First Down????
The Bowl games continue to amaze. From the bizarre call in the Michigan game (more on that later) to Louisville’s stunning upset of Florida - this year’s bowl season has been chock full of entertaining games.
Of course, it’s even more fun when the Mega Bets are winning. They have been on a good run lately with:
Week 18 Part 6 Recap
Northwestern -1.0 over Mississippi State – The New year got off to a great start. Bruce came over to watch our Wildcats try to win a bowl for the first time since Harry Truman was in office. We barely had time to get our beverages before the Cats started off the game with a pick six! It was to be the first of four Northwestern heists.
The last pick sealed the game when they returned to the other MSU’s 15 yard line and punched it in to take a 34-20 lead. After the game Bruce and I partied like it was 1949 WIN

Another Wildcat INT!!
Georgia -9.0 vs Nebraska – As Bruce, Mrs. Bruce and the Sax Man downing some brews next to me, I was rooting against Georgia but figured if the Dawgs were going to win they better win big. The worst outcome would be a narrow Georgia win.
The first half was a high scoring affair and after 30 minutes the Huskers led 24-23 behind two Aaron Murray INTs including a pick six. Nebraska opened the second half with a nice 75 yard scoring drive to extend the lead to 31-23. But Aaron Murray took over from there. Murray threw for three TDs on the next four drives to put the Cornhuskers away 45-31 WIN

We partied like it was 1949 - or was it 1943?
Stanford -5.0 vs Wisconsin – The Grandaddy of them all was an 'Ol timey slug fest. Wisconsin HC Barry Alvarez returned to the sidelines seven years after hanging up his whistle and the Badgers looked like the old Barry teams.
In the first half Bucky was gashing Stanford for 119 yards between the tackles. Monte Ball scored a record 83rd touchdown and became the first player ever to score a TD in three different Rose Bowls. But it was the Cardinal hanging onto a slim 17-14 lead after two quarters.
Both defenses made adjustments and tightened up the screws in the second half. The two teams combined for a total of three first downs in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter Stanford managed to get a FG extended their lead to 6 points – and more importantly giving the Doofus a narrow cover. It also set up another classic ending.
With 4:23 left, Wiscy got the ball at their 25 and started one of their patented ground hugging drives. Crossing into Stanford territory, Badger QB Curt Phillips dropped back on 2nd and 5 and tossed a pick. Stanford ran out the clock preserving a 20-14 WIN
That made the Mega Bets 3-0 on the day. The Mini Megas gave a little back going 0-1-1

Spurriered
South Carolina -5.0 vs Michigan – This game brought a new Lexicon to College Football. With Michigan hanging onto to a narrow 22-21 lead they went with a fake punt that was just short or was it - First Down?? It was the most ridiculous first down call ever. And man did it piss off Gamecocks as they Clownied Michigan on the next play. The whole house erupted. It was they play of the bowl season!!
South Carolina went on to score a TD. Thinking I would get my cover with the extra point, Mrs. Bruce turned to me and said – you realize they are going to go for two – right? Crap she was right – they needed to get up by seven. The Cocks drop back and throw an incompletion. Crap – I got Spurriered. Final score – Cocks 33 scUM 28 TIE
Purdue vs Oklahoma State under 68 - I took the under figuring that if OK State was blowing away the Boilers they would call off the dogs well short of 68 points. Boy, was I wrong. Up 38-0 late in the third quarter the Cowboys were still winging it through the air. A 37 yard pass put them up 45-0 with 5 minutes left in the 3rd. Purdue didn’t help things with a fumble on their on their 37 which OK State took back for another TD making it 55-0 to start the 4th quarter
And it was the Boilers who ultimately screwed the under by scoring a meaningless TD with 3 minutes left to make the final score 58-14 LOSS
Week 18 Part 7 Mega Bet
Oregon vs Kansas State over 74.0 - On the morning of Nov. 17th these teams were neaded to the national championship game. By nighfall they were headed to this game as they both lost. Oregon lost in a great game to Stanford while KSU was getting blown out by Baylor.
I wasn't quite sure which team to take in this game with the spread dropping to Oregon -7.0 (it got as high as Ducks -9.5). Both these teams can score in the blink of an eye and a TD spread can come and go in a flash.
So why not take the over? 74 points can be a lot but Oregon averages 50.8 points per game (second in the nation behind La Tech) while KSU averages 40.7 (10th overall). These teams are capable of getting most of the over by themselves.
The defenses are nothing special allowing 22 and 21.1 points per game respectively. With the weather not expected to affect the game - its going to be 60 with a slight breeze - it should be a back and forth game with lots of points.
