2020 Week 15 - Army vs Navy share the weekend

PictureArmy Navy always features cool unis too
Remember when the Army Navy game had the weekend all to themselves. Yup, not this year. And to add to the weirdness, the game won’t be in Philadelphia but in West Point.

But it’s still the best game of the weekend. Starting with the prisoner exchange before the game all the way until the winners singing second, the game is full of color, pageantry and tradition. Everything that makes college football so great.

Of course, I’ll go with Big Al and take Navy, it’s a family tradition, sorry Dwink. By the way, Navy is 3-0 all time on Army’s home field.

Normally, rivalry week was last week but this year it is sprinkled all over the calendar. A few more will kick off today including:

PictureVa Tech is going backwards
USC -3.0 @ UCLA – If ND beats Clemson again and Ohio State and Bama take care of business will the playoff committee want a CFP with four conference champions? That’s the incentive for USC. But they will need some style points over UCLA to get there.

UCLA is playing its best football under Chip so far (a low bar) but the Condom defense will contain the Bruin running game, force a few turnovers and Slovis will throw for 2 TDs for the cover. Put me down for a Mini Mega.

Virginia +3.0 @ Virginia Tech – Going with the trends here. These teams are going in opposite directions. After starting out 4-2, injuries and the Covid have caught up with the  Hokies who have lost four in a row.

Virginia started out 1-4 but have caught fire with four straight wins. Cavalier's QB Brennan Armstrong will torch a terrible Hokies’ pass defense that has plummeted to 102nd in the FBS.

The Cavs lost 15 in a row to Va Tech until they won last year. Make it two in a row. I’ll take the points for a Mini Mega.

PictureThe Spartans gave the Cats their wake up call
Vanderbilt +16.0 vs Tennessee – It’s a really bad team (Tennessee) versus a truly awful team (Vandy). The only reason to watch this game is to see if Sarah Fuller can be the first girl to score a point in a college football game.

Probably not but I’ll take the points in a rivalry game. No quatloos though.

Northwestern -14.5 vs Illinois – Illinois is playing tough but not getting the wins. They have four losses but only two by more than 14 points.

Northwestern is off to Indianapolis but hasn’t won a game by double digits since blowing out Maryland 43-3 to start the season.

But I’m still taking the Cats.  They got a wake up call in their last game a loss to the Spartans, a game where they were up 20-7 before blowing it. The defense will keep the Illini under 10 points.

Lovie Smith could well be coaching his last college game. The fans are antsy after going to a bowl last year.

No quatloos though. It’s tall number for the Wildcat offense. The under 40.0 is worth a quatloo though.

PictureGraham Mertz is starting to play like a freshman
Iowa +2.5 vs Wisconsin – It wasn’t that long ago when Wisconsin was considered a CFP team. Then they started playing teams with a pulse and the offense turtled.

Iowa is on a five game winning streak and is getting points at home. I’ll take the Hawkeyes to finally get by their nemesis for a quatloo. I’ll also put a quatloo on the under 41.5. Neither team is lighting up the scoreboard.

As for the other games this weekend:

Auburn -6.5 @ Mississippi State – So much for the Pirate Air Raid. Only Vandy has a worse offense in the SEC than Mississippi State. There is no run game to speak of, Pat gets more yards going to the fridge during games than the Bulldogs average.

The strength of the Auburn defense is the pass defense which matches up well against Miss State. After getting rocked by the two best teams in the SEC over the last two weeks, Auburn gets a breather. They will take advantage, Bo Nix will do just enough to get the cover. I’ll put a quatloo while the Big Guy watches from Disney World.

PictureWtF will stone Louisville
Coastal Carolina -13.5 @ Troy - What a let down for CCU. From a Game Day, nationally televised game at home to an ESPN+ game that no one bothers with on the road. Can the Chanticleers be motivated?

Troy has traditionally been a Sun belt powerhouse but this year are being eclipsed by CCU, App State and UL Lafayette. I'll lay the point on Coastal as they try to stay relevant out of sight from the viewing public. Putting up big points will get the notice they need.

I'll lay a quatloo. The Teal is real!

Wake Forest +1.0 @ Louisville - Louisville has only been able to win against the weakest teams, with their ACC wins coming over Syracuse and Florida State, who have a combined 3-16 record.

Meanwhile Wake Forest's losses have been against the better teams in the ACC, Clemson, North Carolina State and North Carolina 59-53. Wake ranks number one in the country with a positive turnover margin, while Louisville is the fourth worst.

I'll take the points and the Demon Deacons for a Mega Bet.

PictureRice picked off Marshall 5 times in a huge upset
UAB -7.5 @ Rice - It was the biggest upset of last week when Rice beat Marshall 20-0 as 23.5 point underdogs. Can the make it two upsets in a row?

UAB hasn’t played in six weeks while Rice has had more games canceled (six) than they’ve played (four) this season. The Owls have had success through the air this season but that plays into what UAB is strong at defensively.  UAB is a balanced offense that can do damage on the ground as well as through the air.

UAB will have the motivation. They have the chance to be the first back-to-back-to-back division winner in Conference USA history. Rice got their big win out of the way and are still a bad team.

I'll put a Mini Mega on the Blazers to get the cover.

PictureSpartans will be wearing some cool Gruff helmets!
For this weeks Money Line parlays I'll go with

Aggressive
Boise State over Wyoming
Oregon State over Stanford
Miami (FL) over North Carolina
3.75/1 profit

Safe
Coastal Carolina over Troy
Georgia over MIzzou
Hawaii over UNLV
Florida over LSU
BYU over San Diego State
Appalachian State over Georgia Southern
Profit 1.35/1
