BYU ran right through MSU All in all a great weekend.
Not because of Spartan football. That was awful.
It’s official now, State is in a tailspin. The defense’s thin front seven is unable to stop the run and wears down as the game goes on.
After a great initial drive to go up 7-0 the offense stalled. The play calling then got conservative…way conservative..to save the defense I guess.
It began to wear down late in the 2nd quarter when BYU just kept gut punching and ended up kicking a FG. 7-3 at the half.
I thought, OK, Malik McDowell is back after a lame targeting call last week. The defense will get a jolt. Maybe the strategy will pay off.
Nope – BYU kept punching away. We couldn’t stop them at all. The Cougars get a TD on their first possession 10-7 BYU.

And pummeled State at their own game The get a TD on their next possession 17-7 I’m already texting and calling the game. It's still early in the 4th quarter but you could see that it was over. We couldn’t move the ball and they were just running it down our throats.
We throw a pick and BYU takes it into the end zone again. 24-7. By the time it was over we lost 31-14.
ust an ugly, ugly game. BYU did to us what we like to do to teams. Wear them down and pound it in. Sucks when you get the Spartan treatment.
The quarterback controversy is now official too. Damion Terry replaced Tyler O’Conner. He led a scoring TD but also threw that pick. Neither was impressive.
The difference is that while O’Conner would look for his first read, then panics when it’s not there, turtles and takes a sack; Terry panics and at least scrambles a bit.
Not sure if we are better either way. Will have to see if Terry gets a full week of first team reps to see if he improves. I’m not so sure.

Darius Slay sealed the win with a fantastic pick But while the game was about as fun as warm drink of bat piss I’ll still had a great time this weekend. Mrs. Doofus and I came up north and visited with Nick and Mrs Nick. Great food, great drinks and great time. A visit to the Nicks always earns me kudos from Mrs Doofus.
Nick and I were going on about various comedic entries we should put into the BBofG but as of today neither of us can remember what they were. I'm blaming the Woodford Reserve. He thinks it's the Limoncellos.
The reason we managed our way back to the old stomping grounds was to celebrate Sully’s wedding! The Old fashioned Man got hitched again. Being an Irish wedding the were all kinds of little leprechauns running around. Grandkids, nieces nephews, parents, uncles – they were all over the place. You couldn't go two feet without bumping into some potato refugee.
He arranged to have the party at a local Country Club and brought in a guy with a mobile pizza oven. We were noshing down all kinds of pies while consuming adult beverages.
There was one gaffe though. When I went in around 1:30 there was no TV on. Whaaaaat? The Lions had taken the lead on Philly and no one had bothered to set up a viewing area.
I quickly rectified that oversight. I turned on the TV, moved various flowers that were blocking the view, turned my seat so I could get the best angle and watched the game.
As the game wore down, more and more people were gathering by the TV until with 2 minutes to go a pretty good crowd had gathered round.
Perhaps it was the luck of having so many Irish in one spot but the Lions (in particular Darius Slay) forced two turnovers on the last two Eagle drives to win the game.

San Diego found another way to lose a game - have the holder botch the snap Another NFL win for the BBofG. I took the Lions getting 3.5
Overall the BBofG went below .500 again on the college games going 24-30-0. That makes every week this year- tough to do.

Maryland -1.0 @ Penn State - Just kind of threw that one out there at the last minute. Really bad pick.
thought Maryland would gash the Nits rush defense but it was Penn State pounding the Terps. Penn State ran for 372 yards in an easy 38-14 win.
The Wolfman says that I'm two weeks early in my prediction for the demise of Franklin. All I know is I'm not picking against Penn State again. LOSS
San Diego +4.0 @ Oakland - Sometimes you just have to take the points. San Diego was lining up to kick a winning FG down 34-31. This is one of those fun times when you actually root against the team you've been backing all game. San Diego was withing the spread but if they make the FG, it could force OT and a chance to lose it by a TD.
The Bolts line up and.......bobble the snap....they don't even get the kick off! Perfect. The Chargers, who blew a 24-16 lead in the third quarter end up losing 34-31 but getting the cover WIN
And with a Mini Mega win on San Diego State I ended up with a small profit on the weekend. Going to spend more time on the bounce back / fade scenarios this weekend. They were paying off. No more last minute winging it.

Overall the BBofG went below .500 again on the college games going 24-30-0. That makes every week this year- tough to do.
