Took week 15 right up the butt!
I feel sorry for Dwink. That was a dramatic ending to the Army Navy game. For those of you who missed it (not sure how – it was the only game on Saturday) – for 10 straight years Navy has beaten Army and received the traditional high honor of singing second after the game. And for a while it looked like the Middies were going to have that right for a record 11th straight time. Navy took 7-0 lead midway through the second quarter but the Cadets kept fighting. The teams were going at it toe to toe with solid hits and tons of energy. As the first half ended Army hit a FG to tie the game 10-10.
Late in the third quarter Army hit a 21 yd FG to set up one of the most dramatic fourth quarters in a long time. Army opened the fourth quarter by driving all the way to the Navy 19 but was wide left on a 37yard FG attempt. Navy promptly went on an 80 yard, 3 minutes TD drive to take a 17-13 lead with 4:41 left.
Seeing how both teams run the triple option – it meant that Army would have only one more chance. And they were not to be stopped. The Cadets started at their own 14. 10 plays later they were 1st and 10 at the Navy 14 with 1 minute left. After 10 years Army was about to bring home the Commander in Chief trophy – the drought was nearly over. The place was rocking!
But it was not to be – the hand off was dropped and Navy recovered. Army QB Trent Steelman was in tears. Both the Army and Navy head coaches came over to console him. It had to be the worst he ever felt and probably ever will. Heart ripping and full of raw emotion. I don’t care who you were rooting for – your heart went out to Steelman and the rest of the Army team.
Made my face plant of picks last week pale in comparison. The week 15 picks were a 20 pound bag of elephant dung (now available as a fine coffee at a Starbucks near you!)

Best Helmets of the year!!
The Big Book of Guesses was absolutely horrid last week going a pathetic 4-11-1 (offset in only the smallest measure by going 2-0 on the over unders).
The Doofus is now in a full out tail spin. Last week I went 0-3 on the Mega Bets making it 1-5 for the last two weeks. Awful awful awful.
Week 15 Mega Bets recap:
Miami +10.0 @ San Francisco – Arrrrrrgh!!! Miami played San Fran tough as expected- but late in the fourth quarter Colin Kaepernick put his fist right up where my elephant don’t shine. SF was leading 16-10 with a little over 2 minutes to go and had the bled Miami of their time outs. The cover as looking good as the Niners were casually running the ball to use up the rest of the clock. But Nooooo – on third and 5 Kapernick executes a beautiful read option and sprints 50 yards to get the covering TD. Damn!
Colin was superb in the fourth quarter generating a scoring a perfect 100.0 in the fourth quarter.
My first delivery of turd was now squarely in my lap. It was actually to be the closest game of the three. Niners win 23-10 LOSS
Pittsburgh -7.0 vs San Diego – The last time San Diego won in Pittsburgh during the regular season? Make that would be never – until Sunday that is. Big Ben came back and looked like absolute dog crap. He went 22-42 for 285 yards but don’t let those stats fool you. Most of the yards came in garbage time after the Steelers trailed 34-10. San Diego was able to pressure the Steelers all game who looked like they were just going through the motions. Rivers meanwhile looked like an actual respectable NFL QB throwing for 200 yards and 3 TDs Final score - SD 34 Pittsburgh 24 but it was never that close LOSS
Houston +3.5 @ New England – The worst pick was the last. New England absolutely dominated the Texans. The opening minutes set the tone for the night. The Pats first drive was methodical as they drove 50 yards to set up a first and goal at the Houston 4. The Pats fumble! Yes! But the Texans muff the recovery and New England still has the ball. Brady throws and easy TD on the next play (Houston was not ready at the snap and the TE was uncovered).
Houston then looked like they would get a tying TD as they drove to the NE 21. But Schaub inexplicably throws a pick to a double covered WR Andre Johnson. Arian Foster was wide open underneath and could have walked in for a TD but no - Schaub throws a pick. What should have been a 7-0 Texans lead was now 7-0 Pats with Brady having the ball.
Brady goes 80 yards in 5 plays to go up 14-0 and the rout was on. NE didn’t fail on 3rd down until they were up 21-0 midway through the 2nd quarter. A TD to open the second half put them up 28-0 and the game was all but over. Pats went on to win 42-14 Bad Bad LOSS
Interesting stat – since 2007 the Patriots are now 20-1 in the last four weeks of the season. Their only loss was to (who else) the Texans in 2009.
The Doofus is now in a full out tail spin. Last week I went 0-3 on the Mega Bets making it 1-5 for the last two weeks. Awful awful awful.

Beat Army in Naval code
Makes me want to sit back and drown my sorrows with The Worlds Most Expensive Whiskey Not going to happen though.
Tough week to digest as strategies that have been working for the most part all year turned sour. Take a favorite to cover against a team playing out the string (Pitt over SD) fail
Take a huge underdog playing pretty good – especially on defense (Miami vs SF) fail
Take a strong 3.5+ underdog to cover (Houston @ NE) fail
Hopefully it was just one of those weeks.
Not going to change a winning strategy yet – So here are the
Week 16 Mega Bets
Arizona vs Nevada over 76.0 – Both bowl game spreads are about right and I’m not going to chance a Mega bet on any of the teams covering. But just to have fun I will take one on this game to go over. Betting overs are fun. Whoever has the ball – GO BABY! And bring on those pick sixes and turnovers on the other teams doorstep. Overtime? Sure! These teams are identical – all offense – no defense . But what do you expect from a DickRod team? These teams have the nation’s number 1 (Arizona’s Ka’ Deem Carey) and number 2 (Nevada’s Stefphon Jefferson) leading rushers. Should be a fun game.
Tampa Bay @ New Orleans over 53.5 – The NFL’s version of New Mexico Bowl. These teams are all offense and no defense. 53.5 is a ton of points but back in week 7 these teams combined for 63 points so it doable. On average Tampa Bay allows 24 points while New Orleans lets up 29 os combines 53 is an average day at the park. It’s the Holiday Season – these defenses will be generous. Let those points roll!
Denver -2.5@ Baltimore – Here’s a stat for you – Baltimore has never beaten Peyton Manning. Peyton is 8-0 against Baltimore straight up and against the spread. Ans that was when Baltimore’s defense was good. Not so much now. Age and injuries are taking their toll on the Ravens defense. They rank 24th in yards allowed and 11th in points allowed. Denver’s D ranks 4th in both categories. Baltimore was stunned by Kirk Cousins in OT last week. Peyton will put away a reeling Baltimore.
And here are all this weeks times, spreads, picks and more.
