The Doofus Daughter hosted a great party!
The Doofus Daughter's football party was another rousing success. The early games were not received well in the household when Georgia Tech and Auburn went down in flames but with the Spartans made a bowl eligible win which took a lot of sting out of the afternoon.
Mark stopped by to rub in the Irish recent success and to remind me that his 27th level Knights of Columbus position not only gets the wine sampler for Communion but also the box lunch in place of the wafer. Nice. Mark left with the promise that if the Irish win the National championship he can hang an ND flag on the Doofus deck. Not in a position of honor mind you. Probably off in a corner next to Ellis’ midget UNC banner.
The crowd slowly grew as the day wore on until the place was packed for the Irish USC game. Chris rushed home from Indiana in time to watch his Trojans , the propane heater was lit and we sat back to watch a classic Mega Bet game.

The Doofus picks have been on fire this season
Week 13 Mega Bet Recap
Notre Dame -5.5 @ USC – the Irish quickly got on top leading 10-0 by the end of the first quarter . The teams traded points until USC trailed 22-13 with 2:30 left. A bomb had USC first and goal at the 2. The Irish stuffed 3 straight running plays for no gain and a fourth down pass was incomplete preserving the Irish victory and a cover for the Doofus WIN
Rutgers +1.0 @ Pitt – Rutgers’ pathetic offense finally caught up with them. The game went basically –Rutgers 3 and out from deep on their side of the field, punt to give Pitt good field position. Most times Rutgers was able to stop Pitt and get the ball back deep in their half of the field and repeat . But every so often Pitt would get a score. This game was never in doubt as the Panthers won 27-6. . Upside is that it shuts Dobby up for a little while. In the lowly Big Least, Rutgers still won the title when Louisville was upset by UConn. LOSS
San Francisco @ New Orleans over 49.0 – This game started out like it was going to be an average scoring game as the Saints led 14-7 late in the second quarter. Then all hell broke loose. The next 5 drives went Niner pick 6; New Orleans half; Niners opening secod half drive TD; Niner pick 6 (Pick sixes are an overs best friend) and finally Saints TD. By the middle of the third quarter the total was right at the number with SF leading 28-21. All I needed was one more score. And I got it! San Francisco started at the own 4 yard line and in a beautiful 9 ½ minute drive went 84 yards and kicked a FG. Over. San Fran kept the pressure on missing one FG and having another blocked but it didn’t matter. Final score 31-21 WIN
That makes yet another 2-1 week for the Doofus Mega Bets. The ninth such week out of 12 this year and bringing the season record to 25-14. Very nice.
The Mini Megas had an even better week going 3-0 with
UL Monroe -5.0 @ Florida International – I had to win this game twice. Late in the game ULM was in the victory formation burning off the last of the clock holding on to a 17-10 lead. But the morons fumbled on 3rd down setting up an FIU miracle. OK, well there is only a few secodns left - just keep them out of the end zone. It's not like they are going for a FG down by 7. The Panther QB then throws a bomb for a TD with 14 seconds left to tie the game. You idots! In OT, FIU’s opening drive FG was blocked. All right you boobs - you better not get a FG - go for the TD. They did, 15 yard TD pass winning 23-17 and getting the cover too. Can you get a win and still be pissed? Maybe WIN
San Diego State -7.0 @ Wyoming – SDSU overcame a 28-21 half time deficit – rolling for 400 yards on the ground and the pounded the Cowboys 42-28 WIN
St Louis +1.5 @ Arizona – This one was too easy. As predicted, Cardinal QB Ryan was horrible getting picked off 4 times including 2 pick sixes. Rams QB Sam Bradford added a pair of 37 TD passes and RB Steven Jackson chipped in for 137 rushing yards as St Louis destroyed Arizona 38-10 WIN
That brings the Mini Mega season record to 9-3 also very nice.
The Coaching Carousel has started. I’ll have my annual update after the all the hirings and firings are complete. So far, a couple of surprises. Purdue, did struggle this year. A dark horse to make it to the BIG championship game with Penn State and Ohio State ineligible – the Boilers ended up 6-6. But after getting bowl eligible and crushing your arch rival, HC Danny Hope was given his walking papers.
In another move I don’t ever recall happening before, NC State, already bowl eligible, beat Boston College. After the game both head coaches were fired.
Also looking for new leadership are Auburn (not unexpected), Colorado ( a hire the Doofus questioned from the beginning), and Tennessee. Kentucky moved quickly by hiring Mark Stoops, former DC at Florida State as HC. More to come.
And while some programs are in search mode, other are in championship mode as it’s Championship Week! Some very entertaining games on tap with the Doofus liking
Week 14 Mega Bets
Oklahoma State -4.5 @ Baylor – Most bettors are focusing on the over/under for the game. Vegas has set it at an incredible 86.5 – the highest anyone can remember. Both teams are expected to score so it will come down to who can make the most stops. The teams are about even on offense – both ranking in the top 5 but Baylor is the next to worst in the nation on defense. OSU is number 74. The Cowboys will make a couple more stops that the Bears in what should be a wildly entertaining game
Seattle +3.5 @ Chicago – Two good defensive teams go at it in what is expected to be a low scoring game. Chicago has been dinged up lately but Jay Cutler and Matt Forte are expected to lay. This has all the look of a FG game. I’ll take the 3.5.
Carolina -3.0 @ Kansas City – Cam Newton thrives when playing bad teams. Kansas City is a bad team. Last week he torched Philly’s defense for 289 yards through the air. He may not match that this week but he should be able to outgun KC QB Brady Quinn. Quinn is terrible. At some point the Chiefs are going to start worrying more about tee times than games. This may be the week.
For this weeks Mini Megas I’ll go with:
Cleveland – 1.5 @ Oakland – Oakland has already started playing out the strin – losing for three straight weeks by 21 or more points. Cleveland gained some confidence in last weeks upset of Pittsbugh
Jacksonville +6.0 @ Buffalo – The Jags are a much better team with Chad Henne under center rather than the putrid Blaine Gabbert. Henne usually starts out well with teams then fades as he starts to get attention. He is still on the upside of that curve.
Pitt – 6.0 @ South Florida – South Florida is another team playing out the string while Pitt is playing for a chance at a bowl. The Panthers have been on a roll lately just barely losing to ND in OT and with a win over Rutgers last week.
Notre Dame -5.5 @ USC – the Irish quickly got on top leading 10-0 by the end of the first quarter . The teams traded points until USC trailed 22-13 with 2:30 left.
