Happy New Year everyone! It sure is good to have 2020 behinds us. Here's to a much better 2021!
Georgia -7.0 vs Cincinnati, Chick-fil-a Bowl, Atlanta, GA – It’s the Miss Congeniality Bowl. Every year the CFP pretends a Group of 5 team has a chance at a CFP spot but ends up here, against a Power 5 team just outside the playoffs. Until the expand the playoffs, the Group of Five will end up in these bowls.
Will Cincinnati finally get the credit they deserve? The BearCats have won 11 games two seasons in a row including two bowl wins over Power Five teams. Now they come in unbeaten with a conference championship.
Cincinnati’s bread and butter is moving the ball on the ground but they are going to face the Bulldogs’ run defense, which is #1 in the nation by allowing only 69.3 yards per game this season. For the Bearcats to have success, QB Desmond Ridder (2,090 yards, 17 TDs, six picks) is going to have to make some plays with his arm. Georgia was 90th in the nation in passing defense though facing Bama and Florida skews those stats.

Ridder is a dual-threat quarterback9 (609 yards, 12 TDs on the ground) capable of making plays with his arm and his legs when needed. He will challenge the Bulldog defense.
Georgia has done a fair amount of damage with the run game as they have been playing musical quarterbacks through the season. Things picked up once JT Daniels (839 yards, ( TDs, 1 pick) was healthy enough to go. The team ripped through a three-game run of wins with the offense improving along the way.
I’m going with UGA and lay the points. This will be the best defense Cincinnati has faced this season, by far. And the offense is hitting its stride with Daniels under center. Make it a Mini Mega.

Northwestern -3.5 vs Auburn, Citrus Bowl, Orlando FL – Auburn HC Gus Malzahn was still celebrating a season ending win over Mississippi State when he was given the boot after eight seasons at the school. The Tiger interim HC Kevin Steele is just keeping the seat warm before newly hired head man Bryan Harsin takes over.
Auburn has struggled in bowls going 2-5. The Big Ten is even worse in this bowl vs the SEC going 1-7 between the two Power 5 conferences.
If you want a defensive slugfest, this game is for you. The Northwestern offense really doesn’t work. It’s the worst of all the ranked teams. They threw only threw nine touchdown passes with eight picks on the year, came up with one scoring throw in the last three games, and does next to nothing down the field on a consistent basis.
But the defense is well coached and disciplined. They don’t miss a whole lot of tackles and it leads the nation in pass efficiency defense. It was the fifth best in points allowed.

For Auburn. QB Bo Nix, didn’t progress much this year, part of the reason for Malzahn’s firing. He struggled in the vertical game and threw 11 TDs vs 7 picks. He will be missing his top target, WR Anthony Schwartz who opted out of the game.
The bright spot for the Tigers is RB Tank Bigsby (834 yds, 5 TDs) but he might opt out too after Gus was fired.
Auburn’s D has been decent but the secondary will be missing Devan Barrett, Jamien Sherwood, and Christian Tutt who all opted out. Not that the Cats will make them pay.
You know what Northwestern is going to do, you know it’s going to play at a deliberate pace and wait for you to make a mistake. Bo will do that.
I’m going with my Cats. Auburn is missing too many players. And I’m not sure they will be fired up playing for their 2nd HC waiting for a third in a month.
Put me down for a quatloo and another on the under 43.5

Alabama -20.0 vs Notre Dame, Rose Bowl, Arlington TX – Yeah, that’s not a misprint. Can there be anything more 2020? The Rose Bowl moved because families couldn’t attend the game. So rather than have it in the iconic Pasadena setting it’s in a non-descript suburb of Dallas.
But you will watch anyway. It’s the kickoff game for the playoffs. And yet, you may not be too excited, questioning why ND made it this far. They got a beat down by Clemson in the ACC championship game. Certainly, Texas A&M or maybe even Power 5 team deserves a shot.
But the eyeball test proffered by the CFP is about how many eyeballs they can bring to the TV not how they play on the field.

The Crimson Tide are on a roll that few teams, if any, can match. They are 7-2 in their last nine post-season games – both of those losses were national championships. There have been seven CFP playoffs, Bama has been in six.
There is no doubt, Bama is going to get their points. it has three Heisman-caliber superstars in QB Mac Jones, WR DeVonta Smith, and RB Najee Harris. It averaged nearly 50 points per game playing an SEC only slate.
The only question is can the Domers keep up. Or more precisely stay within 3 TDs? ND’s OL is every bit as good as Bamas (and Bama will be missing it’s starting center, that is no small thing). But they are built to be a more balanced offense.
Florida made it a game against the Tide because they are built around the passing game. That’s not how ND was constructed. Clemson was able to shut down the Domer run game and QB Ian Book was not able to come through with the passing game.
I’m laying the points for a quatloo as Bama shows the Committee they blew it with this pick. I’ll put on another quatloo on the over 65.5 just for fun

Clemson -7.5 vs Ohio State, Sugar Bowl, New Orleans, LA – Let’s hope this game is every good as the last time these two met. In last year’s playoff game, Ohio State jumped t a 16-0 lead only to have Clemson outscore the Buckeyes 29-7 to win 29-23. OSU had driven to the Clemson 23 but Fields was picked off in the end zone with 37 seconds left.
Ohio State has been waiting a year for a rematch. And Dabo has been trolling them ranking OSU 11th in his final poll.
There’s a lot of hype for both teams but this game is going to come down to a couple factors. One. Justin Fields struggles sorting out pass defenses. He can make 1-2 reads but it’s not pretty. It’s why I keep saying that he will struggle in the NFL. If he can’t get through progressions at this level, how do you expect him to get better at the next level.

Fields will get frustrated by what Venables has cooked up and take off. By the way, No Tiger D under Swinney has averaged four sacks per game until this one.
More importantly and sssshhh, keep this between us, but OSU isn’t very good against the pass, like 103rd bad. Think back to the Indiana game when Penix was going for nearly 500 yards. The Bucknut secondary looked like the Keystone Kops back there. I think next years #1 pick should be able to match that.
It will be fun for awhile. Ohio State will try to establish the run. But the Clemson #6 rush defense will contain Master Teague and Trey Sermon. They will then turn to Fields to pull it out and he will get picked at least tow times like he did last year.
Meanwhile Trevor will be lighting up the secret that was just between us.
Put me down for a Mega Bet.
