If Week 1 was full of wild exciting finishes, week 2 was all about the upsets.
The Fun Belt Rocks! – Hey PAC 12 – that’s the way you deal with the Conference Reshuffle Dance. Rather than let your premier teams up and leave, crying woe is me, the Sun Belt got aggressive and grabbed teams from supposedly superior conferences. Result Georgia Southern 45 Nebraska 42; App State 17 Texas A&M 14 and, my favorite, Marshall 26 Notre Dame 21.
That ND head coach hire is looking more and more like the Bobby Williams hire, HC bolts for LSU, players rally around their favorite assistant, who then fall flats on his face.
What goes around comes around – Clay Helton gets canned at USC, lands at Georgia Southern, beats Nebraska who cans Scott Frost.
Were you really surprised by App State over A&M. OK, I was pleasantly surprised but not stunned. App State has been known to come to your house, play with your dog and then leave with the furniture – right Wolvies?

That’s not how scheduling Cupcakes is supposed to work – It wasn’t just the Sun Belt who came out with the upsets. The idea for scheduling cupcakes is that you pay them more money than they see in a year in return for being target practice and tune ups for conference play.
Four Div 1AA teams didn’t get the memo as they beat Div 1A teams. Buffalo, Bowling Green, Nevada and Utah State dutifully wrote their checks but still came away with a loss.
Buffalo is really struggling since losing HC Lance Leopold. They are 4-10 since he left and getting worse. On the short list for the Nebraska HC job, former Husker Assistant, Lance Leopold.
Plenty more upsets too – Johnny E was last seen in the back of the factory sucking on teat dip after both his teams, Wisconsin and Northwestern, lost out right as 10 point favorites.
Kansas, as a two TD dogs, won by 2 TDs in OT over West Virginia.
Losing twice on the same game – I put a Mega on Bama to crush Texas. By half time it was coming apparent that the cover was way out of reach so I started rooting for Texas and the upset.
Of course, the Tide with the help of bad calls and an amazing scramble by Bryce Young pulls out the win. Double loss.

So who’s making the playoffs?
Georgia – yeah, the line play is awesome again. If they gink, it’s will be due to QB Stetson Bennett. Everything else looks fine.
Bama? - Not sure what to make of Alabama this year. I was thinking they were a shoe in for the CFP but the passing game is missing it’s normal roster of next level NFL talent and the secondary looks full of holes.
That said, last year they struggled with Florida and won the SEC. In 2020, it almost lost a shoot out to Ole Miss and won a Natty.
Will they make the CFP again this year? I’ll wait and see if "the process" kicks in like in years past.
Ohio State – probably, but that ND win isn’t looking so good now, is it?

Michigan – nope. They look good now, but does anyone have an easier opening slate than Colorado State, Hawaii and UConn? Then they open conference play with Maryland.
The hosannas, after getting off to a 4-0 start, will be deafening. Then reality kicks in when they travel to Kinnock stadium, where they will be too tired from picking their butts off the field to wave to the kids with cancer.
Southern Cal – Kinda like that pick right now. But Utah is a much tougher team at home than they are in the Swamp.
Clemson – the offense is still a hot mess. Dabo is regretting letting his two top assistants leave in the same year.
Okie State – the defense looks to have taken a step back since DC Jim Knowles left for Ohio State. The game against Oklahoma on Nov 19 could decide a playoff spot though.
Wide open this year. Could be one or two newcomers this year. This season is starting out great!
And remember - the 2022 GO JUMBO is Oct 29th at the Westgate SuperBook.
