Week 3 Recap - What world is this?

PictureKansas is good in football? Sure seems like it
What strange world are we living in? Rutgers and Kansas are 3-0? OK Rutgers started out last year 3-0 before finishing 5-8. But Kansas? They are 23-118 over the last 13 years. That’s less than 2 wins per year.

And now they have three wins already, and not just cupcakes, but over West Virginia and Houston. I got on the bandwagon early. Not too late for you.

Next up, another 3-0 basketball school - Duke.

Three weeks in and we already have a second HC firing. Herm “That’s why you play the game” got the ziggy after losing to Eastern Michigan despite being 20 points favorite (costing me a parlay too). NCAA investigations didn’t help but they have been going on for awhile. Nope, lose to the Hurons and you better pack your bags.

PictureNick Singleton has revived the Penn State ground game
Likely replacements? Fans will bandy about Matt Campbell but he’s not coming into this mess. Matt Rhule, if he gets canned at Carolina, former Fork assistant Kenny Dillingham, OC Oregon and Alex Grinch, DC USC - their agents are taking your calls.

Who next up on the hot seat? I’ll go with Bryan Harsin at Auburn. In two weeks they will get blown out by Georgia. The Tigers could well have an interim head coach the following day.

Penn State greased the rails out of town for Harsin with a dominant 41-12 win on the Plains. The lines dominated, allowing no sacks while generating six. The run game is back behind Fr. RB Nick Singleton  The Nits will likely be 5-0 by the time the face scUM. Get ready for Game Day in Ann Arbor on Oct 15.

Game Day brought a miracle to Boone NC. App State was all but dead and then this

That one didn’t cost me a quatloo but the Purdue ending did

PictureI'll give credit where credit is due - 5 TDs for Nix
Uggh – pick six, missed FG and last second loss.

The Top 10 teams took care of business. Every team won by double digits. The Cupcake portion of the season is quickly coming to an end though.

Ten was a hard cutoff. Numbers 11 (yeah that was us), 12 and 13 all lost.

I’ve been on Bo Nix’s case all season but I’ll give credit where credit is due. He threw for 2TDs and ran for three more in Oregon’s 41-20 home win over #12 BYU. BYU is a much tougher out in Provo than on the road – right Baylor.

Haven’t heard much from the Sheriff lately. Maybe he is still in mourning over the near miss against Notre Dame. Domer fans actually celebrated three times at the end of the game. As Cal was trying for a late game tying TD, first QB Jack Plummer was intercepted (overturned by targeting). Then, he fumbled which turned into a scoop six (overturned because his knee was down before the fumble). And then this

PictureNorth Dakota State was spilled by Arizona.

Marcus Freeman finally gets a win

Is Arizona for real? They were 1-23 the last two seasons, arguably the worst Power 5 team claiming to play football. They started the season by ruining San Diego State’s new stadium grand opening (what is wrong with the Spaztecs by the way), battled Mississippi State hard in a close loss and then beat defending Div1AA champion North Dakota State.

Arizona is the first Div 1A school to beat NDSU since 2009.

Is Georgia even better this year than last? Last year they beat Clemson, UAB and South Carolina by a combined score of 106-23. This year, they have beaten Oregon, Samford and South Carolina by a combined  score of 130-10. A very late TD by the Cocks in the only TD allowed this season.

With Kent State, Mizzou, Auburn and Vandy up next, the stats are going to get jacked before cocktailing against Florida on GO JUMBO weekend.

Which is Oct 29th at the Westgate SuperBook.

Great recap Dave! I’m on board with the craziness of KU starting out 3-0, 2 of which by solid teams. I’ve been saying since week one that Georgia is even better than they were last year. It’s going to take a lot to have them not repeat this year. Looking forward to your calls on this weeks games.
