Iowa State -4.5 vs Oregon, Fiesta Bowl, Glendale AZ – Two of my favorite HCs, Matt Campbell of Iowa State and Mario Cristobal of Oregon face off in what should be a good one.
Oregon backed into the Pac-12 Championship Game dropping two straight regular season games before having their game with Washington canceled due to the Covid. It kept Washington out of the Championship game too so the Ducks “earned” the berth in the title game. The Ducks then upset USC.
Iowa State started off the season with a 17 point loss to UL Lafayette but improved throughout the season, winning their last five before a close Big 12 championship game loss to Oklahoma. For a Big 12 team Iowa State is surprisingly good on defense. They were 10th against the run and 10th overall.

QB Brock Purdy didn’t have the breakout season Cyclone fans were hoping for but he should have success against a Duck pass defense that ranked 87th overall. RB Breece Hall picked up the slack with a school record 21 TDs this year.
Oregon So QB Tyler Slough has been inconsistent for the Ducks. The running game has been up and down too. RB C.J. Verdell is questionable to play in this game after missing the Pac-12 Championship Game due to an injury.
Verdell started the season strong with 100-yard performances against Stanford and Washington State, but he was bottled up in his last three games with just 27 carries for 62 yards and a score.
I’m going with the Cyclones in this one. Iowa State has a much better defense than the one Oregon faced against USC. Iowa State was able to hang with Oklahoma that deserved the spot ND got in the playoffs. I’ll make it a Mini Mega.

Texas A&M -7.5 vs North Carolina, Orange Bowl, Miami FL - It’s the last game of the bowl season and it should be a fun one. North Carolina enters on a two-game winning streak, including a 62-26 victory over the Miami Hurricanes. Texas A&M has won seven in a row, and is this year’s “just missed the playoffs” team. After watching ND and Clemson, you can make the argument they should have been in.
It will be a contrast in styles. North Carolina will lull you to sleep controlling the clock and then bang – hot the home run with a big play. The Heels had the 4th best offense overall. However, the offense is missing it’s best RB Javonte Williams and top WR Dyami Brown as they are getting ready for the NFL.
Texas A&M plays a deliberate style that dominates the clock, grinds out drives, and makes opposing teams press when they finally get the ball. It’s a veteran team with a great back in Isaiah Spiller, a veteran QB in Kellen Mond, and a defense that led the SEC in yards allowed and was third in the nation against the run.
I’m going with Texas A&M to show that it belonged in the playoffs to pound away against a depleted UNC. Make it a Mega Bet.
