Football is finally here!! Well, not fully here. This weekend is the Don Fannuci weekend – not a lot, just enough to wet your beak. And just like Don Fanucci, you’ll get less than you were expecting. There’s four appetizer games, three look like week old sushi and one that’s wings with mystery sauce - could be good.
But before we get into the games, lets take a look at the new rules for 2021. Most are minor in nature, video boards and lighting systems can not cause a distraction, emphasis on enforcing taunting rules, coaches that come onto the field to dispute a call will automatically get an unsportsmanlike.
The biggest change is the revised overtime rules. Previously, teams had to go for 2 after a touchdown after the third OT. Now it will be after the second OT After the 3rd OT, teams will alternate to go for 2 rather than line up at the 25 yard line.

As far as the games some are truly awful
UTEP -10 @ New Mexico State – A bad team paying on the road on arguably the worst team in Div 1A. The last time UTEP covered 10 points on the road was in 2013 and NMSU has won three straight in this series. Still, I’m going with the Miners. They have the ability to run the ball and the Aggie run defense is next level bad. No qautloos though
UCan’t @ Fresno State under 63.0 - UConn can give NMSU a run for the money on the worst team in Div 1A. It’s been almost two years since the Huskies took to the field. The last time they did they were members of the American Athletic Conference looking to rebound with the return of Randy Edsall. That experiment is not working out to well. He’s 6-26 since coming back in 2017.
Fresno State can put points on the board but 63 is a tall order. Only two of there last 6 games went over 63. UConn is even worse with only 4 of 12 over 63. Defenses are a little ahead of the offenses at the start of the year. I’ll put a quatloo on the under. UConn will nowhere and Fresno State gets nowhere near getting the 63 by themselves.

Illinois +7.0 versus Nebraska – Remember when HC returning to his Alma Mater was the hottest coaching hire since Harbough? As bad as the scUM hire was, Nebraska’s is worse. The program with delusions of relevancy has gone 12-20 under Frost and three straight 5th place finishes in the BIG West.
Illinois finally gave up on the Lovie Smith experiment after going 17-39 under the bearded one. His replacement could turn out to be even worse. Big Butt Brett Bielema had a good run at Wisconsin but once he left the Barry Alverez cocoon and tried his hand at Arkansas he fell flat on on enormous backside.
Neither team has a firm hand on the tiller. Ill take the points at home but no quatloos.

Hawaii +18.0 at UCLA – Finally, a game that has some semblance of quality. It’s year three of Chip Kelly. If the turnaround is gaining traction, we will know this year. He’s 10-21 overall in Westwood and winless outside the PAC 12. The offense started to look like a Chip Kelly offense scoring 35 PPG, 20th overall in the nation. The defense improved from a truly awful 113th overall in 2019 to a slightly below average 69th.
Todd Graham came to Hawaii last year, had a winning record and won its bowl game. Not a bad start. This is now longer the pass happy run and shoot Rainbow attack from years past. Graham installed an offense that grinds the ball on the ground, takes a few shots deep and plays solid defense.
I love taking solid Group of Five teams getting points against Power Five teams. I’ll take the points for a quatloo and take the under 67.5 for another quatloo
And for all the games, times spreads and much much more here is the Week 0 Bettors Guide
