So does 2020 count? Only half the teams are playing (so far) with the PAC 12 and Big 10 sitting this one out. Rumors continue to fester that they may rejoin halfway through but let’s set that aside for now.
Is this the year an AAC school makes the Final Four. The SEC and Clemson, I mean ACC champs, are in. With a limited field the reaming two go to either the SEC runner up, the Big 12 champ or the AAC champ, or an undefeated independent (Army, BYU?? They play next week!)
The upside is that cupcakes are expired….expired…..expired (we have aunts). The SEC is playing 10 games all internal. The ACC is playing 11 with one outside game. The Sax Man claims UGA was too scared to be the Jackets 11th. The Saxy Lady says they are a victim of SEC circumstances.
Notre Dame is going full ACC and is eligible for the ACC championship game. The traditional games against USC, Stanford and Navy are out, bring on Clemson! FWIW, USF is their 11th game.
If there were any lessons from the soft start of week 1, it’s some teams were able to get their teams ready for play despite dealing with Covid (Army) and some were too petrified to practice properly (Navy). Since you don’t really know how head coaches are running practices you might as well take underdogs.
Meanwhile in the pros, the are going full bore even while they figure out how to deal with BLM and other social issues. Not matter what they do, fans will be pissed. Sports used to be a way to get away from politics and social issues. Left and right would put their differences away, sit side by side and root for the home team. Is that gone? Or do things return to normal after the anthem(s) are played? I just hope the effects of 2020 are just a bad memory when we get to 2021.

One thing that has not changed is picking games against the spread! Nothing like rooting for a meaningless field goal late in the game to get the cover or praying for a pick six (make that a pick nine for the Big Flippy) to pull off a miracle back door cover. One week your rooting for Kentucky and the next your hoping the get destroyed by Auburn. Your loyalties have a one week expiration date!
With that in mind here are my absolute favorite teams in the world....until next week.
Georgia Tech +12.5 @ Florida State - The last time these two played it was one for the ages. It was 2015, FSU was for a last second winning FG to win its 35th game in 36 tries and a spot in the playoffs. Then this happened

Still one of Bruce and Mrs. Bruce's favorite games.
How things have changed. FSU is far removed from a national contender and restarts yet again with a new HC. Tech is in the second year of HC Geoff Collins, trying to improve on a 3-9 season. It will take awhile for Mike Norvell to put his stamp on the Noles. I'll take the Bees and the points for a quatloo
Kansas -7.0 vs Coastal Carolina - Revenge game here. Coastal Carolina stunned the Jayhawks 12-7 last year. KU running back Pooka Williams is fun to watch and will run all over a Chanticleer defense traveling 1,200 miles in the midst of a pandemic. I'll put a quatloo on this one.
UL Lafayette +11.5 @ Iowa State - ULL's head coach Billy Napier was on a lot of teams short list during the last round of the coaching carousel. The Ragin' Cajuns went 11-3 with losses to Mississippi State and App State twice. None of the losses were by more than 10 points. Iowa State is a good team but starts slow. Last year they barely got by Northern Iowa 29-26. A slow starting team practicing during this chaotic summer giving 11.5 to one of the better Group of Five teams? I'm taking ULL for a Mini Mega.
Tulane -8.0 @ South Alabama - USA is getting too much love after beating Southern Miss. It was so humiliating the USM HC Jay Hopson quit the next day. The Wave brings back 11 starters from a team that went to back to back bowl games for only the second time in school history. Glad I got in early on the spread, it's now 10.5. Tulane is 8-1 ATS as a favorite. I'm in for a quatloo.
Syracuse +22.5 @ North Carolina - UNC sure is getting a lot of hype for a team that went 7-6 last year. It's another version of a big bowl win (they beat Temple 55-13 in the Military Bowl) translating into - This is the year!! 22.5 is too much to give Dino and the Orange. Sure Syracuse can stink up the joint at times. Last years 63-20 home loss to Maryland started turning up the hot seat in the Finger Lakes. But watch for a late TD to get me a back door cover on a quatloo bet.
With lots of big spreads there's plenty of games to choose from for a Point Whore Parlay. This week I like
UTEP +43.0 @ Texas
Dook +21.0 @ Notre Dame
Wake Forest +34.0 vs Clemson
Going to go a little bigger with the NFL picks including the years first Mega Bets
Buffalo -6.5 vs NY Jets - Let's see, the Jets traded away their best secondary player in Jamal Adams while the Bills added Stefon Diggs. Oh and LeVeon is feuding with HC Adam Gase. That's worht a Mega bet right there.
Indianapolis -8.0 @ Jacksonville - Don't over think this one. Jacksonville is tanking for Trevor. That alone is worth a big bet. In my survivor pool I'm just going to pick against the Jags each week.
Phillip Rivers will have all day to torch what is left of the Jags secondary while Mustache Minshew will be under pressure all game long. This one will get ugly early. I'm in for a Mega Bet.
LA Rams +2.5 vs Dallas - Dallas is the most overrated team in the NFL. The OL was a train wreck last year and now it lost it's best player in tracis Frederick. Meanwhile the defense is missing Gerald McCoy, Robert Quinn and lost its best CB in Bryon Jones.
This one is an easy one. You have Mike McCarthy giving points to Sean McVay on the road? Put me down for a Mini Mega on the home team.
