It was finally here - The Super Bowl. Actually, A rather melancholy day. Full of excitement for the biggest football game of the year but tempered by knowing it would be the last football game of the season.
As Dobby corrected me at the party – it’s not the last game of the year. There will be plenty of game starting in September. But this was to be the last game of the season. Lawyers are so precise.
I went to Chris’ party slightly worried that there would be enough for my ravenous horde. My worries were misplaced. There was tons of food. He was a carving station short of a Vegas Buffet! Try as they might the neighborhood could only put a small dent in the spread.
Shortly after arriving, Chris poured me some of his home made brew (a sweet IPA) and introduced me to his co-worker Stuart. Turns out, during the ice storms a couple of weeks back, Stuart and Chris left work early stopping
by the Tilted Kilt ( a local chain of ale houses known for hiring a buxomly wait staff) so as to let the roads clear. Six hours later Chris decided to not venture any further home and spent the night at Stuart a couple of miles away –
where the party continued. Now that is an excellent emergency evacuation plan! I will be adopting it in case of emergencies too. I might even need to have a few trial runs.

The gang, kids and spouses then gathered around various TVs to watch the Big Game. As expected, pretty much everyone was rooting for the Broncos except me. I was to be the outcast for the night.
“Why are you going for Seattle”?? I told ‘em about my stats on the defenses winning, strength of schedule even my prop bet I made in Vegas on Seattle winning it all. Didn’t matter, I was going to be shunned. The only stat that seemed to catch everyone’s attention was the one where Denver is 0-3 in Super Bowls wearing orange – losing by an average 31.5 points. Little did I know how accurate this meaningless stat was going to be.

Seattle +2.5 vs Denver and Under 48.0
We had barely settled into our sofas when Safety!! The “Greatest QB of all time” let the snap fly by his head. It was the fastest score in Super Bowl history. I was hooting and hollering and getting a lot of sideways glances from the neighborhood. Bruce was chuckling and would soon be rooting with me. He likes being against the crowd too.
I was up 2-0 and getting the ball. It was a great start. Seattle then takes its opening drive to Denver 13 where the kick a FG. It was now 5-0. Since I was getting 2.5 I was already up a TD. Nice

Denver goes 3 and out. Seattle then goes to the Denver 14 and
gets another FG. The vaunted Denver offense had had the ball for all of 4 plays and was down 8-0.
Denver gets the ball again and on 3rd and 7 its PICK!! Seattle gets the ball at the Bronco 37. The beginning of a rout were starting to take shape.
By now I am dancing and singing. WOOT WOOT!! …. WOOT WOOT!! I was annoying as can be. Bruce was helping.
Seven plays later Marshawn Lynch punches it in. Seahawks 15
Manning 0.
Denver then went on their best drive of the game. They took 8
minutes off the clock (helping my under) getting it to the Seahawk 35 when PICK!!! and …. SIX!! Another Manning turnover. This time it was caused by former Lion Cliff Avril – a member of the legendary Millen 0-16 team. Funny how former Lions always seem to do better than current Lions.
Seattle 22 Broncos 0 to end the half. It couldn’t be going any better.
Or could it? Percy Harvin drops back to take the kick off to open the second half. He’s been a non factor in the Seattle run to the Super Bowl. He played in one regular season game and one half in the playoffs. He takes the one hopper at the 13 and TO THE HOUSE!! Ball game! This game is OVAH!! An 87 yard return to put Seattle up 29-0.

Now all that was left to root for was the under. Seattle’s defense was doing its part. They were stonewalling the number one offense. But now they needed to STOP scoring points.
The teams traded punts and then Denver started driving. They
compete a pass to the Seattle 20 when FUMBLE!! All right. Hold defenses.
But Russell Wilson leads the Hawks on a TD drive with 3 minutes
left in the third. Seattle 36 Denver 0. Cut it out Seattle.
Denver finally gets it’s offense in gear and on the last play of the third quarter TD!!. Crap. They go for 2 and get it. Double crap. Now it’s 36
to 8. I can only have one more FG and still get the under. And Denver isn’t going to go for any FGs at this point.
No matter – Seattle gets the ball back and drives for a TD. That’s three straight drives ending in TDs. The under is officially lost. Brutal. And to top it off it was the last score of the game.
Final score Seattle 43 Denver 8.
So I ended up with a win on the game and a loss on the over. A split in the Mega Bets.

For the season – the Big Book of Guesses had a losing season going 346-358-12 in Div 1A and 121-131-8 in the NFL. Flipping a coin would have done better.
But the Doofus went much better with the Mega Bets going 22-14 in Div 1A and 10-9-1 in the NFL for total of 32-23-1 or 58%. Definitely a winning margin.
And once again, I was on fire starting the weeks after the Vegas Weekend. After week 9, I went 20-8. The later in the season
the better I seem to do.
Good thing we are having the GO JUMBO weekend later this year.
It will be NOVEMBER 15, 2014 at the usual place – the LVH Hotel. We checked around. Even though the Sports Book no longer allows cigar smoking – it is still tons better than the closets that other sports books are. We’ll just have to get our Macanudo fixes up the small flight of stairs in the casino.
And for those who love lots of data I have updated the Div 1A and NFL data bases. You can check every teams record against the spread since 2005 by checking here The Database
And if you want to see the results of every game including spreads, over/unders and much much more click here
