What a great week of college football!
MSU is back baby! The defense bent but didn’t break. And then, at just the right time, the D would force a turnover.
The play calling was superb. Kenny Walker showed quickness, the ability to cut on a dime (and leave nine cents change) while also showing power breaking tackles. He's an absolute stud RB.
Payton Thorne showed a maturity beyond his years making the right reads and taking a sack rather than throwing it up for grabs.
We are going to be a force in the Big Ten. And the last time we started the season 3-0 we went to the CFP. Just saying…OK I'm not saying but things are looking a lot better than they were at the beginning of the year.
Not only did State get a huge win but there were several fantastic games.

It continued the next day at Noon when Georgia Tech faced Clemson as huge underdogs. The Wreck were not intimidated:
It got better as the day rolled on. Saturday afternoon Bama and Florida played a key SEC game in the Swamp. Florida scored a TD with 2:45 to close the score to 31-29 but the two point conversion, an ugly mesh RPO play up the middle, failed and The Tide held in to win.
Then it got even better into the evening.
It was a white out, at night, the place was electric as Penn State and Auburn went down to the wire. Penn State made two huge defensive stops at the end, First, the Nittany Lions kept Auburn (2-1) out of the end zone after a first-and-goal at the 10. An incomplete fade from the 2 on fourth down with 3:08 left gave Penn State the ball back.
But, Penn State could not run out the clock and punted back to Auburn with 45 seconds left.
Auburn managed to get to the Penn State 23 with 3 seconds left. Nix fired deep down the middle but it was knocked down a few steps in front of the goal. No word from the Big Guy or Dr Big Guy to see if they recovered.
By then you went to sleep and missed two instant classics between the Mountain West and the Pac 12.
Here’s Utah and Fresno State:
Only to be bested by UCLA and San Diego State
If you are keeping score – that’s two MWC wins over the Pac 12. It was an ugly week for the Pac 12. Not only did they lose twice to the MWC but Arizona State was upset by BYU. Worse, Arizona State was upset by Northern Arizona of Div 1AA and Colorado couldn’t even score against Minnesota.
At least Stanford beat a miserable Vandy team.
That was Minnesota’s 21st straight non conference win by the way.
And ACC you can stop that snickering about the Pac 12, Pitt's loss to Western was the second win by the MAC over the ACC along with a loss to the CUSA and to a Div 1AA team.
The Group of Five continues to try to break into the CFP. It took a awhile but Cincinnati finally downed Indiana. But the Bearcats better not look over the shoulder ‘cause BYU is making an even better case to get in. BYU is now 3-0, all against Pac-12 teams, and it still has USC and Washington State to face along with Baylor, Virginia, and Boise State. Clear that plate and BYU has a much better resume than a perfect Cincinnati.
After the Bama Florida game, UGA should be number 1 with Florida and Bama in the Top 5. Not sold on Iowa yet but Penn State deserves to be there. Ohio State? Nope, they are struggling. Oklahoma? maybe but it took way too much to get by Nebraska. Oregon looks to have a bunny slope ride to the CFP given the way the Pac 12 is shaping up.
