And now for full menu of college football! A menu that would put the Cheesecake Factory to shame. Just in time too. Those appetizers last week were awful. Even Mikey wouldn’t even eat that stuff. Yeah, OK, Nebraska almost made a game of it against Illinois but that was just one bad team almost coming back to beat another bad team.
Now the Big Boys are coming to the table and they are ready to play!
First a tip of the Doofus’ Admiral hat to Oklahoma. The Sooners were scheduled to play Tulane in New Orlena. When hurricane Ida forced Tulane to practice in Birmingham, Oklahoma offered to play the game in Norman and let Tulane keep the gate! Classy move and big revenue boost for Tulane. I’ll still be rooting for Bruce’s back up school though.
I’ve invited the Doofus Kids to watch Week 1 on the Doofus Deck. As I am in control of the remote (Mrs Doofus is out of town) we will be watching:

Georgia +3.0 vs Clemson (Charlotte NC) – It doesn’t get much better than this. It’s the most hyped opening game in a long long time.
The Sax Man has borrowed a projector and inflatable screen for this one while the Saxy Lady will be having a massive Red Coat Army party.
While DJ Uiagalelei will be taking the helm now that the Trevor Lawrence era has come to a close and JT Daniels is starting for the first time in a UGA season opener, this is not the first time these two have squared off. In 2017 Daniels’ Mater Dei (CA) beat Uiagalelei’s St John Bosco (CA) twice. Once in the regular season and again in the playoffs. To be fair, Uiagalelei was a true freshman that year while Daniels was the #1 recruit for the 2019 class.
Can Daniels make it three in a row? Both teams lose key players but it doesn’t matter, they just reload with another round of 5 star recruits.
I’m going with the Dawgs and the slightly better defense. They were the number 1 against the run last year. The last time we saw the Clemson defense, they were running around like Keystone Kops trying to contain Justin Fields.
This one is going to be a dandy with Playoff level intensity. Put me down for a Mini Mega Bet on UGA with the points and another Mini Mega on the money line at +150.

LSU -3.0 at UCLA – UCLA and LSU’s start to the season couldn’t be more different. UCLA blew out Hawaii 44-10 last week while LSU evacuated to Houston to avoid Hurricane Ida.
The Bruins win was their first nonconference victory in seven tries under fourth-year coach Chip Kelly. Beating LSU would give Kelly his first nonconference win against a Power 5 opponent.
Which LSU team will we see this year? One closer to the 2019 that ripped through the college or the one that floundered through 2020 in a bit of a rebuild.
Lost in the blow out over Hawaii is that QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson only hit half his passes for 130 yards. Granted, the running game is still racking up yards on the Rainbows but they wont be able to do that against the Tigers.
UCLA has the edge with a game under their belts and playing at home but LSU will contain the run game and DRT will struggle to throw on one of the best secondaries in college football.
I’ll lay the points for a Mega Bet and another quatloo on the under.

Alabama -19.5 @ Miami (FL) – If Cane QB D’Eriq King can pull this off you can just hand him the Heisman now. He’s that type of QB that has given Bama fits in the past, slippery, mobile and a cannon for an arm.
Yeah, Bama just reloads, but this year it’s a battleship of a reload, a super heavy lift. Mac Jones, gone; DeVonta Smith, arguably one of the best WRs to take a snap of college football, gone; Jaylen Waddle, gone; Najee Harris, one of the best dual threat running backs, gone. OL Alex Leatherwood, Landon Dickerson and Deonte Brown, gone, gone, gone; defensive studs Patrick Surtain II and Christian Barmore all gone.
What’s not gone is Bama’s ability to beat good teams in the season opener. The last loss was to UCLA back in 2001, and ever since beating Kent State in 2011, Nick Saban’s teams have beaten Michigan, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Wisconsin, USC, Florida State, and Louisville, He’s 9-0, with all the wins by double-digits, with a combined score of - 351-113.
He’ll win this one too though I have my doubts about the spread. I’ll take Miami (FL) to cover but no quatloos. Bet against the Tide at your own peril.

Notre Dame -7.5 @ Florida State – Notre Dame -7.5 @ Florida State – Bama reloads, UGA reloads, Clemson, Oklahoma reload. But can Notre Dome? QB Ian Book is gone, not that he all that great, to be replaced by Wisconsin reject Jack Coan. Coan is a stiff so ND will try to ground and pound behind a questionable OL.
FSU is years away from reloading. They are in full rebuild mode. HC Mike Norvell came in from Memphis and promptly went 3-6 with one of those wins over a Div 1AA team. The defense was absolutely awful, dead last in the ACC sacks and a bottom dweller overall.
It’s going to be an emotional game. The Noles will be honoring the late Bobby Bowden and then at some point McKenzie Milton, returning from an horrific leg injry two years ago at UCF, will enter the game to load roars.
It won’t be enough. Norvell’s defenses at Memphis were worse than FSU’s last year so don’t expect too much improvement. The Domers will find a groove and roll. I’ll lay a Mini Mega on it.

I’ll also be investing in these games:
Wisconsin vs Penn State under 50.0 – Wisconsin’s offense was painful to watch last year but the defense kept them in games. Penn State’s offense was a turnover machine but the defense kept them in games. Two of the best defenses in the Big 10 go at it in a low scoring game. I’ll put a quatloo on the under.
Baylor -14.0 @ Texas State – Texas State went 2-10. The offense was fun to watch but the defense is several parsecs away from being average. Baylor is going to pound away for an easy win. Put me down for a Mini Mega.
Oregon State @ Purdue under 69.0 – Where did this line come from? Purdue averaged 25 PPG last tear and lost Rondale Moore to the Cardinals. Oregon State averaged 30 PPG and lost RB Jermar Jefferson to the Lions.
The Beavers best unit is the OL which 13th in fewest sack allowed. They are going to pound away and keep the score in the 50’s. I’m in for a Mini Mega.

And look who is at the door! After a one year Covid break, the Sheriff has emerged from his Maibu house with his best picks.
But first he would like to give a tribute to the late, great Charlie Watts from his bandmates. God Bless you, Charlie.

Cal (-3.5) vs Nevada. Nevada has a great QB in junior Carson Strong, but the Golden Bears will prevail under the leadership of 6-year (?) (All I know is the kid has been there forever) QB Chase Garbers. Should be a great game: PAC-12 After Dark is back.
UCLA (+3) vs LSU. Ed Orgeron returns to SoCal to seek revenge for being sacked by the condoms in 2013 (it was USC’s loss to UCLA in the final game that got him fired). UCLA has an advantage because they have already played one game, and the Baby Bruins have a great transfer running back from Michigan in Zach Charbonnet. There will be a full house in the Rose Bowl for the first time in many years. Can’t wait for this one.
The Doofus: I guess we will agree to disagree.
Georgia Tech (-18) vs Northern Illinois. My Athlon 2021 College Football Preview Magazine informs me that the Huskies are gonna suck this year so the Sheriff will take the Yellow Jackets at home and lay the points.
And for all the games, times, spreads, picks and much much more here is the 2021 Week 1 Bettors Guide
