in points allowed. The Flashes are going to roll through the sieve known as the Black Knight defense. Sorry Dwink – enjoy your win for a week.
Oklahoma State -27.5 @ Kansas – If Front Butt wants to give up on the season then I’ll let him – and I’ll fade him all along the way. Nothing like dissing your seniors to get them ready for a potent and seething Oklahoma State. The Cowboys feel jobbed. In their last game, with 15 seconds left, Texas ran the ball into a pile at the goal line. The ruling was TD but replay showed a fumble. Texas still got the score and win. OSU has had two weeks to stew over that one and will roll over a demoralized Kansas unit.
Toledo -14.0 @ Eastern Michigan – Going to stay with a good thing. EMU stunk it up last week for their homecoming - earning a Mega Bet win for the Doofus. Now they face an even better Toledo squad. The Rockets have won 5 straight after losing their opener in OT to Arizona. Along the way they have trounced 3 other MAC teams by at least 12 points. Laying 14 to the worst team in the MAC (if not in 1A football) should be a piece of cake. Usually giving 10-15 points has been deadly for the Doofus but this one seems too tempting.
Oregon State @ BYU Under 37.5 – Oregon State is 24th in scoring defense allowing only 17 points per game. BYU is third allowing an incredible 8.8 points per game. This one had under written all over it even before Oregon State lost their starting QB. The Beavers will be starting Cody Vaz who has not even played in a game in 2 years. BYU gets back Riley Nelson who missed the last two games before going out for “back fractures”. That can’t be good. This game should be a defensive gem.
Florida State State -27.5 vs Boston College - FSU was stunned by NC State last week. Now they take on an one of the worst teams in Div 1A. The Seminoles will want to keep their faint MNC chances alive by destroying the Eagles. In front of a racous home crowd - they will do just that
No NFL picks this week - nothing really jumps out.
Not enough good picks to do a Point Whore Parlay either so I'll do an Over/Under Parlay instead
South Carolina @ LSU - under 40.5
Stanford @ Notre Dame - under 44.5
Louisville @ Pnittsburgh - Under 48.5
