USC +10.5 @ Washington State
Notre Dame -12.5 vs Virginia
Auburn -10.5 vs Miss State
Utah -5.5 vs Washington State
Kansas State +4.0 @ Okie State
Toledo +2.5 vs BYU
UNLV +9.0 @ Wyoming
Central Michigan +17.5 @ Western Michigan
Ohio State -17.5 @ Nebraska

Week 4 brought plenty of carnage as 8 teams lost in the Top 25. Part was due to Week 4’s marquee matchups with plenty of ranked teams squaring off. Not so much this week. The ranked teams should have an easier go as Week 5 is fairly light in heavyweight battles.
Five of the Top 25 are idle including #3 Georgia and #4 LSU. There are only two games featuring ranked teams playing each other.
Washington -10.5 vs Southern Cal – Another week, another USC QB. 2nd string QB Kedon Slovis was knocked out on the 2nd play of the game last week. 3rd string QB Matt Fink stepped in a carved up the vaunted Utah defense for 351 yards and 3 TDs in a 30-23 upset. Fink was so far down the depth chart he was considering transferring to Illinois. Trojan fans are glad he reconsidered.
After gaffing against Cal in its PAC 12 opener, Washington has been destroying everything in their path. QB Jacob Eason threw for 3 TDs against both Hawaii and BYU.
The Husky defense has film on Fink and will be prepared.
Is it as simple as USC lost to BYU in OT while Washington destroyed the Mormans own 45-19 last week? Why not? The Sheriff agrees. No quatloos for me though. USC is just too quirky.

Virginia +12.5 @ Notre Dame – Game Day may be in Lincoln, but this is the best game of the week. The Domers were impressive last week as they hung tough versus Georgia, driving to win it late. They still have an outside chance of making the CFB and this is likely the toughest game left for the Domers. USC is banged up, scUM sucks and Stanford is not far behind.
Domer fans like what they saw. They’ve been pounding the line driving it up to 12.5.
Bronco Mendenhall is quietly building a program that can challenge Clemson in the ACC. He has taken them to two straight bowls after missing out on the swag bags for 5 straight years. They were looking ahead last week to this game last week as they fell behind Old Dominion 17-0 before pulling out a 28-17 win.
The Cavs are doing it with their defense. It ranks 11th against the rush and 14th overall. It leads the ACC in tackles for loss and leads the nation in sacks.
This should be a low scoring slugfest. I’ll take the nearly 2 TDs for a Mini Mega.
Investors Note: Notre Dame is 7-14-1 ATS when favored from 10.5 to 14.0. UVA is 9-3 ATS against teams with a winning record and 6-2 ATS on the road.

Other games of note this weekend:
Auburn -10.5 vs Miss State – Auburn in a let down situation after beating Texas A&M. Miss State has started to find its offense after starting freshman quarterback Garrett Shrader. I’ll take the Bulldogs but no quatloos.
Washington State +5.5 @ Utah – Both teams are coming off losses. Wazzuo was an epic melt down to UCLA. Utah is banged up with QB Tyler Huntley and RB Zach Moss questionable. WSU has won four straight. Make it five. I’ll take the points for a quatloo.
Kansas State +4.0 @ Oklahoma State – Put your popcorn away. Highlight reels are not KSU’s game. They play tight football and grind out wins. Okie State will try to get some highlight reels out there, but won’t be able to. I’ll take the points for a quatloo.

I’ll lay some more Mini Megas on:
Toledo +2.5 vs BYU – The last time when I took the Rockets for a Mini Mega they were winding up their game well past midnight. State fans know what happens when you play when the bars are closing down. This time they have the clock as their ally. BYU will be playing at 10:00 am body time.
BYU currently ranks 93rd in the country in total defense and 101st in the nation in scoring defense, That’s going to be a problem playing Toledo which averages better than 35 points per game.
Investors Note – Both teams have trends in their favor. BYU is 9-1 ATS on the road. Toledo is 8-3 ATS in the Glass Bowl.

Wyoming -9.0 vs UNLV – These teams are pretty much the same. They both run the ball a lot. Wyoming is 40th in rushing offense, UNLV is 33rd. Both teams are in the bottom ten in passing offense too.
The difference? The rush defense. Wyoming is 14th is stopping the run. UNLV is 119th.
The Sheriff likes this game too Hope I don’t jinx him again.
Investors Note – Wyoming is on a 7-1 win streak ATS. 9-3-1 ATS when favored. UNLV is 1-4 ATS on the road.
I’ll go with two Mega Bets this week with:

Central Michigan +17.5 @ Western Michigan – CMU was a train wreck last year so the fired John Bonamego (who’s now screwing up the Lions special teams) and brought in a real HC, former Florida head honcho, Jim McElwain.
Results are much better. Forget about the beat down by Wisconsin. Bucky can do that – right Nick?
They bounced back demolishing Akron and playing Miami (FL) tough last week before losing 17-12.
Western was respectable last week in a 52-33 loss to Syracuse but lost star WR D’Wayne Eskridge.
I’ll take the 17.5 points in a rivalry game. Chips are on the upswing.
Investors Note – Chips are 4-1-1 ATS at Waldo. The road team is 7-0 ATS.

Ohio State -17.0 @ Nebraska – Remember when, before the season, everyone thought that Scott Frost’s second year at Nebraska would lead to a Big West championship. I mean, he took UCF to an undefeated season in his second year. Nebraska had won 4 of its last 6 games last year. It’s gonna happen!
Not so fast my friend. The Huskers loss to Colorado and struggle to put away Illinois has dialed back expectations. Nebraska can’t seem to keep the electric QB Adrian Martinez upright after losing LT Christian Gaylord during fall camp. He was sacked 6 times by the Buffs.
Ohio State’s DL is ferocious. They lead the Big Ten in sacks. Expect OSU DC Greg Schiano to release the Kraken on Martinez.
Nebraska’s secondary is about to get lit up like the Rockerfeller Christmas tree. Justin Fields is everything BuckNut fans were hoping for when he transferred in from Georgia. He has yet to throw a pick on the season and had 13 TDs passing so far.
JR RB J.K. Dobbins, is fifth in the nation rushing and will find plenty of daylight against a porous Husker defense.
The Buckeye bus will be warming up at half time and the starters will get some rest during the fourth quarter as OSU will easily cover the spread.
Investors Note – Nebraska is 0-6 ATS as a home dog. 4-12 ATS in Lincoln overall. Ohio State is 5-0 ATS against teams with a winning record.

The Sheriff is off back to back 1-2 weeks. He’s hoping to turn things around with:
Cal (-4.5) vs Arizona State - Chase Garbers is developing into a nice QB, and the Bears defense should be able to frustrate Arizona State’s freshman QB. The Bears will be 5-0 after beating the Sun Devils on Friday night. Could GAMEDAY be in Eugene next week when Cal/Oregon face off for first place in the PAC-12 North?
Wyoming (-9) vs UNLV - Always bet the Cowboys when they are playing at 7000+ ft (and avoid them when they are in the flatlands).
Washington (-10) vs USC - Wish the line was smaller but the Sheriff guarantees the Boys of Troy will lose in Seattle. This team is schizophrenic: under the lights in the Collie they look like a Top 10 team, but put them on the road in broad daylight and Clay Helton gets outcoached by Kalani Sitake. Chris Peterson has got his Huskies back on track after that loss to Cal. Condoms go down.
