2021 Week 3 - The Coaching Carousel gets off to an early start

PicturePete forwarded this instant classic - If I didn't know anything about College Football, here is what I’d guess each Big Ten coach did for a living
We are only three weeks into the season and already there has been two head coach firings. UConn’s Randy Edsall’s firing has been a few years in the making. The Huskies were miserable before he came back and regressed even further after he returned. He announced that he was retiring at the end of the season but the athletic department came to their senses and realized that if he is going to be a retiree in training (or RIT), best to show him the door now. We’ve all known RITs at work, not much gets done, right Mike?

And while we all knew that UConn’s change was coming,  USC’s Clay dismissal of Helton was a bit of a surprise. Yeah, he was always on the hot seat and Condom fans were praying at every alter they could find that Urban Meyer would jump on their pony during this year’s Coaching Carousel. Helton never matched the unrealistic expectations at USC but to get the ziggy after one loss in 2021? Lets just say that is aggressive.

Not that Mrs H is shedding any tears. I left her Island Command before the game only to return Sunday with her still beaming about how her Cardinal put the knife into USC. Shouldn’t have left so early.

By the way – excellent time last weekend, thanks!

WE had a ton of fun abusing Chris as THE Duck was clobbering Ohio State. Forget planting a flag – leave a duck

A masterful troll

Texas, do you really want to go to the SEC? Average SEC West team Arkansas 40 Shorthorns 21.

Speaking of Stanford, it’s brainiac week. Stanford is playing Vandy. Both teams started out with huge gaffes in week 1. The Cardinal lost to Kansas State while Vandy lost to East Tennessee State (who?). Stanford rebounded with the win over USC while Vandy squeaked by an inept Colorado State. Stanford is playing at a much higher level, I’ll lay the 12.o points for a quatloo.

And while those pocket protected pencil necks are going at it, Northwestern plays Duke. These two are unbettable right now. Both are 1-1 with wins over North Carolina A&T and Indiana State. I’ll just root for the Fighting Bruces while really watching other games.

PictureNC State is dead to me
I’m done betting on NC State. When I put money on them, they lose. When I bet against them they win. Last week I had them covering 2.5 against Mississippi State and the lose by two TDs. They are dead to me.

Fading Colorado State looks like easy money. Not only did they lose to Div 1AA South Dakota State ( a good team but still..) they then lost to Vandy which was coming off a loss to ETSU. Next up is Toledo favored by 14.0 I’ll put a quatloo on the Rockets.

Cincinnati is in dress rehearsals for the CFP. Run the table with wins over Indiana this week and Notre Dame next week and they will have a strong case to be in.  Indiana is looking like last years great run may have been a one hit wonder. I like the Bearcats and will lay the 4,0 points for a quatloo.

How lame is this Nebraska Oklahoma game of the Century rematch bull spit. First, that was not the game of the Century. Everyone knows it's the Michigan State Notre Dame 10-10 tie. Nebraska is living on faded glory. They are going to get crushed.

Only a couple really big games this week:

Auburn +5.0 vs Penn State – It’s been 90 years since Auburn traveled to a Big Ten stadium. The Big Guy and Dr. Big Guy weren’t going to miss this chance. They will be at the game.

Auburn has been beating up your neighbors kid, taking their candy, and tossing the wrappers on your lawn: winning by a combined score of 122-10 over Akron and Alabama State. Two tune up games back to back, at home no less.

Now they have to travel to Happy Valley rocking under wild white out conditions. The Nits defense is for real, stopping Wisconsin cold and holding a top tier MAC team Ball State offense without a TD until the fourth quarter.

Normally I would give the points and see if the Tigers are for real but the Big Guy said un no uncertain terms I had to take Auburn. War Eagle!

PictureMercer didn't back down
Alabama -14.5 vs Florida – The last time these two played it was a fantastic 52-46 win by Bama in last years SEC championship game.

The Tide lost a slew of players to the NFL, reloaded and travels to the Swamp. Bama has downed an overrated Miami (FL) and Mercer but the defense is not up to Saban standard quite yet Giving up 14 points to the Bears got a some assistant coaches a polite, gentile reminder from Nick that that is not acceptable in Tuscaloosa .

Florida has won but struggle just a wee bit against Florida Atlantic and South Florida. QB Emory Jones has thrown four picks already this season.

The game will be close for a half and then the Tide QB Bryce Young will take over. No quatloos though.

The Sheriff has a few picks this week

Purdue (+7.5) @ Notre Dame - The Papists have insulted the Pride of Boiler Nation by refusing to allow the World’s Biggest Bass Drum (10 feet high and 565 lbs) to enter the Stadium via the home team’s tunnel (it won’t fit in the visitor’s tunnel).    This will be the first time the Purdue Band has performed without its Famous Drum since 1979.   The 2-0 Boilermakers will make the Irish pay for this insult.

San Diego State (+8.5) vs Utah - This line is too big.  The Aztecs will cover it at home. The Doofus: good pick

Wyoming (-7) vs Ball State. -  The highest stadium in Division 1 football (over 7000 ft) will be too much for Ball St to overcome.
