Things began to turnaround this weekend.
Not State – they continued to regress. Actually there are only three problem areas
Other than that things are OK.
Bruce was not very optimistic when Northwestern closed the gap to 17-14. He decided to get another helping of Michters.
Even though we were ahead, I let him know that it’s over – the Cats will win. We’re not stopping you. Actually the text came out that we were "mint stooping you"
He was confused. I was confused. But in the end we got mint stooped.
Northwestern went on a 33-3 run before MSU tried to make it interesting.
By the time it was all over Northwestern had won 54-40. The Cats laid half a hondo on the once stout Spartan D. A graphic came up asking when the last time State let up 50. I knew right away. I was at that game. It was Saban's first and Nebraska blew us out of the Great Lakes. Afterwards,Saban said his team quit and made wholesale changes to the lineup.
Dantonio doesn't have quitters. He just has too many young guys playing. He thought we had a reload situation but it's not - its a rebuild., Lets just hope we get 6 wins to go bowling. We can use the extra practices.
Bruce promised to gloat if his Cats won. He's still at it.
Not State – they continued to regress. Actually there are only three problem areas
- The defense - They couldn’t get off the field on third down
- The offense - They couldn’t move the chains on third down
- Special teams – just when MSU look like they might make a great come back they let up a 95 yard kick off return.
Other than that things are OK.

After the game Pat decided to adopt Wisconsin as his back up team. Good choice. I told him that Johnny E would be very happy with that.
The Badgers and Ohio State played a classic Big Ten / Top Ten heavy weight, put your big boy pants on, football game.
Bucky was moving the ball early but kept having to settle for FGs. At the half it was 16-6 Wiscy. It was the fewest halftime points scored by Ohio State under Suburban Meyer.
Then JT Barrett kicked it up a notch running for 2 TDs and forcing OT. In OT he hit Noah Brown for a 7 yard TD pass to take the lead 30-23.
When the Badgers got the ball back, and just as the refs were getting ready to postpone the game due to lightning, QB Alex Hornbrook got sacked on 4th and goal to end the game.
Great game, lousy ending.
There will be a rematch though - in the Big Ten Championship game. Should be a dandy.

Joe texted after the game wondering if I saw the Stanford Notre Dame missed FG.
I actually missed that game. I had three TVs going and watching Southern Miss @ LSU since it was a Mega Bet game; Houston vs Tulsa since it was a Mini Mega game and Oho State @ Wisconsin just because it was a great game. Stanford Notre Dame wasn't worth getting another TV down from upstairs.
Might have been a bad decision. Not because of the game but because of an amazing doink.
On the opening drive, Stanford kicker Conrad Ukropina attempted a 45-yard field goal and it doinked off the top of the left upright. On top!
If a doink is worth one extra point not sure what a top doink is worth. Joe and I are still debating it. It's probably a moot point though. I doubt if it will ever happen again in our life time.

The Big Book of Guesses Coaching Hot Seat of Death claimed another victim on Sunday. Purdue's Darrell Hazell was canned after going 9-33. Over three years he won a total of three Big Ten games and never led the Boilers to consecutive wins.
In August, Purdue hired away AD Mike Bobinski from Georiga Tech. He didn't take long to have had enough. His mind was made up when the Boilers trailed an equally as bad Illinois 42-14 after three quarters. WR coach and recruiting coordinator Gerad Parker was named interim HC
No Chris, Purdue isn't going to land former LSU HC Les Miles or current Western Michigan HC PJ Fleck as their new HC. They have better places to go than God's gift to cow tipping.
Ellis' two most hated teams almost pulled of the biggest upsets of the weekend.
On Friday, Duke nearly took down Louisville. With 2:00, the Cardinals lined up for a FG that would have extended the lead to 20-14. Wide right. Duke has new life!
But there's a roughing the kicker call and Louisville gets it 1st and ten at the Duke 12. Lamar Jackson then takes it to the house and Louisville wins it 24-14.
Then on Saturday, NC State hung tough with Clemson. With the game tied 17 all, The Pack drove to the Clemson 16, lines up for the 33 yard game winning FG and ...... miss. We are headed for overtime.
Clemson scored first and then picked off NC State on their very first play of OT. Clemson ekes out a 24-17 win
Ellis, who knows a thing or two about the kicking game claims credit for both special teams blunders.

The Doofus is taking credit for a bit of a turnaround too.
For the first time all year the Big Book of Guesses had a winning week on the college games going 29-23-1.
But it was also the first time the BBofG had a losing week in the pros 5-7-2 pending tonight’s Monday night game
The Doofus had a winning week finally going 2-1 with:
North Carolina +7.5 @ Miami (FL) – Ellis hit the trifecta this weekend. Not only did Dook and NC State lose but his Heels won 20-13. It wasn't without a little angst though.
Carolina took a 20-3 half time lead but then decided to stop scoring. The Canes started slowly crawling back into the game. With 7 minutes left they had cut the lead to 20-13. Ellis texted that his Heels were going to blow this game.
But a strip sack of Brad Kaaya with 1:27 left sealed it for the boys in light blue.. Ellis was may have been worried but I wasn't I was getting 7.5. I was good no matter what happened. WIN

Southern Miss +26.0 @ LSU - I was sitting pretty. Southern Miss scored first to go up 7-0 taking a full eight minutes off the clock. I poured myself some Four Roses as an early victory present. Up 7-0 and getting 26? I like that.
At half time LSU had tied the game at 10-10. I contemplated a victory cigar. LSU needs to score 4 unanswered TDs and had only 10 points through 30 minutes.
I don't know what HC Ed Orgeron said in the locker room but it worked. On the Tiger opening possession, RB Derrius Guice bursts through the middle and scored on a 61 yard scamper. The Tigers take the lead 17-10.
That's OK I still have 19 points of cushion and Southern Miss will score.
The Eagles get the ball back and fumble!!! LSU pounces on it at the Southern MIss 30. Two plays later they are in the end zone. LSU 24 USM 10. Now I'm getting a little worried.
LSU gets the ball again, WR DJ Clarke grabs it and sprints down the sideline for an 80 yard score. 4 minutes left in the 3rd and my cushion is gone. LSU leads 31-10.
LSU gets the ball again and Malachi DuPree scoots through the middle and scores. LSU had the ball for 2 plays and scored 2 TDs...ooof. Now I was behind. A 33 point cushion to open the game was now a 2 point deficit. If you thought States defense was bad you should have seen Southern Miss' in the 2nd half.
LSU scored one more time with 5 minutes to go to ice it 45-10 LOSS
Dallas +4.0 @ Green Bay - Aaron Rodgers continues to slide and Dak Prescott just keeps getting better. Prescott passed Pretty Boy Brady to start a career without an interception. He tossed for 176 completions before he threw a pick at the Packer 6. It hardly mattered. The Boys were up 20-6.
Meanwhile, Rodgers had gone 24 for 35 TDs and a pick. He got some garbage time numbers but was not sharp for most of the game. He needs to spend more time watching film and less making commercials. At least Peyton had sense enough to retire before going big time on the advertisement circuit.
Dallas cruised to an easy 30-16 WIN
The Mini Megas went 1-3 to offset some of the winnings but still a profitable weekend overall.
The luck kind of balanced out. On Saturday, I had the over 72.5 on Houston Tulsa. It wasn't looking good.
For most of the game it was a low scoring affair but with 3:31 left Tulsa tied at 31 all. All right - no one score until OT and then let the fun begin.
But with 1:21 left Houston scores - on a strip sack of course.
But Tulsa wasn't dead yet. Check it out at the 3:22 mark

So close. First RB James "Ned" Flanders just misses scoring from 24 yards out and then the last second pass is stopped less than an inch short. The reviewed it for several minutes but let the ruling stand. A TD would have sealed the over.
I got that one back though in the Cleveland Titans game.
I took the Brownies getting 7.0. Tennessee was leading 29-13 when Cleveland scored a TD. They went for two and missed. I was still behind by 9 with 2:07 left
The onside kick is good!. Cleveland recovers and drives for a TD with 0:27 left. I had the cover after getting 14 points in under 2 minutes. Nice
I need some more games like that.
Remember the GO JUMBO trip is fast approaching! It's Nov 5th at the Westgate Resort.
