Wow!!!!
Wow!!!!
Bruce and I texted the exact same message at the exact same time. We were all geeked about the end of the Georgia Tech Georgia game.
Just like many others over the weekend it was great rivalry week game. Both teams made great plays and few they wish they could have back.
It was a game full of bizarre plays. There were three fumbles at the one yard line including a controversial strip six by Georgia, an excellent fake FG by the Dawgs, three blocked kicks and a botched kickoff return that Tech recovered.
Tech QB Justin Thomas appeared to have blown the game when he fumbled (Bruce says it was an incomplete pass) at the Georgia 17 with 2:41 left. Tech was leading 21-17 and a TD would have iced it.
The Dawgs took advantage of the turnover and drove for a TD with 18 seconds left. Dawgs take the lead 24-17. Depression was rampant throughout the Bee nation. Another blown opportunity. Last year, Tech lost in double OT and now this. Georgia had won 11 of the last twelve. How much more can a Wreck take?

Tech needed a miracle.
Georgia squibbed kicked it. HC Richt said he regretted that decision after the game. Tech returned it to the Tech 43. 12 seconds left.
Thomas drops back, gets pressured and scrambles to the Georgia 36. 4 seconds left. Paul Johnson decides to go for a 53 yard FG.
53 yard FG? Harrison Butker has great range but that is asking a lot. Ellis claims he made those but with all the meds he is on we have our doubts.
Butker lines up and ...... Its Goooooooood!!!!! What a kick!! It just cleared the crossbar. Tech fans erupt. Wow!!!!!
We’re going to overtime.
Tech gets the ball first and BWG Zach Laskey punches it in from the 2. Laskey was the star of the game running for 140 yards and 3 TDs. None bigger than this.
But Tech was in this position last year and blew it. The defense needs to hold.
Tech forces a 3rd and 5 at the 20 but Georgia QB Hurson Mason completes it to the Tech 10. First and goal. Crap!
A 1 yard run sets up 2 and goal from the 9. Mason drops back and PICK!!!. It’s a pick! DJ White picks it off! The Doofus household erupts! Tech wins it in OT.
The two plays are now cemented in Georgia Tech lore as The Kick and The Pick.

The Sax Man was at the game with his girlfriend a Dawg graduate. He said he was on his best behavior all the way home. Not saying a word but grinning silently.
The same could not be said for the Big Guy on his ride back from Tuscaloosa.
The game was a shoot out. A shoot out where the Tigers dominated the stat line. 628 yards for the Tigers to 539 for the Tide. Bama turned it over 3 times to 2 for Auburn. Auburn dominated the time of possession 33:56 to 26:06. If you quoted these stats before the game you would have predicted a huge Auburn win
And Auburn was pounding the Tide 36-27 late on the fourth. But then Bama uncorked perhaps the best WR in the game Amari Cooper.
It took one play to Cooper, a 75 yard TD strike, and the game was 36-34 Auburn.
Auburn needs to get that one back but on the ensuing drive QB Nick Marshall is picked and Bama returns it to the Tiger 31. Damn!
Two passes to Cooper set up a 2 yard TD plunge and the Tide retakes the lead 42-46.
Auburn punts on their first drive of the 4th quarter and Bama hits Cooper three more times, including a key 15 yard pass on third and 11, to set up a 6 yard TD pass to DeAndrew White pushing the lead to 48-36 with 8:05 left.
Auburn is down two scores but has the offense to pull this out. They drive to the Bama 14 but on 4th and 8 - they get 7.
Still there is 6:55 left. It will take some doing but the Tigers could still pull this off.
That is until Bama just punches it out on the ground. The Tide runs it six straight times and scores from 25 yards out to clinch it 55-36. Auburn got a meaningless TD to make the final 55-44.
Cooper was unstoppable as he tied the Tide receiving record with 224 yards and 3 TDs
The next day Auburn fired their DC Ellis Johnson after the Tigers let up five straight TD drives to Bama. The Tiger defense also let up 30 or more points in six straight SEC games. Johnson was toast before he even got on the bus ride home.
But the blame doesn't entirely fall on the defense. The offense left points on the table. The Tigers got into the red zone 7 times and came away with 5 FGs and only 2 TDs. Bama got 5 TDs on 5 trips to the red zone.

Michigan State was sitting pretty in the rankings after the Georgia loss. But if MSU South were to lose to Ole Miss it would cement a New Year’s Six Bowl game. And a Rebel win would keep two SEC teams from going to the playoffs.
The Big Book of Guesses had picked Mississippi State to cover but the Doofus was rooting for Ole Miss.
But it sounded like a tall order. Ole Miss had lost three straight Div 1A games, it’s QB was hurting and it’s top two WRs were out with leg injuries.
The Landshark defense would have to carry the day. And they did limiting the Bulldogs to under 200 yards in the first half for only the second time all year. The other time was in a loss to Bama.
QB Bo Wallace ran in from the one after hitting a 46 yard bomb as the Rebels had a 7-3 halftime lead.
Mississippi State looked like they were going to come out of their first half funk when they drove 62 yards for a TD early in the 3rd quarter to take a 10-7 lead.
But Hugh Freeze started going deep into his playbook and the Rebels scored on 4 of their next 5 possessions and iced the game 31-17.
To add insult to injury, the Mississippi State bus got into an accident shortly after leaving Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. Everyone was fine.

With the Rebel win, MSU is in the New Year's Six with the most likely spots, the Peach and Orange. Which one depends on which MSU ends up on top. If it's the Spartans they will likely be in the Orange against Georgia Tech. If it's the other MSU then State will head to the Peach and perhaps it will be an all MSU matchup. Stay tuned.
And the Rebel win will keep the playoffs to one SEC team. It was a bad day all around for the SEC as they went 0-4 against the ACC. Not only did Tech knock off Georgia but Florida State nipped Florida.
Jameis Winston kept shaving points by throwing 3 picks in the first quarter, leading to 9 Florida points.

The defense must have gotten tired of playing for Jameis' bookies because they responded with a pick 6.
Jameis then played along for a while as he hit for 2 TD passes on his next two drives to get the lead to 21-9 FSU. But the Seminole special teams decided to get in on the act as Florida blocked a punt and recovered on the FSU 15. One play later and it's a Florida TD. 21-16 FSU at the half.
Florida opens the 3rd quarter with a FG and its 21-19 FSU. The bookies are pleased. Jameis tries to give them some more breathing room by throwing his 4th interception but the defense wouldn't let the Gators score.
Jameis has to make sure he doesn't hit on a TD otherwise FSU will get the cover. So he does nothing for the rest of the game except a FG on their last meaningful drive. The defense held Florida scoreless and the final is FSU 24 Florida 19. The bookies will keep the money flowing.

Clemson came into their game against South Carolina riding a five game losing streak the Cocks. But the Tigers, led by three freshman, QB Deshaun Watson, RB Wayne Gallman and WR Artavius Scott trounced South Carolina.
Gallman ran for 191 yards and 1 TD. Scott had 185 yards receiving and 2 TDs while Watson threw for 269 yards and 2 TDs. The future looks bright for the Tigers.
Finally, ACC newcomer Louisville got into a dogfight with Kentucky. The slugfest started with a brawl between the Cardinals and Wildcats during warmups. It got so bad that HC Bobby Petrino was seen squaring off against Kentucky recruiting coach Dan Berezowitz (sounds Irish to me).
The slugfest continued through the game as these teams really went at it. Kentucky jumped to a 13-0 lead. Louisville responded by dominating the 2nd quarter with 3 straight TD drives sandwiched around a Kentucky pick 6. 21-20 Louisville at the half. Great game so far.
Louisville kept going in the 3rd quarter by scoring a TD on their first drive. Four drives. Four TDs and its 28-20 Louisville. Kentucky rounded out the 3rd quarter with a FG to make it 28-23.
It set up some real fireworks in the 4th quarter. Kentucky opened up the quarter with a FG and then scored on a scoop six to go ahead 33-28. Louisville responded with a TD and FG on their next two drives to retake the lead 38-33.
Kentucky scores a TD on their next possession - 40-38 Kentucky. This game is great!
Louisville responds with another TD to go up 45-40 2:47 left. C'mon Louisville - hold em. We need an ACC win.
Kentucky drives to the Cardinal 46, 4th and 10 and.....pick. DB Gerod Hollman picks it and returns it to the Kentucky 2. Half the Sportsbook is pissed. A pick 6 would have gotten the cover.
But Louisville looks like they may go for a TD with 0:35 seconds left. They run it to the right but RB Brandon Radcliffe dogs it and is tackled at the 1. Louisville wins but doesn't cover.
Still the win meant an ACC clean sweep of the SEC

Of course, no rivalry week would be complete without the pornography of Ohio State Michigan. I decided to pick against Ohio State in this game just because the points were too high. In the deep dark corners of the Doofus’ alcohol infused cranium, I was hoping for injuries.
But not like this. Precocious Freshman QB JT Barrett went down with a season ending broken ankle. Barrett went down on the first play of the fourth quarter with the BuckNuts leading 28-21.
On the next OSU drive, Ezekial Elliot sprinted in from 44 yards out to push the lead to 35-21. Michigan still had the cover though.
That is until on the next drive when Devin Gardner gets stripped sacked and OSU scoop sixes the ball. Damn, don’t tell me I have been pretending to root for Michigan and they are going to blow the cover anyway.
Nope – with 1:15 left in the game Gardner hits the Canteen for a 3 yard meaningless TD pass to make the final OSU 42 Michigan 28.
I started texting as to how long will Hoke survive. Most guesses came in the next couple of days.

Strangely, Hoke outlasted Nebraska HC Bo Pelini, Pelini actually won his game. Down seventeen points and staring at a 3rd straight loss the Huskers rallied and forced OT when Kicker Drew Brown hit a FG at the buzzer.
In OT Iowa, got a FG but Nebraska got a TD to win 37-31. The win upped Nebraska’s record to 9-3. With a chance to have his 4th ten win season in five years, Pelini returned home only to get canned. Ouch.
Be careful what you wish for Nebraska. If you think coaches in today’s environment of more parity, want to go somewhere without a fertile recruiting base, needing to win more than 10 games every year – think again. You’re not going to get an established coach to do that. Everyone is going to want to be the guy after that guy.

Pelini's weekend may have sucked but the Doofus and family had a great time. Jason hosted two great parties chock full of food, beverages, board games and most important - football. Three TVs were set up and all were needed for all the action.
When it was all said and done the Big Book of Guesses had one too many cranberries going 34-39-3 but the Doofus went home stuffed and satisfied with a 2-1 record with:

Detroit -7.0 vs Chicago - Jason was cooking up a feast in the kitchen so I took his favorite spot on the sofa and barked out updates.
They first few updates were not family friendly. Detroit looked like the same old Lions spotting the Bears a 14-3 lead. After a Stafford strip sack to set up the Bears second TD, I let out some epitaphs that I thought were under my breath. Mrs Doofus disagreed with my volume assessment in addition to the choice of descriptors.
But the language soon returned to something much nicer as the Lions unleashed MegaTron. Calvin was phenomenal after the first quarter, going off for 146 yards and 2 TDs. The Bears simply could not contain him.
And Joique Bell had a great game too rushing for 91 yards and two more TDs. The Lions defense was excellent too holding Chicago to 13 yards rushing - the least ever on Thanksgiving Day.
By the time the turkey was done the Lions had won 34-17 WIN
Arizona -2.5 @ Atlanta - Patrick Peterson called out Julio Jones during the week claiming he won a majority of their battles going back to their SEC days. Bad Move. Ryan and Jones abused Peterson all day as Jones caught 10 passes for 189 yards with 1 TD while Ryan threw for a total 361 yards and 2 TDs.
And when they weren't torching Peterson, RB Steven Jackson was slicing through the Cardinal defense for 101 yards.
The Arizona offense continues to struggle as they rushed for only 35 yards. That makes for a total of 138 yards over the last three weeks. And Arizona turned it over 3 times to boot.
The Cardinals were never in it as the lost 29 -18 LOSS
The Cardinals still lead the NFC West but Seattle and San Francisco smell blood in the water

Michigan State -13.5 @ Penn State - Happy Valley was pumped. It was Senior Day. They were bowl eligible for the first time since getting caught with little boys in showers.
PSU wins the toss and defers relying on their top ranked defense to get the ball back. The Lions kick off and..... RJ Shelton takes it to the house.
Take that pedophiles!
This game was a blow out from the start. The Spartans kept their foot on the gas as they rolled to a 27-3 lead late in the 3rd quarter.
Penn State got a TD to end the 3rd quarter to cut the lead to 27-10 putting the cover in a bit of jeapordy but when PSU turned it over on downs late in the 4th quarter, MSU jammed it down their throats for a TD to make the final score 34-10. WIN
Jeremy Langford kept his nations best 100 yard rushing streak going with 118 yards and 2 TDs.
And while the Doofus had his third straight winning week (going 7-2) it was another 1-2 result for the Sheriff as
UCLA (-5) over Stanford – Stanford played its best game of the year. QB Kevin Hogan passed for 234 yards and 2 TDs and the Cardinal reeled off 436 total yards as they crushed UCLA 31-10. UCLA actually led the game 10-7 early in the 2nd quarter but Stanford scored 24 unanswered. UCLA HC Joim Mora is now 0-6 against Stanford and Oregon. LOSS
Cal (-4) over BYU – It was one of the better games of the weekend. Cal and BYU went back and forth with neither team having more than a one score lead.
The scoreboard showed it 28 all with a little more than 2 minutes left in the game when BYU QB hit for his 5th TD. Cal got the ball back and drive to the BYU 14, 4th and goal. But the pass fell incomplete and the Cougars held on to win 42-35. LOSS
USC (-7) over Notre Dame – USC QB Cody Kessler took out his frustrations from last week by blasting the hapless ND defense. Kessler threw for 372 yards and an incredible 6 TDs ND was never in the game as USC sped to a 35-0 lead late in the second quarter. It was the first time ever a QB threw for 5 TDs in the first half against ND.
ND benched starting QB Everett Golson for sophomore Malik Zaire. It was too little too late. Zaire ran in from 11 yards out to cut the halftime lead to 35-7 but USC continued to dominate in the second half winning 49-14 WIN
