Put the cupcakes back in the cupboard, conference play is finally here. Summer may be over but the temperature is rising. It’s going to be a fun weekend for college football.
Here’s some of the games I'll be watching and perhaps investing a few quatloos too.
#8 Tennessee -3.0 @ #25 LSU – Wow, has the Tennessee offense taken off. Josh Heupel's fast-paced offense has been amazing so far this season, averaging an FBS-best 559.3 yards and an SEC-best 48.5 PPG.
QB Hendon Hooker has the keys to this explosive attack. He’s tossed for 1,193 yards, eight TDs and no picks. In fact he hasn’t thrown a pick in his last 212 attempts, a stretch that goes back to last season. His leads the SEC in passer rating (183.7) and the nation in yards per attempt (10.6). He had no problem, thank you, finding a date for the Heisman trophy presentation.

It’s the Vols first visit to Baton Rouge since 2010. The Tigers have won each of the last five meetings, including a 30-10 victory in Knoxville in 2017.
Fortunately for Tennessee. The game is at 11:00 local which means those Cajuns won’t have all day to get liquored up. Somehow that seems to work in LSU’s favor though. Early starts are rare, but LSU is 8-0 in games starting before noon.

Does Kansas have a defense too? #17 TCU -6.5 @ #19 Kansas – The two biggest surprises, not only in the Big 12, but in nation. Preseason polls had TCU finishing 7th in the Big 12 and Kansas dead last as normal.
It didn’t take Lance Leopold long to get the Jayhawks turned around. Kansas finished with win over Texas and one score losses to TCU and West Virginia. You knew something might be up in Lawrenceville and this year proved it.
The ground game is clicking. They are 17th in rushing offense with 218.6 yards per game on the ground and 12th in the nation in scoring with 41.6 PPG.
And do they have a defense now too? Last week they stuffed Iowa State to 26 yards rushing.

TCU shredded Oklahoma last week Texas -7.5 vs Olahoma (Dallas TX) – Remember when this game had conference and national implications? Not so much this year. It’s the first time since 1998 that these teams meet in the Shootout unranked.

Tech was +3 in turnovers last week. Not sure that will happen again Duke -3.5 @ Georgia Tech – the market is over reacting to the Jackets win over Pitt last week. Tech was +3 in turnover margin in that game. That won’t happen again. Duke will shred the Jacket secondary.

Wazzu (+13) @ USC - Washington State is for real – they would be 5-0 if not for a late Pick-6 against Oregon. This is a classic trap game for the Condoms since they are playing Utah the following week in Salt Lake City. Don’t be surprised if the Cougs pull an upset here.
UCLA (+4) vs Utah - The Bruins have a 6’5” wide receiver named Jake Bobo who will be a first round draft pick next year and a great running game with Zach Charbonnet. If DTR plays like he did last week, the Bruins can win this game. This will be the first UCLA home game this year with 50,000 + people in the Rose Bowl.
Kansas (+7) vs TCU - The Sheriff is jumping on the Jayhawk bandwagon even though the experts are picking TCU.
PS – The Sheriff will be in Vegas this weekend attending the BYU/Notre Dame game with friends and will be raising a glass to the Doofus this Saturday in the MGM Sports Book.
