This is going to be an interesting week. Not just because there are some good games (more on that in a second) but because – Is the Doofus really this good?
Naaaah, Not really, I’ve gotten some breaks and they are going to turn. But it would be nice to have another winning week.
First, some thoughts and picks on the good games for the week
Clemson -3.0 @ Louisville – Lamar Jackson jumped to the front of the Heisman list last year in last year’s 42-36 loss. He wants revenge and another Heisman. He won’t get either.
Clemson defense is the real deal. They just manhandled a pretty good Auburn offense and will keep Jackson under wraps this year.
I’ll take the Tigers for a Mini Mega
Mississippi State +8.5 vs LSU – 23-20; 21-19; 34-29. That’s the scores from the last three years. These two play tough, tight, low scoring games. Expect the same this year.
Getting more than a TD at home? I’ll take the Bulldogs and put it on a Point Whore Parlay.
Tennessee +4.5 @ Florida – It’s the Hot Seat Bowl. Both Tennessee’s HC Butch Jones and Florida’s Jim McElwain are feeling the heat from the Alumni.
Tough to tell how this will go so I’ll take the points. At least Tennessee has an offense. Put me down for a quatloo.

Texas +15.5 @ Southern Cal – The last time these two met it was an epic win by the Horns to win the National Championship in 2006. This game would have a lot more at stake if Texas hadn’t gaffed against Maryland to open the season.
But the Horns figured out their offense in blowing out San Jose State last week 56-0. The Trojans have won 11 straight. Make it 12 but not quite 2 TDS. No quatloos though.
Kansas State +4.0 vs Vanderbilt –Both teams are 2-0 but neither has faced a quality opponent. Vandy has probably the best win in beating Middle Tenn State, a team that went on to beat Syracuse. But that’s it.
So the stats so far are misleading. I trust Kansas State in this one more than Vandy getting 4 at home. The Sax Man. Saxy Lady and Big Guy plan on being at the game. I’ll think they will need to drown their sorrows on Broadway. No quatloos
Cal +3.5 vs Ole Miss – The Sheriff likes Cal catching points at home. I worry about the Bears losing Sr RB Tre Watson for the season
Still, rooting for the Cheatin’ Rebs is appalling so I’ll go with the Bears. No quatloos though.

For this weeks Mega Bets I’ll go with:
Oklahoma State -12.5 @ Pitt – I hate rooting against Narduzzi but his team doesn’t have it this year. It struggled against Youngstown State and fell flat against Penn State last week
Oklahoma State’s season ending Bedlam game against Oklahoma might be for a playoff game this year. The Pokes offense is that good. Far more than the Panthers can keep pace with.
Iowa State -9.5 @ Akron – The Cyclones are looking to get the bitter taste of last week’s OT lost to hated rival Iowa out of their mouths. ISU’s offense is clicking generating over 400 yards of offense in its last 4 games. That will be too much for an Akron team that lost 52-0 to Penn State in week 1. Make that 5 straight games.

Tennessee -2.0 @ Jacksonville – Jacksonville won't record ten sacks again like they did last week. The Titans OL is too good and Mariota is too mobile. My fantasy team is going to take a hit. I have Jax’s Fournette as my 2nd RB. Tennessee will be able to focus on stopping him since QB Blake Bortle’s is a complete joke
Oh, and it’s a revenge game for the Titans. The Jags knocked them out of the playoffs last year and injured Mariota in the process. The Sax Man, Saxy Lady and Big Guy will be able to sober up to a nice NFL win.
To round out the Point Whore Parlay with Mississippi State I’ll go with:
San Jose State +26.5 vs Utah – Like Northwestern, Utah just doesn’t blow teams out. I could find only two wins over Div 1A teams more than 24 points over the last 5 years. The other Spartans hang around and get a back door cover.
Tulane +35.0 vs Oklahoma – Tulane has just enough defense to not get totally blown out over an unfocused Sooner squad still celebrating the win over Ohio State.
I’ll lay a couple more Mini Megas with
La Tech +7.0 @ Western Kentucky – both these teams have taken a step back this year. La Tech will straighten out its turnover problem and keep this an exciting game
Cleveland +8.0 vs Baltimore – Cleveland is bad but not that bad. Baltimore is a bit overrated after shutting out an inept Cincinnati offense.
Eagles +5.5 vs Kansas City – KC is getting way too much love after beating New England in their crib. Eagles still flying under the radar. I’ll take the points at home
The Sheriff is hoping to right the ship with these picks
Cal (+3.5) vs Ole Miss. The Sheriff is taking his beloved Golden Bears to upset the Rebels Saturday night in Berkeley. Cal appears to be playing defense under new HC Justin Wilcox and has found another worthy QB in sophomore Ross Bowers. This will be the culture clash of the College football season (conservative SEC team from the deep south invades liberal Berkeley). Should be fun.
Purdue (+7.5) @ Missouri. Purdue gave Louisville all it could handle in Week 1, and new HC Jeff Brohm appears to have the team from West Lafayette headed in the right direction. Missouri fired its DC after two games and is headed in the other direction. Look for the Boilermakers to pull off the upset.
UCLA (-3) @ Memphis. This is a trap game for the Bruins but Jim Mora has a track record of winning his non-conference games and Josh Rosen is playing like the QB he was in his freshman year. UCLA will fly into Memphis on Thursday night so that they will be acclimated for the 9:00 AM kickoff on Saturday morning. Bruins win and go 3-0.
