Mrs Doofus cooked up some real fine turkey!!
Happy Thanksgiving! I hope everyone had a great holiday with family, food and of course FOOTBALL!!
It’s also rivalry week with plenty of good old fashioned hate your neighbors and co workers games. And the Doofus Deck will be rocking again this Saturday as I was forced to use a ruse to get the OK for another party. Knowing that my allotted number of parties was already past the max for the year, I asked a visiting Doofus Daughter to ask the Mrs. for permission. It worked and we are on for another great time.
And last week’s games set up some very interesting matchups for this week. Starting with some of the Mega Bet games
Week 12 Mega Bets:
Ohio State +2.5 @ Wisconsin – This one looked like easy pickings as the Bucknuts jumped out to a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter. But Wiscy rallied to cut the lead to 14-7. Then with 8 seconds left in the game they tied it forcing OT. OSU scored a TD, Wiscy went 4 and out and the Buckeyes won 21-14 WIN
Rutgers +6.0 @ Cincinnati – Rutgers stuffed the Big East’s best offense – keeping them off the board until there was 11 seconds left in the game. Meanwhile, Ellis’ least favorite Scarlet Knight, Savon Huggins, rolled over the BearCat defense for 179 yards. Rutgers scored a TD on a 71 yard bomb in the second quarter and never looked back winning 10-3 WIN
Chicago @ San Francisco under 38.5 – Glad I got my pick in early since by the time the game kicked off the over/under had dropped to 34 as both starting QBs were out. San Francisco’s defense held up their end of the bargain by sacking backup Bear QB 6 times and limiting him to 107 yards passing. But what happened the Bear defense? Backup Niner QB Colin Kaepernick torched the Bears for 243 yards and 2 TDs. Late in the game looked it might still go under until the Niners scored a safety in the fourth quarter to take a 32-7 lead. That turned out to be the final score. Crap, lost by half a point on a safety. Double crap! LOSS

Two losses by half a point? Gut wrenching!
Yet another 2-1 week. That brings the Mega Bets record so far to 23-13!
The Mini Megas also went 2-1 as:
Wake Forest @ Notre Dame Under 42.0 – Prior to the game, Mark was giving me grief claiming that he had called in the Pope to blow up my Week 11 Mega Bet on ND. I believe him. After all, he is a 27th level Knight of Columbus with double black plumage - a position that allows him to use the priority line for Communion and his choice of wines (usually opting for the sampler platter). Well, last week he must have used his Papal pull to get the Irish into the MNC game. First, Baylor crushed number 1 Kansas State 52-24 and then Stanford stuffed Oregon Ducks 17-14 in OT. And just like that for the first time in 19 years, Notre Dame was back at number 1.
But even the Pope can’t get the over with the Irish. ND’s defense was its usual stout self limiting the Deacons to 209 yards. And the Irish had their best offensive output for the year erupting for 584 yards. The Irish looked like they might get the over when then went up 31-0 at the half but with the Holy See’s attention diverted to other games, ND ran out of gas winning by a final score of 38-0 WIN
Kent State +2.5 @ Bowling Green - An exciting back and forth game! KSU jumped to a 10-0 lead but Bowling Green rallied to take the lead 17-10 early in the third quarter. KSU then got its mojo back taking the lead 31-24 with 8:14 left in the game. The Falcons then drove all the way to the KSU 17 yard line. It was 4th and 13 – a pass to the endzone was picked and the Flashers held on to win and get the cover WIN
Central Florida +1.5 @ Tulsa – Tulsa nearly doubled the output of UCF gaining 462 yards to 235. But the UCF defense forced 2 turnovers and made just enough clutch plays to keep the game close. A late UCF TD cut the lead to the final score of 23 -21. Crap – my second loss of the week by half a point. I hate the hook. LOSS
That brings the Mini Mega record to 6-3
Will try to keep the winning streaks going with the
Week 13 Mega Bets:
Rutgers +1.0 @ Pitt – Let’s see, last week the best team in the Big east was getting points against the best offense in the Big east and shut them out for 58 minutes. This week, the best team in the Big East is going against a team that is not even bowl eligible and is getting points. Not sure why the odds makers don’t like Rutgers but I’ll keep riding the scarlet Knights until they prove me wrong. The defense has been outstanding giving up only 10 points in the last two games. In the bail out bowl (Rutgers is heading to the Big Ten and Pitt to the ACC) Rutgers will be focused on winning the Big East championship and get the win.
Notre Dame -5.5 @ USC – If Mark is going to get the Pope involved – I’ll ride those coattails. Notre Dame's defense was good enough to win this game by a TD even before USC QB Matt Barkley went down with an injured shoulder last week. Now the Trojans will try to win behind a freshman QB. USC’s defense has been suspect all year and should give up just enough points to an easily as suspect Irish offense to get the Irish (and the Pope) the cover.
San Francisco @ New Orleans Over 49.0 – If Colin Kaepernick can lead the Niners to 32 points over a pretty good Chicago defense imagine what he will do against New Orleans sieve D. But it takes two teams to score to get an over in the NFL – can the Saints put up their fair share against the Niners? Sure – in last year’s playoff game Drew Brees went for nearly 500 yards and 4 TDs – and that was in SF. He is even better in the Superdome.
And three more Mini Megas this week:
UL Monroe -5.0 @ Florida International – FIU has been a huge disappointment all year. The 28th best offense (ULM) faces the number 80 defense (FIU) and only spots 4 points. Sign me up
San Diego State -7.0 @ Wyoming –What got into the Spaztecs this year? They are actually pretty good and are now on a six game winning streak. Wyoming is on a win streak too – taking their last three but it has been against the dregs off Div 1A – Colorado St, New Mexico and UNLV. The teams are ranked pretty evenly in offense but it’s the defenses that set these teams apart. SDSU is ranked a above average 46th while Wyoming is horrible at 106th. The last time SDSU faced a defense this bad they rolled Hawaii for 52 points. Wyoming is only slightly better on defense the Hawaii.
St Louis +1.0 @ Arizona – Arizona tried to spark their offense by switching QBs last week going with rookie Ryan Lindley. He was just plain awful. Against a Falcon defense that has plenty of issues he went 9 for 20 and 64 yards. . How bad were the Arizona QBs? – try a 3.7 quarterback rating. Bruce could do as well. The Falcons turned the ball over 6 times and yet the Cardinals could only muster 19 points. Meanwhile, the line has overreacted to St Louis’ loss to the inept NY Jets last week. That was probably more due to the hangover from the Rams tie with San Francisco the week before and a look ahead to this divisional game. No way should the Arizona offense be giving points.
