Oklahoma State -2.5 vs Miami (FL), Cheez-It Bowl, Orlando FL - It’s the first Power Five vs. Power Five matchup of the bowl season!
Miami is just not that good at this whole bowl thing losing nine of the last ten times including a 14-0 loss to La Tech last year. But this year they have an offense led by the best player on the field D’Eriq King. King’s ability to win with his arm and legs causes migraines for opposing DCs. When he is on the offense can keep up with just about anyone. More importantly, he also does a great job of taking care of the football. He isn’t about to beat himself. He also gave his teammates a boost when he announced that he will be returning in 2021.
It’s the others side of the ball that is causing concerns. That last time we saw Miami run defense they were getting trucked by UNC for 554 yards in the 62-26 loss. Now they will be playing without their two top pass rushers Jaelan Phillips and Quincy Roche who declared for the draft and opted out of the bowl game. More bad news came when DB Al Blades Jr (nephew of the last good Lions DB Bennie Blades) was forced to sit out the game with a heart condition.
Oklahoma State’s RB Chuba Hubbard never quite got going this year after an All-American season last year. He is also opting out of the game to focus on the draft. With Hubbard out, the Cowboys still managed to have a 100-yard rusher in each of their past three games.
The streak started when Jr. Dezmon Jackson rushed for 235 yards and three TDs in a 50-44 win over Texas Tech. Jackson then had 118 yards in a 29-22 loss to TCU. Fr. Dominic Richardson then pitched in, going for 169 yards and three TDs against Baylor.

So. QB Spencer Sanders was inconsistent and turnover prone. Sanders, a second-year starter, has passed for 26 touchdowns and 3,767 yards in the past two years. But he also has been intercepted 19 times in 19 games. The OL can open up holes but it struggles in pass protection leading sanders to make poor throws
Oklahoma State’s defense brings the heat. It led the Big 12 in tackles for loss and was second in the nation behind Wisconsin in third down stops. But overall it was middle of the pack at 40th allowing 365.7 yards allowed per game.
I’m going to go with the D’Eriq King and the Canes and take the points but no quatloos. This should be close back and forth game.
I will put a quatloo on the over 59.5 though. OSU should be able to challenge a depleted Miami defense. Spencer sanders is good for a pick which D'Eriq King will convert to a score.

Colorado +9.5 vs Texas, Alamo Bowl, San Antonio TX - It wasn’t all that long ago that these two were Big 12 rivals who battled in a few major conference championships. Texas was expected to contend for the Big 12 title this season but three losses by eight points or less did them in, capped by a three-point loss to Iowa State that sent the Cyclones to the Big 12 title game.
For Colorado, Coach Dantonio’s unexpected retirement set the dominoes in motion. Fickell toyed with State ultimately turning us down. Mel turned us down too, but the ante was upped and he came to East Lansing. That left Colorado looking for a new HC way too late in the season.
The Buffs were expected to be an after thought under HC Karl Dorrell but they started out 4-0 before losing the season ender to Utah. But with an unexpectedly very good season notched him Pac 12 coach of the year honors.
Colorado has found a star in RB Jarek Broussard. The RS freshman began the season with three scores in the win over UCLA, he tehn tore off 301 yards in the win over Arizona. The sophomore surpassed 800 rushing yards in just five games en route to winning Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year honors. The Buffs ended up with the 18th best rushing attack this year.
QB Sam Noyer is not much of a threat through the air with only six TDs against 5 picks. He will need to find a way to exploit the weakness of the Longhorn defense, the secondary, which was 113th overall.

Overall the Texas defense wasn’t too bad against the run, but it had its rough moments. It allowed over 200 yards three times – two times came in the losses to TCU and Oklahoma.
The Texas offense is balanced led by SR QB Sam Ehlinger. He had for 2,406 yards passing and is much more careful with the ball with 25 touchdowns against five picks this year. Ehlinger will also have to navigate a talented Colorado secondary, which produced an interception in every game this season but one, and only allowed seven touchdown passes on the year -- four of which came in the season opener.
Overall, Colorado was 7th in passing efficiency defense. Opposite of Colorado, Texas will need to run to open up the passing game.
Overall, the Longhorns finished in scoring offense as they put up a hefty 41.3 points per game this season. Texas will have to replace the production of leading wide receiver Brennan Eagles, who opted out of the Alamo Bowl.
Ehlinger also will be without two starters up front with left tackle Samuel Cosmi opting out earlier this season to focus on the NFL draft and senior Derek Kerstetter out because of a dislocated left ankle.
There's also some uncertainty regarding right guard Denzel Okafor, who could reportedly miss this game due to COVID-19 protocols. Even if Okafor is cleared in time to play, Texas will likely start two true freshmen up front.
I’m going to take Colorado and the points in this one, 9.5 is a bit steep for two teams that can play a little defense. No quatloos though.
I will put a Mini Mega on the under 63.5. Texas is missing some key players on offense and both teams are going to try establish the run early and shorten the clock.
