Always something going in in the Big Easy
You just can’t sit around bemoaning your fate while waiting for
football to start– so the Doofus, Mrs. Doofus, Bruce and Mrs. Bruce hit the road and spent the weekend in New Orleans. There’s always a party going on in the Big Easy and sure enough we find out when we get there it’s the French Quarter Festival in full swing. Plenty of music all around the quarter at my favorite price – free!!
We started out by going to the New Orleans Cooking School and learned how to make shrimp creole, cream of crawfish soup, pralines and bananas foster. The chef was hilarious. He talked about his days playing football at LSU where he got “my second high school diploma”. We got to eat his creations (excellent) and wash it down with a local IPA. Great start to the day.
We saw a ton of bands, ate at K-Pauls, the NOLA restaurant, stopped by and had some oysters at an oyster bar (without the four finger tequila chaser –thanks for the suggestion anyways Mark), had some Pimms Cup at
the Napoleon House - just a grand old time.

Do not seek the treasure
One venue was by the old US Mint in the Quarter. Mrs Doofus went
inside and saw flags in the gift shop. I’m always on the prowl for new flags for the Doofus deck so I went inside and asked which of the flags were the official City of New Orleans flag. They didn’t know. They sheepishly admitted that since this was a National Historical site – they should know!
So we looked it up and indeed they did not have such a flag. So
the search was on. I went up and down the various streets looking for a store that sells flags. No luck. Finally on the way back I came across a street vendor that was selling all kinds of flags including the City flag. But it wasn’t in the best shape with several small rust stains. He wanted $15 – I got him down to
$6 due to the condition. Didn’t bother me - the condition of the flag means it has character just like the rest of the Doofus Flags.

Nothing but a party!
After watching tons of good bands and fun acts we saved the best for last. The finale was watching the Dirty Dozen Brass Band right on Decatur Street. Crowd was into it. Bruce and I were dancing (if you can call it dancing – more like off beat jerking and swaying) Bruce – this one for you buddy Ain't nothing but a party.
I’m driving the kids nuts singing that song and another classic “Feet don’t fail me now!”
And when I got home there was some more good news – The Mountain West finally got out their 2013 schedule. That means all the college teams are now in!
So I quickly hurried to fill in the rest of the Big Book of Guesses 2013 College Football schedule. And here they are including dates, times, networks the results from last year’s game and results against the spread since 2005 against
each other. I’ll keep these updated as the year goes on.
I’ll also have some commentary on the GO JUMBO weekend games in the next update.

Meanwhile, most teams are wrapping up Spring practice. Nebraska had a tear jerker moment when the let a 7 year old brain cancer victim rush for a TD Jack Hoffman 69 yard td run. Nice – but Husker fans must be worrying
about the defense - that was terrible.
The Bucknut defense was awesome however, at least against the mascot Brutus gets decleated.
And while you wait for the NFL draft – here is a great highlight reel for Le’Veon Bell Le'Veon. He was awesome. Spartan fans are going to miss Bell
