Amazing Catch
Happy New Year!!
What a great bunch of games yesterday! And the Doofus was right on top of things going 2-0 on the Mega Bets with
Week 18 Part 5 Recap:
Vanderbilt -6.0 vs NC State – The Vandy defense was huge – forcing 5 turnovers (it was the fourth time NC State coughed u the ball at least 4 times in a game) scoring 17 points off the Wolfpack miscues.
Vandy opened the scoring with a Chris Boyd catch. It was originally ruled an incompletion but replay showed he made an amazing one handed catch. NC State outgained Vandy in the game 424 yards to 225. But the Dores made key stops and the turnover were too much for the Pack to overcome. Final score Vanderbilt 38 NC State 24 WIN
Tulsa +1.0 vs Iowa State – Iowa State scored two quick TDs on a pick six and 69 yard bomb to go up 17-7. But champions rally and Tulsa matched each TD with one of their own – and then just kept on going. Tulsa 24 unanswered points to win 31-17. Tulsa rushed for over 300 yards in the game in crushing the Cyclones and avenging their opening day loss. Amazingly, in that game Tulsa jumped to a 17-7 lead before succumbing 38-23. WIN
The Doofus went 1-1 with the Mini Megas with:

The Doofus went 1-1 with the Mini Megas with:
Vad "The Impaler" flew over the Trojans
Georgia Tech vs USC under 61 – The Wreck was fired up for this game thoroughly dominating the Trojans. The tech defense which used to be a sieve under former DC Al Groh was fantastic in holding USC to 98 yards rushing and forcing 3 turnovers. The triple option found huge holes up the middle piling up just under 300 yards rushing. This game was never in doubt as the Jackets rolled to a 21-7 WIN
LSU -6.0 vs Clemson – The best game was the last. As 2012 wound down to a close LSU and Clemson played a game for the ages. Both defenses were amazing especially the defensive lines. LSU opened the scoring - forcing a fumble on Clemson’s second play from scrimmage and knocking out star RB Sammy Watkins. Clemson countered with a TD on their next possession to tie the game 7 all.
The teams traded TDs in the second quarter but LSU blocked the Clemson extra point to maintain a 14-13 lead. The missed extra point would haunt Clemson until the very end of the game.
As in the first half – LSU got a quick TD off a 43 yard KO return (LSU special teams were outstanding) and 65 yard running play – taking a 21-13 lead. A FG by LSU midway through the third quarter gave the Bayou Bengals a 24-13 lead and the Doofus thought this game was looking pretty good.
But the Clemson defense was fantastic in the final stanza holding LSU to 2 three and outs and 1 yard. Clemson scored a FG to cut the lead to 24-16. Forced a three and out, scored a TD but missed the 2 point conversion to trail 24-22.
Another 3 and out set up the climatic final drive. Clemson got the ball at their own 20 with 2:39 left and all three timeouts. On the bench was a kicker who had made one FG all year but it was an SCC record 61 yarder. They also had the very accurate (16-17 on the year) Chandler Catazaro. But they need to get within the LSU 30 to give him a chance.
Tow incompletions and a sack later – all of a sudden Clemson was facing 4 and 16 at their own 14 yard line. Clemson QB Tajh Boyd then threw a great pass to WR DeAndre Hopkins for 26 yards and the Tigers had new life. Boyd reeled off four straight more completions getting the ball to the LSU 20 with 2 seconds left. Catanzaro’s kick was right down the middle and the Georgia Dome went nuts. Clemson 25 LSU 24
Great game too bad it resulted in a LOSS

It's Gooood!!
And to kick off the New Year the Doofus is going with
Stanford -5.0 vs Wisconsin – This game would be a much easier pick if Butthead Bielema was still in charge. But he left to further screw up Arkansas leaving Barry “Hot Tub” Alvarez on the sidelines. With Ohio State and Penn State ineligible – the Badgers backed into the BIG championship game where they blasted Nebraska 70-31. Don’t let the score fool you – its more a reflection on how Pelini is screwing up Nebraska
Stanford is everything Wisconsin used to be – great ground game and stifling defense. Stanford led the mation in tackles for loss with 120. Meanwhile Bucky had the worst redzone defense in the nation.
The Cardinal come in on a strong note having beaten Oregon, USC and back to back wins over UCLA.
Wisconsin is a shell of their former selves. Barry will tighten things up but it won’t be enough. This will be a low scoring tough game won by a late Stanford TD.
Georgia -9.0 vs Nebraska – Speaking of Nebraska screwing up – they face off a Georgia squad that was one play (or timeout – nice non call Richt) fron playing in the National Championship. They are going to take their frustration out on the Huskers.
Northwestern -1.0 over Mississippi State – Miss State has been overrated all year. The team that most resembles Northwestern in the SEC is Ole Miss. The Rebs defeated the Bulldogs 41-24 in the Egg Bowl. Expect a similar score here
I’ll go with Mini Megas on
South Carolina -5.0 vs Michigan – You wouldn’t actually think I would take the Blue did you? Of course not – the last time scum faced a quality SEC team they were getting blasted 41-14 by Alabama to open the season. It won’t be that big of a blow out (though one can only hope) but the Cocks will take care of business. Fun stat – scum threw the most INTs of bowl teams with 18.
Purdue vs Oklahoma State under 68.5 – Purdue doesn’t deserve to be in a bowl but the Cowboys have been misfiring on offense lately. Both teams will start out slow before the Pokes start putting up some points – just not enough to get to 68.5
