Expectations can turn on a dime. Prior to Saturday, there were still thoughts of challenging for the Big 10 title and a New Years Day Bowl. Afterwards? What is the path to bowl eligibility?
During the game, Bruce was mildly obnoxious, an improvement for him. What wasn’t improved was our ability to stop Thorson. I swear, he must be on his sixth year of eligibility - all wins for the Cats.
After we came back to take a lead you just knew he was going to dink and dunk his way for a Cats winning score. He did and they did. Very frustrating.
So where does that leave us? Injuries have finally caught up to us. The line was a question coming into the season and the answer is - is it’s a huge liability. The WR corp is down to just Felton Davis, the TEs are incapable of catching the ball and the punting game is using walkons.

The good news is the defense still shuts down the run and the pass defense, while having the occasional blunder, and outside of Thorson, makes stops.
The D will keep us in games and, if and when LJ, Cody comes back, and Lewerke uses his feet more we have a punchers chance. If that beautiful option pitch wasn’t called back as a forward pass (it was, barely) then we might have won that game after all.
Jason and I were talking tonight about the rest of the schedule. Penn State is a revenge game, in their crib, coming off a bye. It could get ugly. Ohio State will look to the Penn State score and try and outdo it. I don’t even want to think about last year.
That leaves scUM, where we always play fired up, Nebraska, Maryland (GO JUMBO!!), Rutgers and Purdue to get 3-4 wins. Doable but a huge letdown from preseason expectations. Rack it up to lots of injuries, not bad chemistry like in 2016.
And no, it’s not OC Dave Warner fault. He’s doing the best he can with a line that can run or pass block. What plays do you expect him to call? If you are blaming Warner, I’ll never say put down the bourbon, but at least watch the games. Revers option pass for a TD? Pretty creative. I'll fault him for leaving Felton in too long but not about the play calling. That's lame.

Later that afternoon, with the family, down in Ruby Falls, a semblance of peace began to return. Worth the trip if you ever get the chance.
When I returned to the surface I checked on my picks. Not bad. For the weekend I was 12-9-2 on wagered picks. But with a Mega Bet loss and Mini Mega loss it was still a losing weekend. Went with too many large favorites on the road, think North Texas, Fresno State and Ohio.
I may still just forgo Mega Bets and go peanut butter with the picks for GO JUMBO.
But what is the fun in that?
Remember the GO JUMBO trip is Nov 3rd (four Satrudays away) at the Westgate SuperBook
AND DON”T FORGET YOUR DRINK COUPONS!
