Hope everyone got what they wanted for Christmas
I hope everyone had a great Christmas. At the Doofus household there was plenty of opening presents. I got a great flag for the Doofus deck. Mrs. Doofus cooked up some great food and the family spent the rest of the day playing reindeer games.
And the football over the weekend was pretty good too. The Doofus kept the winning streak alive in Week 17 as:
Week 17 Recap:
Chicago -5.5 @ Arizona – Da Bears defense was phenomenal – keeping Arizona out of the end zone while scoring twice! In the first quarter Arizona RB Beanie Wells slipped, fumbled and the Bears recovered it for a TD. In the third quarter, Charles Tillman picked off the NFL’s worst QB Ryan Lindley and sprinted 36 yards into the end zone to put the game away. After the pick, Lindley was benched for former Spartan QB Brian Hoyer who was activated less than two weeks ago.
It was a good thing the Chicago defense was so good because Jay Cutler was awful early on – starting the game 1 for 11 passing. He ultimately ended up with just a bad game going 11 for 26 for 146 yards and 1 TD. Final score Chicago 28 Arizona 13. WIN
Carolina -8.0 vs Oakland – For the 10th straight year Oakland will be staying home for the playoffs. Even the Lions at least made the playoffs last year. The Raiders chances to win this game ended when Carson Palmer went out in the first quarter. In came Matt Leinart. Yup – he still sucks.
How bad was the Raider offense? To open the 3rd quarter, the Raiders recovered a muffed punt at the Panther 32 yard line and couldn’t even get a FG attempt. They went back to the 46 on penalties and tackles for losses. Another drive started at the Panther 18 after a pick. It took them 9 plays to get to the 13 – finally kicking a FG. But despite the Raider’s offensive ineptitidue the stay managed to stick around in the game. With that FG they cut the lead to 14-6 and put the game back at a push. Carolina finally got the cover with a 51 yard FG with 2:46 left to win 17-6 WIN

Did a Bears victory dance Sunday
Fresno State -11.5 vs SMU Hawaii Bowl – With a perfect picking weekend on the line, the last game of the weekend was an utter failure. SMU dominated Fresno State. The Mustang defense was outstanding as DL Margus Hunt forced two fumbles which led to FGs and sacked FSU QB Derek Carr for a safety. The SMU defense also had seven sacks and not one but two pick sixes.
SMU got up 22-0 at the half and cruised to an easy 43-10 win - resulting in one of the worst losses for the year for the Doofus LOSS
After 17 weeks the Mega Bets are now 30-20.
The Mini Megas once again were better than the Mega Bets going 3-0 with
UL Lafayette -4.5 vs East Carolina New Orleans Bowl – The Superdome was rocking as they fans got to see and exciting back and forth game. The two teams combined for over 1,000 yards of offense.
The Ragin’ Cajuns got out of gates first going up 14-0 on the second play of the second quarter. The second quarter was explosive with the teams combining for 45 points. ULL Hit a FG at the buzzer to take a 31-21 lead.
East Carolina was not done and rallied, finally cutting the lead to 37-34 early in the fourth quarter. But the defenses finally started getting the job done. ULL held ECU scoreless for the rest of the game while kicking 2 more FGs, including the clincher with 10 seconds left to win 43-34. Great game WIN
Indianapolis -6.5 @ Kansas City – Kansas City thoroughly dominated Indianapolis rushing for 352 yards and gaining over 500 yards in total. But the Chiefs still find a ways to lose. The primary way is having Brady Quinn at QB. He was awful going 10 for 22 and two picks – including a pick six in the first quarter.
The Chiefs hung tough though and tied the game at 13 all with 6 minutes to go in the third. Andrew Luck finally got on track (he was 1 for 13 during one stretch) and hit Reggie Wayne with the winning TD with 4 minutes left. Final score Colts 20 KC 13. With the loss KC became the first team ever to run for over 350 yards and still lose. WIN
New Orleans @ Dallas over 51.0 – Dallas WR Dez Bryant was great catching for 224 yards and 2 TDs. Tony Romo was great too throwing for 406 yards and 4 TDs. But Drew Brees was even better. He threw for 446 yards, 3 TDs and was an outstanding 11-19 on third downs. Four Saints had seven or more catches including Marques Colston with 10 catches for 153 yards.
With the Saints ahead 31-17 and 11 minutes left in the game I needed one more score to get the over Romo delivered throwing for 2 TDs in the last 3:35 tying the game at 31 all. Brees of course won it in OT Final score New Orleans 34 Dallas 31 WIN
The Mini Megas are now 14-4 on the season. Excellent!
To start the Week 18 picks I’ll go with:
Week 18 Part 1
UCLA vs Baylor Under 82.5 – The lines look about right for tonight’s games but just to make it interesting I’ll take a Mini Mega on the under. These teams are all about the offense ranking first (Baylor) and 20th (UCLA). In points scored Baylor is 5th with 44 and UCLA 30th with 35 scored per game. In points allowed Baylor is 117th allowing a pathetic 38 points per game. But here is why I lean towards the under - UCLA’s defense is about average ranking 55th allowing 26 points per game. Also, Bowl teams tend to be a little rusty after 405 weeks of lay off. To get the over there will need to be 3 TDs scored per quarter. For these teams that not that much but I think they will make just enough stops to get the under.
