After a fun Rivalry week (well except for Georgia Tech, their flag will remain in the Doofus Deck Corner of Shame) it’s time for an even more fun Championship Week.
Playoff spots are on the line, trophies being polished for the trophy case, banners waiting to be unfurled for the practice facilities and recruits are taking a final look at their suitors. Their lots to play for and the games should be fierce.
Here’s what to look for, for every game.
Cincinnati +9.0 @ Memphis – I can’t remember if there was ever two teams that played back to back in consecutive weeks. There have been incidences where teams have played in a bowl and then played in their openers, but back to back? Don’t think it has happened since the forward pass was legalized.
Memphis traveled to Cincinnati last week and thumped the BearCats 34-24.It was a fun game full of many momentum switches.

Memphis won it with speed, speed and more speed. Only seven teams average more yards per play then the Tigers. QB Brady White has 32 passing TDs with only 8 picks. RB Kenneth Gainwell has 1,382 yards rushing. He’s a threat to take it to the house every time he touches the ball.
Cincy QB Desmond Ritter didn’t play in that game. He’s a talent too, with 1,836 yards passing, another 432 rushing with 18 total TDs. Also contributing to the loss, Cincinnati also turned it over 3 times. Don’t expect that to happen again. The Bearcats are 8th in turnover margin.
If Memphis wins they are a virtual lock for the Cotton Bowl. If Cincinnati wins they will need to jump Boise State for the NY6 spot.
Both head coaches are considered likely to get promotions next year. The winner gets a further burnishing of their resume.
I’m taking Cincinnati and the points. They will rebound from a disappointing loss. Put me down fro a quatloo.

Clemson -28.5 vs Virginia (Charlotte, NC) – Will Clemson be motivated? Even if they lose, they are still likely in the CFP. If the Tigers win, they will have gone through the season without playing a game against a team that ended up in the Top 25. They will also have won the ACC for five straight years. Be that as it may, they are taking a steamroller to everything in their path.
Virginia is playing with house money. Win and they are in the Orange Bowl. Lose and they are in the Orange Bowl. And they beat Va Tech for the first time in fifteen year. It’s a special season for the Cavs.
Virginia is the seventh, and last, team to win the ACC Coastal with the Atlantic champ winning eight in a row. The Cavs were favored to win the Coastal but a mid season stall left them 3-2. With their backs to the wall they won three must win games to earn a trip to Charlotte.
Clemson is clearly the better team but can they cover with being behind 4 TDs when they get off the bus. Yup. Virginia’s offense relies on QB Bryce Perkins too much and the defense is not nearly as good since the loss of corner Bryce Hall and safety Brenton Nelson to injuries. Trevor Lawrence is going to go deep more often than an All Star home run contest.
Dabo is playing the disrespect card and now he gets a chance to play a team with a semblance of a heartbeat. He’s going to want to make a statement.
I’ll lay the points for a Mini Mega.

Ohio State -16.5 vs Wisconsin (Indianapolis, IN) – Another year another Big Ten Championship game with either OSU or Wisconsin. These teams have the ticket office on speed dial this game. 2015, when State beat Iowa was the only game that didn’t feature one of these two teams.
This one will feature a host of potential Heisman candidates. OSU’s JK Dobbins, Justin Fields and Chase Young, along with Wisconsin’s Jonathon Taylor hope to use the big stage to get an invite to NYC.
For Ohio State they are in the CFP win or lose. But Wisconsin has the Rose Bowl to play for. Win and they are off to Pasadena. Lose and there’s a chance they get leapfrogged by Penn State.
It may not be back to back like the American Championship game but it’s a repeat nonetheless. Back on the GO JUMBO weekend, Ohio State took no prisoners in a 38-7 win. The defense limited Taylor to a mere 52 yards and forced two turnovers in an easy win.
Nothing has changed since that game. The results should be similar. Wisconsin will keep ti close for awhile and then get blown out. I’ll take the Bucknuts for a Mega Bet.

Georgia +7.0 vs LSU (Atlanta, GA) – It’s a play in game for Georgia. Win and they are in, Lose and it’s off the Sugar Bowl. LSU is in even with a loss. But if the dominate they could jump ahead of Ohio State for the #1 seed,
Look around. You know what’s missing? Bama. The Tide have been in four of the last five of these games winning all of them. Good riddance.
It’s been quite a ride for LSU HC Ed Orgeron. Last year he was on the hot seat. This year he’s the toast of the town.
It’s been a great ride for Joe Burrow too. When the first Heisman odds came out, he was a long shot ar 200-1. 40 other players had better odds. Now he is one win away from clinching it.
This game is probably the hardest to handicap. The Dawgs have the best lines in the country. The OL is the best in the SEC at keeping defenses out of the backfield, and the DL is No. 2 in the nation against the run. Georgia relies on it's defense and run game to win games.
If you are waiting for a turnover to gain momentum, it could be a long wait. Jake Fromm doesn’t screw up. He threw three picks against South Carolina and that’s it. He hasn't throw any others.
But make no mistake, Georgia struggles to score. And they are missing some key parts. RB D’Andre Swift has a shoulder injury and WR George Pickens is out for the first half after his brawl in the Clean Old Fashioned Hate last week. If this gets into a scoring contest, Georgia can't keep up.
When in doubt take the points. I’ll take Georgia but no quatloos. Don’t want to get on the wrong side of either the Saxy Lady or Mrs. H

Florida Atlantic -8.0 vs UAB – Both coaches are on short lists for promotions and the winner gets his second CUSA championship ring.
FAU got off to a slow 0-2 start but have been fantastic since. They have won nine of ten with all nine wins by double digits.
UAB relies on its defense, it’s the best in the CUSA. But they have played a whole bunch of nothing. The Blazers played the easiest schedule in Div 1A.
I’ll take the Fighting Kiffens to covers for a Mini Mega.
Central Michigan -6.5 vs Miami (OH (Detroit, MI) – This time last year, Central was 1-11 and looking for a new HC. They went to Florida’s trash can and gave Jim McElwain a second chance. Great move. The Chips are 8-4 and the favorite to win the MAC.
No one seemed to want to win the MAC east but when the Redskins beat Buffalo they backed into the title game.
This game comes down to one question. Will Central hang onto the ball? They have 24 turnovers on the season. If they win the turnover battle they are 4-0. Miami (OH) has little offense and will need some turnovers to make a game of it.
They won’t get ‘em. CMU will be tight with the ball, jump out to an early lead and get the cover. I’ll put a quatloo on that prediction.

Hawaii +14.0 @ Boise State – Boise needs help from Cincinnati to make the Cotton Bowl and will be keeping an eye on the scoreboard. The games kick off 30 minutes apart. But you won’t be watching it. The SEC game is on at the same time.
And you will miss the Broncos hosting the championship game on the smurf turf for the third straight year.
It’s another rematch. Boise won easily in a shoot out back in mid October 59-37. Hawaii racked up over 400 yards of offense but 4 turnovers did them in.
Boise is having trouble picking a QB. Jaylon Henderson looks to have overtaken Hank Bachmier and Chase Cord.
The Rainbows are having no problems at QB. Cole Macdonald and the run and shoot is 6th in passing and 19th in scoring.
I’ll take Hawaii and the points for a quatloo.
Appalachian State -6.5 vs UL Lafayette – App State has a shot at the Cotton Bowl. If Cincinnati wins and Hawaii upsets Boise, the Mountaineers just might nab that NY6 spot.
Another game with two up and coming coaches. ULL’s Billy Napier and App State’s Eli Drinwitz are probably a year away from promotions.
ULL has one of the deepest backfields across the land. Three players have over 700 yards rushing. But App State leads the Fun Belt in offensive scoring.
It’s a rematch from week 5 match won by the Mountaineers 17-7. I’ll take them to cover for a Mini Mega and with both teams liking to ground and pound I'll put another Mini Mega on the under 56.0
Remember the 2020 GO JUMBO trip is Oct 24th at the Westgate SuperBook.
