The original GO MICRO is in the books. A great time was had by all. All two if us that is. With a depleted roster, Woz and I had to multiply our fun quota in order to equal the fun of a normal GO JUMBO trip. Mission accomplished.
Before I get into the recap, just about everyone wanted to know what it was like at the SuperBook under the Covid regime. First, there were far less people which had it advantages. Checking in used to be a huge pain with long lines and not being able to get to your room until well after 3:00pm. This year we walked right up to the receptionist, checked in and got our room straight away. Woz and I got into our rooms around Noon with no hassle.
We were asked if wanted our rooms sprayed on a daily basis. We declined not realizing that the stopped maid service too. Oh well, we usually decline that anyway.
Every other seat in the SuperBook were removed for spacing purposes. There were plenty available on Thursday but having a conversation 6 feet apart with masks on was virtually impossible so we went back to our normal tables in the back and stayed there for the entire weekend.
The lines to make a wager as kickoff neared, seemed to stretch as long as in past years but with spacing protocols were actually much smaller and went faster.
They took your temperature before you entered the hotel and once in, you were required to wear a mask at all times. Most everyone did. They also restricted the elevators to four at a time. Most everyone followed this rule too.

We never saw BeDDy. She’s probably under some kind of Covid restriction. Not sure the old gal would survive Covid if she got it.
There were just a lot less people in the SuperBook. On Sunday, the chairs and tables were full but there wasn’t people piled into the back aisle way like in years past. It was better in most ways but also quieter and less raucous.
Overall, a better experience but one unlikely to be seen in the future.
On Friday, we scoped out the Circa. We had read a ton of articles and seen photos of the newest Sports Book out there. To be honest we were disappointed.
First, it was way too pricey. Other than a few seats in the front row, the seats were $200/day. No way am I starting out the day $200 in the hole – each day too, so $400 for the weekend. And the seats themselves were nothing to shout about. They were small and crammed together. The seats in the SuperBook are much better – and free!
Of course, you could opt for the $2,000 table for six. In reality, they fit about four and half hole members max. And they were in a booth configuration. If you went to make a bet or take a leak, two other guys would have to get up, making snarky comments no doubt.
As for the few free ones up front, they were so close to the TVs that you were looking up at a 60 degree angle. You would be having neck cramps by halftime of the first game.
All in all, not an option. The layout is poor and the cost is too much. You guys can take a look if you want but Woz and I are out.

When we were done at the Circa, we went to the D to see what their new Sports Book. The owners of the D built the Circa. The D Sports Book was better, mainly lots of high tables which was nice. But’s still pretty small and has that “thrown into a corner cause we needed one” feel to it.
After touring Old Vegas we walked back to the SuperBook and made some wagers on the Friday games. After going undefeated on Thursday we went winless on Friday. From years past I knew that if I had a good Thursday, for whatever reason Friday sucks, so we dialed back the betting. Smart move.
I made a three game parlay and every opponent received the kick and marched for a TD on the opening drive. Incredible. Still by dialing back the bets I was still ahead going into the weekend.
One thing we learned from Friday was, since we were going with a strategy of parlays this year, was to not have the same team on too many parlays. Our Friday parlay loser had Minnesota on it which was also on a Big Ten parlay for Saturday. Saturday hadn’t even started and we were had one for the Cup of Infamy.

Going into Saturday we were wondering how bad was the State game going to be. We were thinking that at least it was the first game of the day and after the loss get it out of the way and focus on the rest of the games. I bought a back up shirt to change into before the noon games started just in case.
Boy were we wrong! It was the best part of the weekend - beating scUM! Woz and I had our “He has trouble with the snap” masks on courtesy of Mike and was no doubt the reason for the win. Covid or not I will be wearing it every time we play them going forward!
Before the game started, various punters asked if were betting on the game. That’s been a hard no now for several years. Too many bad things have happened when we have bet on the Spartans. And we thought one was about to happen at the very end of the game.
When State had 4th and 2 and looking like they might punt, Woz turned to me and said “Wouldn’t it be ironic if there was a reverse - He has trouble with the snap?” Oh man, he had me worried with that one. But we decided to go to for it, Rocky quick snaps it and gets the 2 for a clinching first down. Victory for MSU!!
After the game was over, the same guys would come back and let us now that we missed getting 12/1 on the money line. It didn’t bother us in the least. The win made the weekend regardless what happened next.
And what happened next was a very profitable weekend. Bruce has said that it is not profitable unless it covers the cost of the weekend. It did that and then some.

Playing ML parlays looks like the way to go from now on. Woz and I had parlays for the 9:00, 12:00 and 3:00 games. Parlays by conference, underdog parlays, a parlay covering my best eight games (I wanted nine but apparently they cap you at eight) we even had a parlay using prime numbers on the teaser tickets. The results were fantastic. I went 5-1 on the big ticket parlays and small wins on the rest. Woz had similar results.
The prime number parlay didn’t work. We blame that on the Big Flippy claiming a portion of the winnings due to an asserted copyright.
Only a couple teams blew up multiple parlays. North Carolina and Kansas State did a couple in but we had learned our lesson from Minnesota the night before and did not have too many similar teams across several tickets. Those teams had shown they were a bit up and down in the past so we didn’t bet them heavily anyway. The key is not to bet good teams but to bet against bad teams and avoid teams that can clunk a game.
We did get the benefit of some comebacks. Clemson struggled early but won and Northwestern coming back from 17 down saved the Big Ten Parlay.

After a very successful Saturday, Woz and I decided to go lightly with the NFL for two reasons. One was the alternating great day lousy day trend and the other was betting against bad teams was hard to do. Three of the worst teams, Washington. Jacksonville and Houston had byes and two others Dallas and Philly played each other.
We learned another lesson on Sunday as well, don't play large number parlays. The teams are so evenly matched compared to college that getting a four team parlay is almost impossible. Of the 12 games played on Sunday, underdogs won six. We didn't win a single parlay though we did win a few straight ticket games.
By the end of the night, I wised up and took an first half under and full game under on the two bad teams, Giants and Eagle and got a couple wins.
Another interesting play is on Premier League soccer. I sent a picture of a two game parlay for his approval. He texted back "I didn't know that they had first half wagers on soccer". Neither did I. Nor did I realize I had made such a weird bet. Winning is hard enough let alone trying to get a half time lead on two evenly matched teams. What I should have done and will in the future is bet the draw in the first half. It would have paid off and even better than a win.

All in all a great time.
As Sunday wound down I texted Pete and Pat in order to establish the date for the 2021 (hopefully) GO JUMBO trip. After considering several dates and much debate a motion was proposed, seconded and approved that November 13 2021 will be the next GO JUMBO trip.
GO MICRO and GO JUMBO!
