I was with the Doofus Brothers celebrating the Mother of all Doofusses birthday when the Big Flippy commented “the Big Book of Guesses has been very quiet lately” Too quiet actually. Now it’s mainly due to there’s not much going on with football lately. Yeah, there’s the Julio trade and rumored Rodgers trade but this is the period when every training camp is blowing smoke about how good the rookies look, how some disappointing veterans are turning it around and the new head coaches are getting their players to buy into the new system. It’s all fairy and unicorn stories coming from the PR machines. Don’t believe it.
But the BBofG invests in more sports than just football. Woz and I have making more wagers than legos in the Special Edition Millennium Falcon model. We are investing in everything from NASCAR to the NBA to the PGA, even soccer. There's two great soccer tourneys on with the COPA and the Euro 2021!
Bruce has been pleading with me to bet on France. They’re going to dominate! The roster is just plain sick. He said ignore the fact the Surrender Monkies are in the proverbial Group of Death. Every World Cup and Euro tourney, there’s a Group that has way too many good teams. This year it’s Group F with France, Germany and Portugal, with Hungary thrown in as the sacrificial lamb. It’s the favorite, defending champ and #4 ranked team all in the same bracket.
Bruce was persuasive, I took France to win Group F as part of a parlay with England to win Group D and Spain to win Group E. It’s a good grouping though I was a bit nervous about lingering COVID concerns as well as the youth of the Spanish squad. Spain’s 0-0 tie with Sweden did nothing to allay those fears.

And while Bruce was persuasive, he was not entirely compelling. I hedged a bit and took France to make the Final Four rather than win it all. Perhaps I’m playing it a bit too safe. France beat Germany just down the street from the Beer Hall Putsch 1-0.
Nick wanted in on the Euro betting. So we went with our patented high quality adult beverage bet. We each drafted five teams to win it all, alternating our picks. Nick went first and, as always, took his Motherland Imperialists first. That left France for me. When it was all said and done, Nick went with England, Belgium, Portugal, Holland and the Rooskies. I took France, Italy, Germany, Spain and Sweden (for the cheerleaders). Should be an interesting wager. If none of our teams win, we both have to buy. Everyone wins!
I’m off to a great start with the soccer bets going 4-1. Tomorrow I have Belgium over Denmark, a parlay on Brazil over Peru and Colombia over Venezuela and a parlay on Ukraine over North Macedonia and Netherlands over Austria. Bruce wisely told me to never take Argentina in a meaningless contest. So I’ll avoid them until they face Brazil.
There’s more than Soccer going on the US Open tees off tomorrow. I’ve been doing Odds Boost parlays on players to make the cut. I’ve lost everyone because some moron double bogies the last hole and misses the cut by a stroke. This week the parlay was Dustin Johnson, Spieth, Rahm and Finau to make the cut. I know BBofG fans love analytics so I did some checking to see who was this weeks moron.
The US Open is being played at Torrey Pines. The Farmers Open is played there every January so I checked to see who does well at the farmers Open. Here’s what I found looking back three years and comparing to the odds for the US Open

\y original thought was that Finau would be the moron of the week but he actually does quite well at Torrey Pines. It’s Spieth who looks to screw up and miss the cut. So based on the analysis I took Finau, Reed, Rahm, Leishman and Homa to make the cut. I also took Spieth to not make the cut.
Nick wanted in on this one too taking Rahm, Zalatoris, Kokrak, Matsuyama and Burns to make the cut. I nearly fell over when he said he was taking Rory to miss the cut. Gutsy call but I get it. Rory has been off lately. And be careful with Scottie Scheffler, he struggles at Torrey Pines.
So much more going on too including NASCAR and – what is going on with the Atlanta Hawks?? Wow!
Remember the 2021 GO JUMBO trip is November 13, 2021 at the Westgate SuperBook. Looks like we are going to have stellar attendance this year!
And don't forget your drink coupons
