The view from the Biff – a recap and reflection on the weeks events
Now that is the way to kick off the season. Tons of wild exciting games!
It started Thursday night with the Backyard brawl between Pitt and West Virginia. A game that lived up to all the hype. The place was electric all game long, both teams were playing their hearts out - the game was fantastic. West Virginia was driving for a walk off FG when -
Pick Six! Panthers win 38-31!
By the way – that was the only Big 12 loss of the weekend. They went 9-1. Add in future members UCF, Houston (more on that below) and BYU and the conference went 12-1
And while that game was going on Penn State and Purdue were facing in a key battle between B10 dark horses. I've had my doubts about PSU's QB Sean Clifford but this may have changed my mind. Down 31-28 he makes a fantastic game winning drive
One night into the first full week of the season and already two classic games. Could it get any better?
Sure could
The fun continued into Friday with with another great finish to a B10 game. I had taken a money line bet on the Illini at +120, leading late when Indiana got the ball

Crap - I hate Hoosiers
And yet there was still another great Friday game. Va Tech rolled into Norfolk for, what, they thought would be an easy win. Not so fast my friends!
Late in the first half, in a tight low scoring game, the Hokies look to go up a TD
and then this - to close out the game.
Old Dominion stuns Va Tech 20-17. Cost me a parlay but it was worth it.
You can eliminate another Group of Five team to get into the CFP. They went 1-25 against Power Five teams.
The only win was the ODU win
And that wasn't even the most exciting game.
How about this fun game to start Saturday. App State started out the 4th quarter down 41-21 at home. They come storming back. Then perhaps the most fun 30 seconds ever
So close. But it did bring back memories of the Mountaneers vs some team we all hate.
At the same time East Carolina had NC State on the ropes. The Pirates missed an XP but got the ball back with a chance at a walk off FG when
Oh man. Group of Five teams were so close to getting some wins. What a way to open up Saturday. I hadn't even had the first drink of the day yet.
So I poured myself a few fingers figuring this was going to be great.
And, yup, the fun just kept on coming
On the 3:30 slate of games Houston rolled on down the freeway to the Alamo Dome.
Three OTs of free fooball. Keep an eye out for Houston an UTSA. They are going to rack up some serious wins this year
Then it was time for the Big Boys to play. I took Utah on another ML play to upset the Gators in the Swamp. Things were looking pretty good. Utah was about to score a go ahead TD with less than a minute to play when - well just watch
I was over watching the game at the Sax Man's and we were screaming WTF!
Stupid stupid stupid.
Oh, and that made the SEC 13-0 going into the weekends finale.
It was another another barn burner.
've never seen a more exciting game featuring so many miscues - muffed punt (LSU's 2nd of the game), fumble at the goal line, a last second TD and then a missed XP.
What a heck of a way to end Week 1
I just hope this week is half as exciting
