2019 Week 8 Recap - Oktoberfest with Mike's Nuts

PictureWhen she saw it she had to have it
The gang went to the North Georgia Mountains to celebrate Oktoberfest. Great time! Plenty of beer, music and polkas.

One group did a musical fusion that I thought of. And if someone said they were going to try it I would have snorted out my Jameson''s. It could never be pulled off - the chicken dance set to Pink Floyd's Another Brick in the Wall. But - it worked! Another beer in the wall...

Mrs. H found a shirt she just had to have. She also bought a bag - great nuts. I came this close to getting a shirt for Mrs Mike. A missed opportunity.

Saturday was a solid day of football and some Secret Hitler. Getting Bruce to shoot Mrs Doofus was the highlight for me. She got me back though. We'll leave it at that.

Is it me or are they taking some of the fun out of football. I get the rules for safety though they seem to be going a little too far. But this is just stupid. Trickeration doesn't endanger anyone except maybe the opponents special teams coach.

PictureThe Sooner Schooner wasn't the only thing to take a spill in week 8

Happened to Kansas too. Penalty for hiding in the end zone. Lame rule.

At least the BBofG picks weren't lame for a change. In the final dress rehearsal the betting was damn fine. I went 3-0 on the Mega Bets with:

Florida -5.0 @ South Carolina - It took awhile but the Gators finally got on track as they QB Kyle threw 3 TDs in the 4th quarter to put the Cocks away 38-27 WIN

Oregon -2.5 @ Washington - Justin Herbert pulled my Mike's Nuts out of the fire. Trailing 31-21 he threw for 2 TDs in the 4th quarter to win 35-31 WIN

LA Rams -3.0 @ Atlanta - It was stealing candy from a baby. The Falcons are worse than Pat at a wine tasting. HC Dan Quinn is a dead coach walking. Final 37-10 WIN

Hope I didn't use up my good luck a week too early.

Here's some take aways from week 8

Oh no Wisconsin, you didn't. Just when things were setting up for a great Big Ten matchup on GO JUMBO weekend you left a badger turd in the punch bowl. Losing was bad enough - but to Illinois? Yuck.

PictureIt's the biggest win of the Geoff Collins so far
It was the biggest upset of the weekend but not the only. Mizzou must have been reading their twitter feeds. They lost to the Commodes 21-14.

Mrs Bruce said we didn't need to have a TV on the Tech game. She was pretty certain they would get blown out. She did follow on her phone though. By the 3rd quarter we switched to the game.  In OT the Jackets pulled the upset. Great game.

Bruce spent much of the afternoon worried for the Sheriff. Oregon State held off Cal 21-17 to win consecutive road games for the first time since 2013. Mrs Sheriff is not a happy bear.

Fear the Beavs, they covered five of their last six.

Boise State saw its New Year hopes dashed by 28-25 loss to BYU. The score was not as close as the score indicated. BYU was up 28-10 going into the 4th quarter.

SMU kept their perfect season alive with a 45-21 win over Temple.  Not only are the Mustangs 7-0 SU, they're 6-1 ATS . They're also gone over on all seven games.

PictureSo close
Memphis destroyed a pretty good Tulane team 47-17. The Tigers are 6-1 SU and 5-2 ATS.

Cincinnati is also 6-1 SU and 5-2 ATS after a 24-13 win over Tulsa. Five of their seven games have gone under.

Pitt has been going under the radar. With a 28-20 win over Syracuse they are 5-2 and have covered five of their last 6.

It was shaping up to be another road debacle by scUM. Trailing 21-0 they fought back 28-21. A fourth down pass to Ronnie Bell at the PSU 3, squirted through his hands.  I was hoping for a blow out but got a good game. Crap.

It wasn't supposed to be close. Texas was a 21 point chalk over Kansas but it turned into an old fashioned Wild West shootout. There were 50 points scored in the 4th quarter alone. The Longhorns hit a walk-off FG to win 50-48.

PictureBaylor ran away from Okie State
Baylor is 7-0 SU after downing a dangerous Oklahoma State. The Bears trailed 27-24 at the start of the 4th quarter but scored 21 unanswered to blow out the Pokes 45-27.

After Western Kentucky lost to Central Arkansas in week 1 it looked like another lost season for the Hilltoppers. Things are looking better now. On Saturday WKU beat UNC Charlotte 30-14 to improve to 4-0 SU and ATS in conference play.

La Tech lost to Texas in week 1 but have won six straight and covered four of the last five.

UAB is also red hot. They beat ODU 38-14 to improve to 5-1 ATS.

What happened to Toledo? Last week they lost to Bowling Green as 26.5 point favorites. This week they were rocked by Ball State 52-14. Looks like a failure to launch in the Glass Bowl.

PictureApp State is in the lead for a New Year's date
Akron fell to Buffalo 21-0 to fall to 0-7 SU and ATS. The Zippers are easily the worst team in Div 1A.

San Diego State beat the other Spartans 27-17. It was the Spaztecs fifth cover in six games. The under is now 6-1 in SDSU games.

LSU continues to roll. With an easy 26-13 win over Miss State the Tigers are 7-0 ATS and 5-2 ATS.

Georgia State is having a quietly good season. They just beat Army to improve to 5-2 SU and 4-1-2 ATS.

With Boise's loss, App State moved into the drivers seat for a New Years Date. The scUM beaters are 6-0 SU and 5-1 ATS.

Remember - this week is the week! GO JUMBO!
